Can You Play Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 On Xbox

Currently, there is no better way to experience the overwhelming joy when soaring through the sky than with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. The game has broken all expectations with how well it simulates the pilots job, and at times it may even feel surreal.

All the complexity of managing your own aircraft is present here, with all of the countless buttons and actions that you need to take care of. Being one of the most ambitious and demanding sim programs ever made, people are wondering if they can run it on a console too or just a PC. So, can you play Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 on Xbox?

Microsoft Flight Simulator Review: Verdict

In some ways, calling Microsoft Flight Simulator a “game” is doing it a disservice. There are no bosses to defeat, no coins to collect and nothing to win. Its more like an experience. The attention to detail is truly impressive, especially if you have a system that can take advantage of it all. If youve been cooped up in your apartment, its the perfect pandemic game to get out and see the world without ever leaving your home.

Flight Simulator on Xbox is a watershed moment for console gaming, but it isnt the best way of experiencing the simulator. If you have the PC hardware, then the Windows version will give you better visuals, a smoother frame rate, more controller options, and mods like FSAirlines, which lets you fly and manage your own airline.

Will The Xbox Version Of Flight Simulator Share Achievements Or Progress With The Pc Version

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 New Screenshot 2 : xboxone

Though there have been few specifics of what the Xbox version of Flight Simulator will feature, Microsoft has confirmed it will be an Xbox Play Anywhere title, the “initiative by Microsoft to combine platforms of gaming, letting Xbox gamers play on PC with any first-party Microsoft Studios published game that is digitally purchased and vice versa”.

This means purchasing it once on PC will grant you an Xbox One version at no cost.

Meanwhile, the Xbox One and PC versions will also share Achievement lists – there won’t be separate listings.

All this suggests the two versions are one and the same, and are likely to share progress between the two – but of course, without an announcement saying as such, there is no confirmation as yet.

Until then, the PC version supports the use of an Xbox controller – allowing you to get a taste of the console experience for those who prefer to play with that control scheme.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Coming To Xbox Series X

Microsoft Flight Simulator has a rich history on PC that spans nearly four decades, all the way back to 1982. For the first time, we wanted to give more aspiring pilots a chance to take flight by bringing this robust simulation to consoles. Today, were excited to share that Microsoft Flight Simulator will come to life on the Xbox Series X|S this summer. Simmers on Xbox Series X|S can expect the same level of depth as the PC version, allowing you to experience the most authentic and realistic flight simulator we have ever created.

From light planes to wide-body jets, youll test your piloting skills against the challenges of real-time weather including accurate wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, rain, and lighting all in a dynamic and living world. With the power of satellite data and cloud-based AI, youll travel the entire planet in amazing detail with over 37 thousand airports, 2 million cities, 1.5 billion buildings, real mountains, roads, trees, rivers, animals, traffic, and more.

Microsoft Flight Simulator will be opening the skies to millions of new pilots on Xbox Series X|S in Summer 2021, and will be available via Xbox Game Pass on launch day. For the latest information on Microsoft Flight Simulator, stay tuned to on Twitter.

Flight Simulator Whats Different On Xbox One

The obvious difference will be the quality of graphics. PCs allow for more depth in appearances, but the game is gorgeous anyway, so it wont be much of a problem if youre planning it for your console.

You might be stuck to semi-automatic mode of controlling your plane, because the Xbox controller have significantly less buttons then a computers keyboard. But even if you cant control every single button in the game, youll still have pretty realistic simulation of flying a plane.

Microsoft Flight Simulator On Xbox Cloud Officially Opens The Skies For All

For months it was said to be in the works, and now the time has come Microsoft Flight Simulator has opened its skies to all devices with the release of its Xbox Cloud-powered edition. With the formal release of Microsoft and Asobos tentpole title for the xCloud service, users of virtually any device now have access to the notoriously resource-hungry sim. For low-end PC users in particular, this certainly changes the situation drastically.

The Xbox Cloud Gaming service is powered by Xbox Series X hardware, giving users access to high-fidelity versions of hit titles, now including Microsoft Flight Simulator. With Microsofts server farms handling the processing, the heavy load of rendering a game is taken entirely away from the device of the end-user.

Microsoft Flight Simulator has been a benchmark game due to its significantly high system requirements. The release of the cloud edition means that just about anyone can now enjoy the sim without even dreaming of taking specs into account. In the official press release, Microsoft assures players theyre going to get an identical experience to the full-fat PC versions, which already share parity with each other from a visual and performance perspective. Additionally, all previous purchases made in the sim will carry over to the cloud edition.

How Will Every Platform Be Supported By Microsoft Flight Simulator

If the rest of this article didn’t make it clear, Microsoft Flight Simulator is coming to Xbox Series X|S consoles this summer. However, Microsoft Flight Simulator is already available on PC and constantly pushes the boundaries for visuals in video games. There was also talk in the past that Microsoft Flight Simulator would eventually head to Xbox One consoles. So what exactly is going on, and how does Microsoft Flight Simulator support these platforms? We have everything you need to know right here.

Is Microsoft Flight Simulator On Xbox Game Pass

Yes, the good news is that the console version of Microsoft Flight Simulator will be available on Xbox Game Pass, just like the PC version always has been. So if you’re a member of Microsoft’s gaming membership club, you should be able to download the game and play it at no extra cost. The world is your oyster, basically, and it won’t cost you any more than you’re already paying.

The Sky Is The Limit But So Is Your Data Plan

Microsoft Flight Simulator as part of the Xbox Cloud library does eliminate the need for dedicated hardware. However, players might still find their flights being grounded without meeting the services requirements.

First off, its important to note that Xbox Cloud Gaming is not a free service like GeForce Now. Rather, youll need to first have an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription not even the base tier will suffice. Secondly, youll need at least a 10Mb/s internet connection just for the service to function. The higher, the better.

If you meet all of these requirements, excellent. But there might be one last takeoff hazard: geo-locking. Depending on where you live, the Cloud service may not be available, so verify that you can access it before subscribing. Also, this may pose a challenge when you travel to another country where it isnt supported.

Considering that Microsoft Flight Simulator is a game that embodies the very nature of freedom, especially with the cloud edition, all of these hurdles are rather ironic. Nevertheless, given ideal conditions, this is poised to be a very viable option for those who lack the hardware power and either arent able or simply dont want to get a proper rig.

If you are looking at the cloud edition to make up for the inability to play the proper PC version of Microsoft Flight Simulator, there are some limitations you have to keep in mind.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Review: Visuals And Sound

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (Xbox Series X

Release 1.22.2.0 : The Australia update now lets you fly over the Outback in full detail.

To put it simply, the graphics are stunning. If anything, the best reason to play Microsoft Flight Simulator is simply to gaze in wonder at all the Earth has to offer, both natural and artificial. Passing over highways, you can see cars and trucks driving, with an astounding lack of gridlock perhaps the most unrealistic aspect of the game.

Because everything is generated from Microsofts extensive world-mapping database, its as close to looking out the window of a real plane as youre going to get. Outside of Google or Apple, its hard to imagine any other company being able to pull this off.

There are a few instances where the graphics could use some work, though. In the New York City area, the graphics under more than a few bridges were distorted, making it look like there was a curtain hanging from their lower decks.

Suffice it to say, invest in a good monitor to really bask in all that the game has to offer. Its also helpful because many important popup screens such as Air Traffic Control, your flight map, and navigation log can quickly take up a lot of real estate.

You can set the Simulator to any time of the day or night, and you can also incorporate real-time weather information, which adds in even more realism and challenge.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Review: Price And Availability

Microsoft Flight Simulator was released in the summer of 2020 for PCs, and in July 2021 for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

As of March 1, 2022, it’s also available on the Xbox One and mobile devices via Xbox Cloud gaming.

The game is available in three versions. The Standard Edition costs $59.99, and will let you fly 20 different planes. The Deluxe Edition includes 25 aircraft, and the Premium Deluxe Edition includes 35 aircraft.

Asobo released a Game of the Year Edition on November 18, 2021, which included five new aircraft , as well as eight new handcrafted airports, includingLeipzig/Halle Airport , Zurich Airport , and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar .

This edition, which also supports DirectX 12, is a free update for existing players on PC and Xbox Series X|S.

While all versions let you land and take off from 37,000 airports around the world, each edition has “handcrafted” airports with additional details. The Standard Edition has 30 such airports, the Deluxe, 35, and the Premium Deluxe, 40 airports.

The Standard Edition is also available as part of Xbox Game Pass for PC and the Xbox.

In the game itself, you can download additional updates, some of which are free, and others of which cost money. For example, you can install more detailed airports or more aircraft, from a WWI-era Bleriot XI to an F-15 Eagle. Most of these à la carte offerings range in price from a few bucks to as much as $50.

Is Xbox Play Anywhere Supported By Microsoft Flight Simulator On Xbox

I’d love to be able to confirm without a shadow of a doubt that Microsoft Flight Simulator is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, meaning players have to buy it only once to own it across Xbox and PC platforms. However, we’re only mostly sure that this is the case. Microsoft has previously committed to supporting Xbox Play Anywhere with all of their first-party published games, but they’re also notoriously terrible at communicating support for this specific feature.

A Microsoft Flight Simulator FAQ for PC preorders did confirm Xbox Play Anywhere support ages ago, but that FAQ has since been nuked from the internet and is no longer available. There’s also no mention of Xbox Play Anywhere support anywhere on the Microsoft Flight Simulator store page, including its generic base game landing page. Finally, Microsoft Flight Simulator is not listed among upcoming Xbox Play Anywhere games from the Xbox website.

Still, like mentioned above, Microsoft is usually terrible at confirming this information. It’s still very likely that Microsoft Flight Simulator is an Xbox Play Anywhere title since it was confirmed ages ago and both platforms share the same base game page in the Microsoft Store. If true, this means players who purchased Microsoft Flight Simulator from the Microsoft Store will own the game on Xbox day one, with cross-save and cross-play support.

Why Isnt Msfs 2020 Coming To Xbox One In 2021 Permalink

While initially announced as an Xbox One release, Microsoft quietly removed any references to the console during Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020s advertising. If you have tried the AAA title on a PC, you already know why.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is an aesthetical masterpiece-arguably, the best-looking game ever-but all of these graphics come at a cost. The game can be really taxing for even the most high-end rigs, especially the Graphics card. Prior to the launch of Nvidias state of art Ampere GPUs and AMDs 6000 series, there wasnt a GPU on the market that could top 60-fps on Ultra 4K settings.

The aging Xbox One hardware is unable to meet the games exalted requirements. The 8-core AMD Jaguar processor and a slow internal hard drive are severe shortcomings, rendering the console incapable of running the game. Although it packs an upgraded six teraflop GPU, the same shortcomings apply to the much-improved Xbox One X one, with the updates leaving the CPU untouched.

What Is Xbox Cloud Gaming Service Permalink

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 – XBOX

Successor to the xCloud, Xboxs cloud gaming service enables users to play hardware-intensive console games on their obsolete or less powerful devices. Users are connected to a cloud server, hosting Xbox titles, hence allowing them to play games without having to download them on their consoles or mobile devices. Any user with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription can avail the service.

Why Was Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020s Xbox One Release Delayed Permalink

MSFS had its initial release in August 2020 and made its way to Xbox Series X and S consoles a further 9 months later. The flight sim creates a real-time replica of the globe, presenting a daunting challenge even to the most sophisticated hardware, especially GPUs. During our review of the PC version of the AAA title, we found that even the best GPUs found it hard to hold up to the simulator in maxed-out settings. Packing an 8-core AMD Jaguar and a six teraflop GPU, Xbox One isnt just cut out for a game as taxing as Microsoft Flight Simulator.

If the users are able to soar the skies on Xbox One console today, the credit goes to Microsofts investments in cloud gaming. Xbox One is still incapable of running the title. Forget Xbox One, bringing the game to series S and X consoles was, in itself, nothing short of a technological marvel.

Is Microsoft Flight Simulator Coming To Xbox One

For now, Microsoft Flight Simulator is not coming to Xbox One consoles – if you want to play this game on an Xbox when it launches on consoles on 27th July 2021, you’ll need to have either an Xbox Series X or an Xbox Series S in order to run it.

If you’re willing to wait, though, there will eventually be a way to play Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox One, but this won’t be possible for a while. An official Xbox Wire blog post from Microsoft recently alluded to the fact that a cloud-based version of Microsoft Flight Simulator is intended to launch at some point, and that version will theoretically be compatible with Xbox One… but we don’t have a date yet for it.

Until that Cloud version is released, you’ll only be able to play Microsoft Flight Simulator on PC, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as we hear more on the Cloud front.
