Connect Your Xbox Controller To Pc With A Wired Connection
This is very simple, but you do need a physical cable connecting the controller to your PC. Here’s how you do it.
Plug one end of your USB-to-micro USB or USB-to-USB-C cable into the controller.
Plug the other end into your PC
That’s it! It will automatically configure under Windows 10 and work with virtually any game on your PC.
How To Connect An Xbox Controller To A Pc
Connecting your Xbox Series S/X or Xbox One gamepad to your Windows 10 PC is almost as easy as connecting it to your console. Here’s how.
The;Xbox Wireless Gamepad;might have Xbox in the name, but you aren’t limited to pairing it with just a console. The controller pairs to Windows 10, too, letting you use it wirelessly with any compatible PC game. Here’s what you need to do to start using your Xbox gamepad with your PC.
If Your Xbox One Controller Is Not Connecting
If you can’t get your Xbox One controller to connect to your console, you should check for a few common issues.
Do you have eight controllers already connected to your console? While you likely don’t use this many, the maximum amount of controllers an Xbox One supports is eight. After this point, you can’t connect any more controllers.
Hold the Xbox button on a controller and choose Turn controller off on the resulting menu to disconnect one or more of them. Then try connecting the new controller again.
Also, remember that you can only pair a controller with one Xbox One system at a time. If you go to a friend’s house and pair your controller with his Xbox, you’ll have to re-pair it with yours again. This also applies when you connect your Xbox One controller to a PC and then try to use it on your console again.

Your Tv Isnt Displaying The Best Resolution
Microsoft has confirmed that some users may have an issue with the Xbox One automatically detecting the proper display resolution.
This is actually an easy fix, but it requires a few steps:
- From the Xbox One dashboard, hit the Menu button to bring up the Settings. Select Display & Sound, then select TV Resolution and choose the proper setting.
- If you have a relatively new TV, make sure your set has the most recent firmware. Refer to your TV owners manual if you arent sure how to do this.
- If you are still having display issues, try a different HDMI cable. This may not help, but the next step is contacting Microsoft.

If you’re connecting the controller to a console, you hold the Pairing button on the system itself. If you’re connecting the controller to a Windows 10 PC, you need to go through some menus. Hold the Pairing button for three seconds until the Guide button flashes.
Right-click the Bluetooth icon in your system tray.

Common Reasons An Xbox One Controller Won’t Turn On
Most of the problems preventing an Xbox One controller from turning on are related to the batteries or battery contacts, the charge and play kit, firmware problems, or internal hardware faults. Some of these can be fixed at home, and others can’t.
Here are the most common problems that can keep an Xbox One controller from powering up:
- Batteries: The most common reason an Xbox One controller fails to turn on has to do with the batteries. If the batteries are worn out or in need of a charge, it won’t turn on. It also won’t turn on if the batteries are installed improperly.
- Battery contacts: The controller won’t turn on if the battery contacts are worn out or bent too much. It also won’t turn on if the batteries don’t make firm contact for any other reason.
- Charging cable problems: If you use a charge and play kit to charge the controller, the cable may be bad. These cables fail internally, so you can’t necessarily tell it’s bad only by looking at it.
- Firmware problems: A controller may fail to turn on again when a controller firmware update is interrupted.
- Internal faults: Sometimes, something is physically broken inside the controller that prevents it from turning on.
If the controller lights up but won’t connect, see What to Do When Your Xbox One Controller Won’t Connect for more in-depth troubleshooting information about that specific problem.

Cause : Bad Power Supply
If the power outlet is providing power but the console still does not turn on, the power supply itself may be the issue. Check the light on the power supply; if the light is solid white or orange, then the power supply is working properly. If there is no light, unplug the power supply and let it cool for 20 minutes, then try plugging it back in. If it still does not light up, replace the power supply.

How To Fix An Xbox One Controller That Won’t Turn On
Here are some troubleshooting tips and solutions for a range of Xbox One controller issues:
Check the batteries. Remove the battery compartment on the back of the controller. Remove each battery and verify it’s inserted in the correct direction. If it was installed incorrectly, put it back in the correct direction. If both batteries are installed correctly, install a pair of new batteries.
Don’t take batteries out of a different device. To be certain the problem isn’t the batteries, use a brand new pair right out of the package, or a pair of freshly charged ones.
Check the battery contacts. Instead of using springs like some electronic devices, the Xbox One controller uses metal tabs that bend in slightly when you install the batteries. These tabs can become permanently bent if too much force is applied, and can get stuck or weaken over time. Remove the battery cover and the batteries, and examine the contacts on the right side of the compartment. The contacts should extend at an angle. If either is bent in, use a small screwdriver or another prying tool to bend it back out carefully.
Don’t attempt to pry the contacts with the batteries installed. Don’t apply excessive force. If you’re uncomfortable with this, ask someone who has more experience with this type of work for help.
What If Your Xbox One Controller Is Still Not Working
If nothing else works, head to the Xbox device support page. Sign in with your Microsoft account, register your console if you haven’t yet, and you can proceed through the steps to replace your controller. If Microsoft won’t replace it, you’ll need to look for a deal on a new controller instead.
Hopefully, one of these tips cleared up your Xbox One controller problem. Whether your controller won’t connect, keeps flashing, or won’t turn on, one of these tips should get you back in the game.
And now that you have a working controller, you can get back to enjoying the best Xbox has to offer.
