If Your Xbox One Controller Keeps Disconnecting

What if your Xbox controller pairs but then keeps disconnecting? This can ruin a great gaming session and is extremely frustrating to deal with.
Do remember that it’s a normal battery-saving feature of the Xbox One controller to disconnect if you don’t use it for 15 minutes. This won’t happen when playing games, but can come into play if you primarily use your Xbox One as a media center.
You’ll need to move a stick or press a button every so often. Otherwise, you’ll have to reconnect it later by pressing the Xbox button.
However, if you’re having a problem with your Xbox controller disconnecting, it probably happens much more frequently than every 15 minutes. If that’s the case, you can try a few troubleshooting steps.
It’s important to confirm that your batteries are charged when you have this issue. Tap the Xbox button to go back to the Home menu, then look for the battery icon in the top-right corner. If they’re low, replace or charge them as necessary.
Frequent disconnects can also happen because of interference. The Xbox One controller has a wireless range of about 19-28 feet, according to Xbox Support. Try moving closer to your console if your controller won’t stay connected.
You should also remove obstructions between the controller and console, like laptops, metal shelving, and similar. If your Xbox is inside an entertainment center, try moving it outside the unit to get a better connection.

How To Connect An Xbox One Controller To Your Windows 10 Pc
– As gaming technology develops and gaming platforms expand to the point of being available on all manner of devices with services like Xbox Game Pass and Stadia , it’s important that you have a method to play those games that you’re comfortable with. For Xbox gamers, that’s the Xbox Wireless Controller.
If you prefer playing with a controller over a keyboard and mouse, either because you find it easier, or because your laptop’s keyboard doesn’t have enough key travel or feedback, you’ll want to continue using your Xbox controller on your PC too.
It’s worth noting your process depends on whether you have Bluetooth on your desktop or laptop Windows 10 machine, and whether or not you have the newer wireless controllers or the older model.
That’s an important distinction because the older wireless controller – with shiny plastic around the ‘X’ home button – doesn’t have Bluetooth, and can only pair to a dedicated receiver.
Fear not if you have this controller – or a laptop without Bluetooth – we’ll show you how to use your controller this way too. If you want to connect your Xbox controller to your smartphone, we show you how to do that in a separate guide.

Why Wont My Xbox Controller Work
Common Reasons an Xbox One Controller Wont Turn On. Most of the problems that can prevent an Xbox One controller from turning on are related to the batteries or battery contacts, the charge and play kit, firmware problems, and internal hardware faults. Some of these can be fixed at home, and others cant.
If You Have An Older Xbox One Wireless Controller

If you are one of the people without one of the Bluetooth equipped Xbox controllers, or you have a PC without Bluetooth, you’re going to need the Xbox wireless adapter. It’s a proprietary dongle Microsoft makes that pairs to the controller using a dedicated wireless connection.
squirrel_widget_238489
Once you have one of those adapters, you simply plug it in to a spare USB port on your Windows laptop or desktop, and then press and hold the pairing button on the side until the light starts blinking.
Now you switch on your Xbox controller by pressing the central home button, and then press and hold the pairing button on the top edge until that big ‘X’ starts flashing.
At this point the wireless adapter and your control pad should find each other automatically, and then after a few seconds they’ll connect and the lights will become constant and stop blinking on both devices.

Solution : Check The Batteries
The quicker solution to your flashing Xbox controller is checking the batteries.
When the batteries are low, the controllers wireless signal is weak and, therefore, cant sync to the console. Youd want to replace the battery or charge your controller.
You can check the state of the batteries at any time by tapping the Xbox button. It will carry you to the Home menu, where the battery icon sits at the top-right corner. If the counter displays the red color and the batteries are low, then consider changing them for a new or a charger pair.

Controller Keep Blinking After Changing Battery
I have 3 controllers. They all work like they should, no disconnect and no glitches. I use standard rechargeable AA batteries and have no problem with that either.
Hardware: Xbox Series X, 3 original series x controllers using AA batteries.
But I get problems when its time to change batteries. The control tells me that the batteries are dead and its time to change batteries. Only one controller were used at that time. I change the battery and it lights up. But it keeps blinking and are kind of unable to reconnect. This shouldn’t be a problem since i got 2 more controllers. I start one of them and it starts blinking too. I test the same on the last controller and now I got 3 controllers blinking and none of them are able to control the xbox. I turn the xbox off by pressing the power button on the console. The console stops but the controllers keep on blinking. I start the console up, but I can still not control the console using one of the blinking controllers.
Other things of interest, the controller that dies are connected to another xbox account than my own .
This happened to me every time the battery dies .
Removing the power cord after turning the console off seems to solve the problem, but this did not work this time around. I will keep it off with the power cord out of the console for a while and perhaps everything will get back to normal at some point?
Is this expected? Anyone else having this same issue?
If Your Xbox One Controller Won’t Turn On
If your Xbox controller is not turning on, don’t worry. This is another common problem, with similar solutions to the above.
When your Xbox One controller won’t turn on, first, make sure the batteries aren’t dead. If the batteries are low, the controller won’t turn on at all. Pop the back cover off and replace the two AA batteries, then try again.
You can also purchase the Xbox One Play & Charge Kit to gain rechargeable batteries.
