Solution : Check The Batteries
The quicker solution to your flashing Xbox controller is checking the batteries.
When the batteries are low, the controllers wireless signal is weak and, therefore, cant sync to the console. Youd want to replace the battery or charge your controller.
You can check the state of the batteries at any time by tapping the Xbox button. It will carry you to the Home menu, where the battery icon sits at the top-right corner. If the counter displays the red color and the batteries are low, then consider changing them for a new or a charger pair.

What To Do If Your Xbox One Controller Still Wont Sync
If the controller still doesn’t work after trying all of the possible fixes, then there may be a physical problem with either your console or your controller.
You can further narrow this down by trying to sync your controller to a different Xbox One. If it works just fine, then the problem is in your Xbox One console and not the controller. If it still doesn’t connect, then you have a broken controller and it might be time to buy a new one.
In either case, you may be able to use the controller by simply connecting it to the console via a USB cable. This is less convenient than using the controller wirelessly, but it’s less expensive than buying a new controller.

The Controller Was Disconnected During A Firmware Update
If your controller was disconnected during a firmware upgrade, it will not function until the firmware is recovered. To do this, the controller will need to be updated from scratch. Note: In this condition, the wireless on the controller is nonfunctional. This must be done over USB.
Tip: If you have problems getting the controller to turn on, removing the batteries for 15 minutes before recovery can resolve this issue.
Plug your controller into an Xbox One console or a PC. At this point, the method will vary. Note: at least one functional controller is required to use a console for controller firmware recovery.
To recover the controller on a console, follow these steps:
- Step 1: On the console, navigate to Devices and Accessories.
- Step 2: Find the Elite controller. It should say Update Required if it is the correct controller.
- Step 3: Recover the controller firmware.
PC recovery requires Windows 10 as a prerequisite – Windows 7/8.x DO NOT WORK. Newer versions of Windows 10 do not require a Microsoft Account for the download, but older versions usually do. Users on older versions of Windows 10 may need to convert one of the accounts on the computer to a Microsoft Account, or log into the Store without altering the account.
If you followed these steps correctly, your controller should be functional again.

If your Xbox One controller still won’t work, you may have a hardware or firmware problem. Before you reach for a USB cable, send your controller in for servicing, or throw it away, you should try to update the firmware. If the built-in firmware is corrupt or out of date you may experience connection issues.
The solution to this problem involves updating your controller:

If Your Xbox One Controller Is Blinking
If you press the Xbox button on your controller and it blinks or flashes, this usually indicates that your controller isn’t paired to a console. As mentioned above, this can happen when you pair the controller to another system. But it can also occur due to various glitches.
Follow our guide showing how to sync an Xbox One controller to your console to get yours connected again.
If your controller won’t pair using the buttons, try using a USB cable to pair it. Simply plug the cable into a USB port on your console and connect the other end to your controller, then hold the Xbox button on your controller for a few seconds.
If this fails to solve the problem, you should restart your console. Press and hold the power button on the front of your system for 10 seconds to fully power it off. Then press it again to turn it back on. After a power cycle of both your console and controller, you should be able to pair them without it flashing.
If it keeps blinking and turning off after this, your controller may have a hardware issue. Try another controller with your console and see if you have the same problem, or test your controller with a friend’s Xbox or another device like a PC.
Contact Xbox Support if you can’t get the controller to under any circumstance. In the meantime, be aware that you can press and hold the Xbox button on your controller for several seconds to turn it off. This can help conserve battery if it just keeps flashing during your troubleshooting.
