How To Use An Xbox One Controller With Your Android Device

How To Tell If Xbox One Controller Has Bluetooth

First, make sure that your Xbox One controller has Bluetooth capabilities.

A Xbox One controller with Bluetooth has plastic around the Xbox button that matches the rest of the controller’s color. A non-Bluetooth controller has differently-colored plastic. You’ll need one with Bluetooth to pair it with your Android device.

Next, let’s make sure that Bluetooth is on.

1. On your Android mobile device, open the Settings app. If you’re having trouble finding it, swipe up from the homescreen and browse the Apps menu until you find “Settings,” represented by an icon resembling a gear.

2. Tap “Connections.”

3. Make sure your Android device has Bluetooth enabled. If Bluetooth isn’t already turned on, tap the white slider next to “Bluetooth” so that it turns white and blue.

Now, we’ll need to get the controller ready.

4. Press and hold the Xbox button on your Xbox One controller to turn the controller on.

5. Locate the sync button on the Xbox One controller. The button is on the top of the controller, between the L1 and R1 buttons, and is recognizable by the three curved lines next to it.

6. Press and hold the sync button. Once the Xbox One controller’s light starts flashing, let go of the sync button.

Once both your phone and the controller are ready, we can connect them.

7. Open the Bluetooth app on your Android device. This can be done quickly by swiping down on the top edge of the screen to open your quick-access menu, then tapping and holding the Bluetooth button.

That said, Microsoft does include an additional wireless Bluetooth wireless signal in its controllers, though, including the refreshed ones coming with the Xbox Series X.

The new controllers have a share button baked in and include textured grips and a new directional pad. They’re also a slightly different size and retain all of the features the most recent-gen Xbox controllers have. They have 3.5mm for audio, a proprietary port for certain accessories like the QWERTY keyboards, and a AA battery door for power.

The Bluetooth signal on the controllers is an option for times when Xbox Wireless isn’t present, i.e., on compatible PCs and mobile devices. You can use the Bluetooth on an Xbox controller with your phone for Project xCloud, for example, or on your PC for various games. Why Doesn’t Xbox One Support Bluetooth

The Xbox One launched without Bluetooth support and half a decade later, it remains absent. It means Bluetooth controllers, headsets, keyboards, and mice aren’t compatible with the console. Microsoft has ruled out the common wireless standard for its Xbox One family, pushing its proprietary Xbox Wireless protocol instead. This in-house technology can be used by cable-free controllers and headsets on Xbox One, building an ecosystem of licensed peripherals.

If you’re an Xbox One owner, you’ve likely been using Xbox Wireless for years without even knowing it. The radio frequency module embedded in all Xbox One consoles taps into this protocol, boasting a higher-frequency connection over standard 2.4GHz Bluetooth. It primarily reduces latency, while packing support for wireless stereo audio, impulse triggers, and more on Xbox controllers. Microsoft’s Xbox Wireless is ultimately superior as the “premium” experience, though it lacks the ubiquity of Bluetooth.

A cynical mindset can also frame this as a lockdown of the Xbox accessories lineup. Microsoft has full control over the wireless Xbox gamepad range, with all wireless controllers designed internally. And while third-party headsets can use the Xbox Wireless chip, the barrier of obtaining Microsoft’s blessing remains. We’ve also seen the Xbox One welcome more accessories with formal mouse and keyboard support, though this is limited to wired or wireless adapters over USB.

    The Next Best Xbox Controller

How To Tell If Your Xbox One Controller Is Bluetooth. [XBOX 101]

The Xbox Elite Series 2 might be the best controller, but its price and features may be a little more than you bargained for. So, if we were to look past that premium controller, the Xbox Core Controller would be the next best. It comes with a familiar but remodeled design. Itll feel just right in your hands if you loved the original Xbox One controllers, but it has a bit more grip. Microsoft managed this by making the side grips and even the triggers and bumpers more textured.

The redesign has also reached the D-Pad, which now has more of the concave stylings of one of the Elite Series controllers alternate D-Pads. The Xbox Core Controller has also entered the modern age of connectivity. You wont have to deal with a weak and finicky micro USB cable again as the controller now uses a USB-C port. It also has a standard 3.5mm headset jack built in. Another huge perk of the Xbox Core Controller is its flexibility. You can use it with your Xbox One, a new Xbox Series X/S, and with a ton of other devices over Bluetooth or wired connections. Though it already comes in a handful of different colors, you can also get creative with the Xbox Design Lab controller customizer.
