Exclusive Ps5 Titles Are The Best Showcase For New Gaming Technology

PS5 vs Xbox Series X: Which Does What Best?

PlayStation 5 boasts a growing list of exclusive titles that aren’t available on Xbox or computers, like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal, and Demon’s Souls. Comparing the PS5 exclusive Spider-Man: Remastered to the PlayStation 4 version of the game perfectly demonstrates what’s possible with the newer console.

Spider-Man: Remastered utilizes ray tracing to spread live reflections across the landscapes of New York City, and the PS5’s extra processing power lets the game run at 60 frames per second, twice the frame rate of the PS4 version. Load times that took minutes in PS4’s Spider-Man now take just a few seconds on PS5, allowing developers to replace entire loading screens with a quick fade to black.

Other PS5 exclusives, like Ratchet & Clank and Returnal, employ similar features to eliminate load times and present ray-traced visuals at a smoothly animated 60 frames per second.

There’s Also A 50gb New Patch Free Dlc And A Free Trial Version

The long-awaited PS5 and Xbox Series X/S upgrades for Cyberpunk 2077 are being released today. The game will also get a free trial version, free DLC, and a huge, 50GB 1.5 patch for all platforms.

Announced during a CD Projekt Red stream about the new versions and 1.5 patch, we were shown a quest, alternating between PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S footage of the game. Where the Xbox version will be a patch upgrade, PS5 users will need to download an entirely new version of the game, and transfer any existing save data from the PS4 edition.

PS5 and Xbox Series X games will offer performance or ray-tracing modes, while Xbox Series S will only offer a single 30FPS, 1440p mode.

A breakdown of patch 1.5’s new features, and what will be included on what platform.

One of the more popular DLC additions to all versions of the game will be the ability to change your character’s basic appearance in the mirror of their home apartment, including new options for hair and make-up. You will also now be able to buy new cosmetic makeovers for the apartment itself and even four brand new properties across Night City. Those properties can also see your romantic partners in the game dropping in to stay the night.

Another piece of free DLC adds new weaponry to buy from Wilson’s gun store, added after you meet Takemura in the game’s story. The game devs also said there would be some “secrets” left to find that have been added to the game.

Storage: A Fast Ssd For Both Consoles

Storage is one of the most important things when choosing a console. Not only does it allow you to have enough space for your games, but also, during console repair, you do not lose all your games. Both consoles have therefore opted for the SSD.

+ Xbox Series X comes with a 1TB SSD and transfer speeds of 2.4GB/s and 4.8GB/s in RAW and uncompressed modes respectively.

+ In the case of the PS5, its SSD has a storage space of 825 GB. Although its capacity is slightly lower than that of the Xbox Series X, its transfer speed is higher. Its speeds are 5.5 GB/s and 9 GB/s respectively in RAW and compressed modes.

So games load faster on the PS5, which offers an excellent point for Sony.

Learn whether you should choose a PS5, Xbox Series X or Nintendo Switch for your gaming setup

UPDATE, 10/6/21: The Nintendo Switch OLED is here, and Tom’s Guide has had a chance to review it. Since it’s so similar to the base Switch, it doesn’t change our recommendations in this piece. But we’ve updated the language to reflect the new console’s availability.

Console gaming is hot right now, and that means its the perfect time to pick up a PS5, Xbox Series X or Nintendo Switch if you can find one, at any rate. But choosing one of the three systems may seem a little daunting. The PS5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch are three very different systems, with three very different game libraries and, potentially, three very different prices.

Toms Guide has already written a number of console comparisons, including our PS5 vs. Xbox Series X face-off, and our Nintendo Switch Lite vs. Nintendo Switch guide. However, in this comparison, we want to take a step back and provide an easy starting point for shoppers. We won’t get bogged down in technical breakdowns or spec comparisons. Instead, we want to convey as clearly as possible the strengths and weaknesses of each console, as well as which games you can expect to play on them.

If youre finally ready to take the plunge on a gaming console, read on to find out which one is right for you and which ones you might want to keep in mind for the future.

Specs Both Ridiculously Impressive

PS5 vs Xbox Series X

Both companies have very much outdone themselves in terms of how powerful these consoles are. Regardless of which one you end up picking, youll be fine for a couple of years in terms of performance and technical capabilities.

You can check out a more thorough look at how the consoles compare just below:

Xbox Series X

The consoles dont differ too much, mostly in terms of GPU and internal storage. However, Sony did recently upgrade the PS5s firmware with support for additional storage via the NVMe M.2 solid-state drives, which means that you can get some additional storage if you do need it. Just be warned the process can be a little fiddly and theres a limited number of compatible SSDs on the market. You can find out which SSDs work with the PS5 in the attached guide.

In terms of the GPU, Microsoft does win out by having more teraflops, but the difference is slight enough that most players likely wont notice, and its in no way a game-changer when comparing the two. Teraflops also arent the best metric of performance, theyre more of a metric for how potentially powerful it could be.

Budget Version: Ps5 Digital Edition Vs Xbox Series S

  • Plays all Xbox Series X games

  • Priced at $299 .

Sony and Microsoft will both offer pared-down versions of their consoles as budget-friendly options. The PS5 Digital Edition is expected to have the same basic hardware as the PS5, with the exclusion of a disc drive. This all-digital console is rumored to play PS5 games with the same visual quality as the regular PS5.

Microsoft went a different way with their Xbox Series S, which packs in weaker hardware than the Xbox Series X. It will still play Xbox Series X games, but at lower settings and resolutions. It will also forgo a disc drive to cut costs, making it a download-only console.

While both of these options are decent alternatives if you’re working on a budget, the lower price of the Xbox Series S, along with the option to pay for the console monthly along with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription, makes it the better option for budget-conscious gamers.

The Availability Of New Xbox Titles On Pc And Older Platforms Makes The Series X Feel Less Essential

On Xbox platforms, Microsoft has taken a more inclusive approach to games. New Xbox One exclusives like Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 are still compatible with earlier Xbox One consoles and Windows PCs.On the Xbox Series X, these games still play well, but the design sacrifices make them feel less advanced when compared to the PS5s best titles. On a capable PC, you can get even greater performance with certain games, making the Series X feel less necessary for a quality gaming experience.

Ps5 And Xbox Series X Boast Similar Performance

In head-to-head comparisons for newly released games, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X deliver similar performance for graphics and loading times.

In terms of hardware, the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 improve on previous consoles with new solid state drives and enhanced processors. In practice, that means new games need just a fraction of the loading times required on PS4 and Xbox One, and installing games takes significantly less time too.

The new graphics processors are capable of ray tracing, an advanced lighting feature first introduced for PC games. Ray tracing gives games on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles more realistic reflections and lighting based on the in-game environment, creating visuals that are too demanding for older machines.

The new consoles can also improve the overall resolution and frame rate of demanding games originally designed for Xbox One and PS4, like Cyberpunk 2077.

Ps5 Or Xbox: Which Is The Better Controller

Oof, man, really putting me on the spot, huh? As you can see from the above, there are benefits to both controllers. For versatility and battery life, you really cant beat the Xbox controller. Meanwhile, the PS5 controller packs in modern features that will make playing certain games a lot more engaging . For sheer audacity and ambition, it feels like the PS5s DualSense has the edge here, but if youre looking for a multi-platform workhorse, go with the Xbox controller.

The Xbox Series X will be released worldwide on Nov. 10, followed by the PlayStation 5 on Nov. 12. Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Which Next

The PS5 and Xbox Series X go head-to-head

Should you buy the PS5 vs Xbox Series X? If youre trying to decide which of the latest and greatest next-gen games consoles are for you, then youre in the right place.

Before we get into the nitty-gritty, lets talk about the big problem facing everyone looking for a new console right now: stock shortages.

Despite being on sale for a whole year, its still extremely difficult to find places that have either of these gaming systems in stock. Although a lucky few have managed to find one, demand continues to outstrip supply and stock replenishments last only a few minutes.

Stock issues aside, the key thing to know about the PS5 and Xbox Series X is there is no outright winner in this head-to-head. Both of these consoles are, in most ways, as good as each other when it comes to the best games that you can play as well as the top features that are built-in. Although that might make your choice confusing, its good news. The more Microsoft and Sony battle it out for the top spot, the better it is for consumers.

The question of which next-gen console you should buy comes down to you and your preferences. From exclusive games, including Demon’s Souls and Returnal on PS5, through to the enticing new quality of life features, like Quick Resume and FPS Boost on Xbox Series X, theres a lot to love about both of these new consoles.

The Ps5s Distinct Features Add To The Sense Of Immersion

Some of the PS5s console-specific features are also absent from the Xbox Series X. Sonys exclusives take advantage of the DualSense controller on the PS5, which features a built-in speaker and sensitive haptic feedback that Xbox doesnt have. For gamers who use headphones, PS5 boasts a patented spatial surround sound technology that provides a unique 3D audio experience. The Series X has a comparable audio option in the form of Dolby Atmos, but youll have to pay $15 to use it with compatible headphones. While these features dont make a significant difference in gameplay, they do provide a layer of realism and make playing the PS5 feel more distinct.Other console-exclusive capabilities include rapid resume, which saves the exact point where you stopped playing and allows you to switch between games without having to wait for lengthy initial loading screens. Quick resume, on the other hand, does not operate in every game and serves mostly to speed up navigation rather than to improve your gameplay experience.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Controllers

Both consoles come with natty new controllers, but there’s no denying that the PS5’s new DualSense is the more significant and, ultimately, better of the two.

While most are unlikely to see or even feel the difference, the new Xbox controller is a little smaller than its predecessor, which should make it easier for younger and smaller gamers.

The underside is more prominently textured, too, and that mottled effect has also found its way to the surfaces of the two trigger buttons these are matte rather than glossy, and curve to a less prominent peak. Overall, the new controller is a little easier to grip and more ergonomically advanced, which can only be good.

On the face of the controller is a new Share button, inspired by that of the PS4s DualShock 4. Tap the button to instantly save a screenshot, hold it down for a couple of seconds to capture the last 29 seconds of gameplay. The d-pad, meanwhile, has been tweaked to resemble that of the Elite Controller Series 2. This makes it more useful for games that require sweeping actions , without overly sacrificing the positivity of presses up, down, left or right.

The Series X controller is better than the already excellent controller before it, but not drastically so. We wouldnt recommend rushing out to replace your controllers, and you dont need to either: Xbox One controllers work just fine with the Series X.

New Xbox Games Being Available On Pc And Older Consoles Makes The Series X Feel Less Important

Microsoft has taken a more inclusive approach with games on Xbox platforms. New Xbox originals, like Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5, are still designed to work on older Xbox One consoles and Windows PCs.

These games still perform at high levels on the Xbox Series X, but there are compromises in design that make them feel less advanced when compared to PS5’s top offerings. You can also get even better performance with these titles on a powerful PC, which makes the Series X feel less essential for a premium gaming experience.

If your new-gen gaming dreams involve wearing a headset to truly immerse yourself in your chosen digital worlds, then youre going to want to choose a PS5. Microsoft has repeatedly written off any specific virtual reality peripherals for console but Sony has happily announced a follow up to the original PSVR headset. The PSVR does still work with the PS5 but the future of PSVR sounds very interesting and its great to see Sony moving forward with the medium with confidence.

A Sony blog post revealed that while the next PSVR wont be out in 2021 – boo, hiss etc. – it will have significantly improved resolution, field of view, and tracking. It will be wired with a single cord and Sony is teasing a new VR controller which will incorporate some of the key features found in the DualSense wireless controller.. Given that the PSVR is still reliant on Move Wands its exciting to know that a more haptic experience is coming and Sonys talk of great ergonomics hopefully means controllers akin to the intuitive Oculus Quest controllers.
