Prepare Your Accounts At All The Retailers
On all the devices you might use to try to purchase a next-gen console, make sure you’re signed on all the major retailer sites. It’s also wise to keep your credit card on file so you don’t have to mess with entering your details while the clock ticks down while you try to check out.
Speaking of retailers, each of the major retailers has its own quirks for dealing with Xbox Series X and S when it comes back into stock. Here’s what to expect from each one.
Why Is The Xbox Tough To Find
Essentially, Microsoft hasn’t been able to get the materials it needs to make enough Xbox consoles to meet demand. As with the PlayStation 5 and most PC video cards, there’s a chip shortage right now that is slowing supply. The pandemic affected production for a lot of chip manufacturers, and industry watchers currently don’t expect the issue to be entirely resolved for months to come.
As a result, Microsoft makes as many consoles as it can and distributes them among its retail partners. Each retailer releases its available consoles in whatever way it deems appropriate. Most of the time, this means announcing ahead of time when you’ll be able to buy the console online and then releasing it for anyone to buy.

How Can I Improve My Chances Of Getting An Xbox Series X
It can be a little chaotic, constantly refreshing the screen and hoping to see a checkout link. And as many can attest, it’s pretty painful to punch in your payment information only to see that the purchase can’t be completed because all the consoles are already gone. Here are some of our tips:
- Open multiple browsers: Got a laptop? A phone? Maybe a tablet? Use them all to try to make the purchase. Set yourself up ahead of time with multiple browsers open to the retail site of your choice and be ready to buy from all of them.
- Don’t give up: Many of these retailers have started releasing the consoles over the course of 30 minutes, to keep bots from buying them all and reselling them at a price increase. If you see everything is sold out after the first 5 minutes, keep refreshing because your chance probably isn’t gone yet.
- Have an account set-up and signed-in: The time it takes to enter your payment and shipping information can be the difference between getting your console and getting left in the dust. Avoid that delay by setting up an account on the websites you’ll be shopping on.
- Make sure you have a confirmation email: There have been many reports of a purchase getting “stuck” and even though the website said the sale was complete, no confirmation email arrived and then no Xbox arrived. Keep an eye out and make sure you actually have an Xbox Series X headed your way before celebrating.
Xbox Series X Restock Avoid The Scalpers
One of the reasons for Xbox Series X and Series S stock shortages is due to scalpers snapping up large amounts of next-gen consoles in one big sweep and then selling them for extortionate prices were taking thousands of dollars for a $499 games console.
VGC reported that a now infamous PS5 scalper group going by the name of CrepChiefNotify managed to snap up 1,000 Xbox Series X consoles as soon as they became available at U.K. retailer Very. But in a twist of fate, Very cancelled 1,000 Xbox Series X pre-orders, somewhat torpedoing the efforts of the scalpers.
As frustrating as it can be to find an Xbox Series X or Series S, we suggest you avoid buying a console from these scalpers. Paying massively over the odds for a console that doesn’t have a huge range of new Xbox Series X games isnt a shrewd move in our opinion. If you can hold out, Microsoft should have more Xbox Series X units to ship, as well as the promise of more exclusive games for the console.
The Xbox Series S Has The Same Games As The Series X
Aside from disc-based games, obviously, the Xbox Series S has access to all the same games as the Series X. Sure, you can’t play your old Xbox discs, but you can access digital games quickly and easily, either via your Game Pass subscription, or buying them from the Microsoft store.
The point being, if a new game comes out, then it will be available for both the Xbox Series S and the Xbox Series X. So, you don’t have to worry about missing out on Bethesda’s next game on the Xbox, you can buy it from the Microsoft store, download it to your Series S, and play it within minutes.

It’s been surprisingly easy to score an Xbox Series S pretty much everywhere, but the more capable Xbox Series X has been a lot more challenging to track down. Thursday’s restock from Walmart was the biggest this year by far, and it’s unlikely another one like it will be happening before next week. There’s always a chance of a surprise afternoon restock from GameStop or Best Buy, though each has been less frequent in the last two months. And if you were hoping for something to pop up on Saturday or Sunday, know that those are even less frequent than a weekday surprise restock.
If you were unable to get in on this restock and need a console now, your best bet is to buy through a service like StockX or eBay, so there’s a layer of buyer protection in case the transaction isn’t legitimate.
Here are our tips for scoring a console safely and without paying inflated prices.

Is The Xbox Series S Worth It
Costing just over half of the Xbox Series X, the Series S seems like a bargain. Microsoft positioned this console as an affordable entry point for upgrading and new Xbox owners, but that doesnt necessarily mean its the right choice for everyone.
The company had to cut a few corners to get the price down, so that means no optical drive and less raw power. The Series S targets HD gaming at 120fps and doesnt do native 4K output at all . That means it isnt technically much more powerful than the Xbox One X.
Even if you dont already have an Xbox One, the Series S looks much better. The all-digital approach might put off collectors, but when paired with an Xbox Game Pass subscription, youll instantly unlock hundreds of the best games from previous generations. As time goes on, it will fill up with next-gen titles, too.
The combination of an Xbox Series S with Xbox Game Pass is the best value you can get in gaming right now. That said, if the price isnt an issue, the Xbox Series X will outmatch it across the board.

Which Xbox Is The Best A Look At The Best Microsoft Console You Can Buy
Which Xbox is the cream of the crop?
With so many to choose from, you may have asked yourself: “which Xbox is the best?” While most of the same software can be played across the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and the Xbox One range, theres a clear difference when it comes to performance.
Answering which Xbox is the best comes down to three key factors. How well does the console perform on a game-to-game basis, especially when it comes to Xbox Series X/S enhanced titles? Does one console have any killer features the other models lack? And crucially, how do the specs of each model compare to its siblings?
If you are after the best Xbox on the market, then you should go for the most expensive model, the Xbox Series X. But you may find it difficult to find one on sale and its easier to find the cheaper Xbox Series S or Xbox One. Thanks to the ongoing global chip shortages, the more powerful consoles that use them are a lot harder to come by.
Depending on what you plan on using your Xbox for, you may not need to get the most expensive, hardest to find model. Read on to find out which Xbox is the best that you can buy today.
