The Best Tvs For Gaming On Xbox Series X
To get the most out of the Xbox series X, youll need a 4K television.
Many next-generation games allow you to choose between a performance mode and a graphics mode. The former downgrades the visuals slightly for smoother framerates, while the latter mode enables higher resolutions and more fancy effects at the expense of framerate.
If your TV only goes up to 1080p, you wont be getting the most out of your new Xbox series X. To help you upgrade your set without breaking the bank, weve pulled together a list of the best 4K TV deals for entertainment, movies and gaming.
Where To Buy An Xbox Series X
Saying youre buying a new Xbox Series X is one thing actually finding a system is another. They have been in high demand due to the excitement surrounding the next-generation consoles. As a result, you will have to actively look for one and will almost certainly have to spend more than the market price to get one. Regardless, if youre still wondering where to buy an Xbox Series X, this guide has a couple of ways you can get your hands on one.
The chances of you getting a new Xbox Series X from the Microsoft store are low. However, one way you may test your luck is by checking their list of partnered retailers. Retailers like Best Buy and Walmart are constantly adding various sellers who have Xbox Series X consoles in stock. Its typically a low stock and sells out fast so you will need to keep an eye out.
Youll most likely have better luck finding an Xbox Series X on the Facebook marketplace. There are constantly listings for the console being added and most likely some in your area. This may not be the preferred choice, since you do run the chance of not guaranteeing your console is fresh out of the box. Thats why its usually a good idea to have a friend along, and if you can boot up the console to make sure its working correctly.

How Can I Improve My Chances Of Getting An Xbox Series X
It can be a little chaotic, constantly refreshing the screen and hoping to see a checkout link. And as many can attest, it’s pretty painful to punch in your payment information only to see that the purchase can’t be completed because all the consoles are already gone. Here are some of our tips:
- Open multiple browsers: Got a laptop? A phone? Maybe a tablet? Use them all to try to make the purchase. Set yourself up ahead of time with multiple browsers open to the retail site of your choice and be ready to buy from all of them.
- Don’t give up: Many of these retailers have started releasing the consoles over the course of 30 minutes, to keep bots from buying them all and reselling them at a price increase. If you see everything is sold out after the first 5 minutes, keep refreshing because your chance probably isn’t gone yet.
- Have an account set-up and signed-in: The time it takes to enter your payment and shipping information can be the difference between getting your console and getting left in the dust. Avoid that delay by setting up an account on the websites you’ll be shopping on.
- Make sure you have a confirmation email: There have been many reports of a purchase getting “stuck” and even though the website said the sale was complete, no confirmation email arrived and then no Xbox arrived. Keep an eye out and make sure you actually have an Xbox Series X headed your way before celebrating.

- Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S restocks aren’t too common, but Walmart has been among the few retailers with multiple pre-announced order windows in the U.S. These opportunities present a fixed time where stock goes live, although often lasting just a few seconds. Xbox Series X Load Times
Game | |
---|---|
43 seconds | 1 min, 52 seconds |
Im used to the speedy load times from PC SSDs, but Im still impressed with the Series X load times. Games like Sea of Thieves and Destiny 2 load in less than half the time they do on the Xbox One X. Even older games like GTA V load a lot faster than before.
While the Xbox Series X comes equipped with 1TB of storage, you can only use 802GB of it. Thats actually slightly more than the 780GB of usable space on the Xbox One X, even with Microsoft reserving space for the OS and new Quick Resume feature that lets you swap between games in around 10 seconds or less.
Xbox Series X storage defaults.
Microsoft is also using a proprietary storage expansion slot on the Xbox Series X, and so far, only Seagate has been confirmed as a partner for the $219.99 1TB cards that slot into the rear of the console. The usable space on these cards is 920GB as, once again, space is reserved for Quick Resume.
Games that have been specifically updated for the Xbox Series X make use of Microsofts new Velocity Architecture to get the most performance out of the systems SSD, so you cant run them off USB storage. The vast majority of backward-compatible games, however, dont use Velocity Architecture, meaning they can be played directly off a USB drive unless they get a Series X update in the future.

Amazon gives its Prime members priority access to the PlayStation 5 restocks. This $139 yearly subscription comes with many perks, from free fast shipping and free Prime Video content to access to Prime Day deals. In addition, if you want to take advantage of the next restock, you’ll have better luck signing up for Prime — especially since Amazon still offers a free 30-day trial membership.
Walmart has also restricted PlayStation5 restocks to Walmart+ members. The service, which costs $98 per year or $12.94 per month, also offers free, same-day delivery from your local Walmart store , member prices on gas and money off on certain prescriptions.
Besides offering its members exclusive access to product launches and restocks, the Best Buy Totaltech comes with a few other perks that make it worth the price. Other benefits include free two-day shipping and two-year product protection for all purchases, plus early access to other tech drops, such as hard-to-find graphics cards.

Having Patience Is An Essential Skill

It’s unclear just how long it’s going to be until trying to find an Xbox Series X doesn’t feel like taking on another full-time job. Right now, it seems like this might be the state of things until 2022, but the console might become more available as the holiday season approaches. It’s really important to remember that getting a Series X is really hard and will take time, patience, and a whole lot of luck. If frustration starts to creep in, take a break for a while and then come back to the grind. It might feel impossible now but with enough time, it’ll happen. Use the tips above along with some determination and an Xbox Series X should be just within reach.

Xbox Series X Review: Hardware And Setup
The Xbox Series X along with its Wireless Controller.
As can be gleaned from the tech spec listed above, the Xbox Series X is a video game console powerhouse. Indeed, it’s the most powerful console on Earth on paper, bested only by very powerful gaming PCs.
When you turn the Xbox Series X on, this is the screen you are greeted with.
Packing 12 teraflops of processing power, which is delivered thanks to a combination of AMD’s latest Zen 2 and RDNA 2 architectures, and paired with a custom 1TB NVME SSD storage drive, the Series X absolutely smokes Xbox’s last flagship, the Xbox One X.
This is a console that can go the distance
Microsoft has absolutely nailed it with the Xbox Series X’s hardware in my opinion. This is a console that has enough power to really go the distance and power, in my mind, an entire generation of great gaming experiences.
Setup of the Xbox Series X takes place in the companion Xbox app on mobile or tablet.
To start tapping into the console’s power, though, it first needs setting up. Now, interestingly this is almost entirely handled not on the console itself, but through the companion Xbox app, which must be downloaded on a mobile device or tablet.
Through this app you can setup an Xbox account , link the device to the console for setup, and then be guided through a setup wizard.
You setup a variety of things including updates and privacy settings.
If you have multiple Xbox consoles in the house then you can designate which room they are in.
Agree To Continue: Xbox Series X And Series S
Every smart device now requires you to agree to a series of terms and conditions before you can use it contracts that no one actually reads. Its impossible for us to read and analyze every single one of these agreements. But we started counting exactly how many times you have to hit agree to use devices when we review them, since these are agreements most people dont read and definitely cant negotiate.
To start using an Xbox Series X or Series S:
- You need a Microsoft Account and have to agree to Microsofts terms of service.
- You must agree to send diagnostic data to Microsoft .
- You must agree to share usage data with game or app publishers.
You can also say yes or no to:
- Optional usage data sent to Microsoft
Thats three mandatory agreements and one optional one to use an Xbox Series X or Series S.
While the hardware and experience of gaming have changed on the Xbox Series X, the dashboard remains the same. Microsoft is keeping the same Xbox One dashboard that exists today, with a few visual changes the company has been working on in recent months.
It feels like Microsoft has been tweaking the Xbox One dashboard ever since the disastrous launch of the console back in 2013, and not a year goes by without an overhaul. I think its definitely in much better shape these days, but I still find the guide confusing to use at times.
