Looking to buy an Xbox Series X? This guide has the latest stock updates at a wide range of retailers.
Xbox Series X restocks have slowed considerably in recent weeks, and we’re now into the final countdown for those keen to pick up a console before the holidays. A new era of Xbox is here.
Buy A Series X Through Xbox Insider
US Xbox One owners can now apply to buy a Series X or Series S directly from Microsoft through the new Console Purchase Pilot, open to members of the Xbox Insider Program.
This isn’t an option in the UK yet, but we’re pretty hopeful that it will be before too long.
If you’re not already an Xbox Insider you can sign up by on either your Xbox One or a Windows 10 PC.
Conveniently, that’s also the app through which you can register for the Console Purchase Pilot, though not every applicant will be accepted.
Hopefully this pilot will be a success and Microsoft will roll the system out worldwide – but in the meantime, if you’re already an Xbox One owner it definitely makes sense to join Xbox Insider now to be ready if and when the reservation scheme expands.

How Can I Improve My Chances Of Getting An Xbox Series X
It can be a little chaotic, constantly refreshing the screen and hoping to see a checkout link. And as many can attest, it’s pretty painful to punch in your payment information only to see that the purchase can’t be completed because all the consoles are already gone. Here are some of our tips:
- Open multiple browsers: Got a laptop? A phone? Maybe a tablet? Use them all to try to make the purchase. Set yourself up ahead of time with multiple browsers open to the retail site of your choice and be ready to buy from all of them.
- Don’t give up: Many of these retailers have started releasing the consoles over the course of 30 minutes, to keep bots from buying them all and reselling them at a price increase. If you see everything is sold out after the first 5 minutes, keep refreshing because your chance probably isn’t gone yet.
- Have an account set-up and signed-in: The time it takes to enter your payment and shipping information can be the difference between getting your console and getting left in the dust. Avoid that delay by setting up an account on the websites you’ll be shopping on.
- Make sure you have a confirmation email: There have been many reports of a purchase getting “stuck” and even though the website said the sale was complete, no confirmation email arrived and then no Xbox arrived. Keep an eye out and make sure you actually have an Xbox Series X headed your way before celebrating.
Is It Safe To Buy An Xbox From An Unofficial Source
There are some places where you can safely buy an Xbox secondhand. If you’re shopping at eBay or StockX, there are protections in place to keep you from spending money and getting nothing.
- Stay away from Twitter links: If you see something on Twitter about an Xbox Series X restock happening somewhere, your best bet is to go straight to the retailer instead of clicking a link. In many cases, those Twitter links have turned out to be scams.
- Only buy at the retail price: If someone is offering you an Xbox Series X for more or less than $500 or an Xbox Series S for more or less than $300, you should probably stay away. There are many of these sites offering “deals” or “bundles” that are frequently not actually worth it.

Xbox Series X Restocks: Track On Twitter
If you want to gain an edge on Xbox Series X restocks, check out these for the latest updates. We especially recommend following Xbox Series X|S Stock Alerts and Wario64. The latter account tracks both Xbox restocks as well as general gaming sales.
While they won’t always give you a heads up, it’s also a good rule of thumb to follow retailers on Twitter, such as Best Buy and GameStop. Any edge you can get is crucial when trying to score an Xbox Series X restock.
There’s a good reason Microsoft’s new consoles are flying off shelves. In our Xbox Series X review, we gave the new system major props for its blistering performance, zippy load times and comprehensive backwards compatibility with every generation of Xbox. And as we noted in our Xbox Series S review, the cheaper next-gen Xbox still delivers many of the same great features for those with 1080p TVs.

Is Xbox One Dead
No. Its true that the Xbox one sold poorly compared to Sonys PlayStation 4, but in many ways the Xbox series X marks a shift in how Microsoft views the traditional console cycle. Rather than thinking in generations and hardware, the company is now focusing on providing ongoing access to games as a subscription service, similar to how Netflix or Spotify operates.
Game Pass is Microsofts on-demand games platform, giving players access to over 100 full games for a monthly fee. Microsoft is investing heavily in its subscription offering, snapping up large games publishers like Bethesda in a bid to bolster its library of titles and lure players away from Sonys rival PlayStation Now service.
Even the very latest games on Game Pass are designed to be compatible with previous consoles as well as next-generation ones, so that over time, owning the newest hardware becomes less important for the majority of players. Older generations of Xbox are expected to dodge the landfill for a while yet.

Why Is The Xbox Tough To Find
Essentially, Microsoft hasn’t been able to get the materials it needs to make enough Xbox consoles to meet demand. As with the PlayStation 5 and most PC video cards, there’s a chip shortage right now that is slowing supply. The pandemic affected production for a lot of chip manufacturers, and industry watchers currently don’t expect the issue to be entirely resolved for months to come.
As a result, Microsoft makes as many consoles as it can and distributes them among its retail partners. Each retailer releases its available consoles in whatever way it deems appropriate. Most of the time, this means announcing ahead of time when you’ll be able to buy the console online and then releasing it for anyone to buy.
Check out this full breakdown on the chip shortage by CNET’s Stephen Shankland for more details.
The Best Tvs For Gaming On Xbox Series X
To get the most out of the Xbox series X, youll need a 4K television. Many next-generation games allow you to choose between a performance mode and a graphics mode. The former downgrades the visuals slightly for smoother framerates, while the latter mode enables higher resolutions and more fancy effects at the expense of framerate.
If your TV only goes up to 1080p, you wont be getting the most out of your new Xbox series X. To help you upgrade your set without breaking the bank, weve pulled together a list of the best 4K TV deals for entertainment, movies and gaming.

How To Get An Xbox Series X Right Now
A few weeks ago we were able to snag an Xbox Series X with quick shipping via Xbox All Access so if you want a new console immediately, this is certainly a route to consider if you want the console ASAP.
If you dont want to mess around with retailers, you can look for stock on eBay. People are selling their Xbox Series X on eBay for a lot more than its normal price point. Thats obviously far from ideal, but its an option if youre getting tired of waiting.
Be careful to read the listing before you buy. Weve seen questionable listings in the year since the Xbox Series X release. eBay is usually pretty good at closing them down, but youll still want to exercise caution.
Xbox Series X Stocks Are Normalizing In Retailers And Online Shops
Stocks are now normalizing on retail stores and online shops that sell the Xbox Series X, Microsoft’s latest gaming console that it offers to the public for all their needs and gaming preference. The Xbox’s latest console first became available in 2020, and since then, it has been a struggle for fans and gamers to purchase the latest console.
However, retailers like Walmart, Target, and Newegg are already having new light on this matter, and it is with the availability of the console for all needs. No more waiting in line or clicking the console to buy immediately as it pops up, as the previous setup would immediately have it sold out in its first hour of availability.
