How To Install Xbox Pc Games In Any Folder

1. When you have completed the above steps, open the Xbox app.

2. Click on your profile picture in the top right corner of the interface. If it shows a generic icon, you may not have signed in to your account. Sign in before proceeding to the next step.

3. The drop-down menu, that appears when you click your display picture, lets you access the Xbox PC app Settings. Head to the page.

4. Switch to the General Tab on the sidebar.

5. You should see an option that is labeled “Use advanced installation and management features”. If you don’t see it, you may have either not signed in to the app or opted in to the Insider Preview Program.

6. Toggle the option, and a new setting will appear. It will point to C:\XboxGames as the new folder where games will go in to.

7. Click the Change Folder button next to the option, and select a different directory. This is the global folder for Xbox games, so you can’t choose a new one for each game.

8. Go to any game’s page and click the Install button. It should show your new folder as the destination.

This is a welcome move for users with limited storage space on their C: drive. The Xbox App Will Finally Let You Install Games Anywhere And Access Their Folders

In what’s undoubtedly going to be the most exciting news for PC Game Pass members on Windows, Microsoft is officially working on making the Xbox App more Steam-like – exactly what everyone has been asking for.

First reported by The Verge – and later confirmed by Microsoft – a new version of the Xbox App is being tested internally. This update will mirror the features players expect from Steam, and practically every other game launcher on PC.

When it releases, users will be able to install games freely on any drive/directory, away from WindowsApps’ protected folders. It will also be possible to move installs around without having to re-download the entire game, something that isn’t currently possible.

This unrestricted access opens the door for game modding, which is another thing the new update will enable. Modding Windows Store games has been non-existent for most of them , and its been one of several major sticking points for players.

Finally, the new Xbox App will offer options to repair and verify the integrity of downloads, another feature the current Windows Store often fails at.

Xbox Insiders can now test the new update, and a wider beta is expected to be available later.

The Xbox App Will Let You Install Pc Games On Any Folder You Want

Microsoft is reportedly changing the game installation experience for games on the Microsoft Store and the Xbox app for PC, allowing you to install them on any folder you choose. This is a big step in making the Microsoft Store a platform more similar to Steam when it comes to PC gaming. The information comes from The Verge, citing sources familiar with Microsofts plans, but the company has also seemingly corroborated the report.

If youve ever tried to look into the apps installed through the Microsoft Store, youre probably familiar with the infamous WindowsApps folder. This is where all Microsoft Store apps and UWP apps are installed, and its a highly restricted folder that requires messing with system settings if you want to make any modifications to it. For games, this means its also very hard to back up your installed games in a different folder or drive, for example.

With an upcoming update to the Xbox app for PC, which is reportedly being tested internally, Microsoft will allow users to install their games in any folder or drive they want. This is good news for a few reasons. First off, if you have a slow internet connection, you may be able to back up your games so you dont have to redownload them if you reset your PC or you run out of space on your internal storage. Even with a fast connection, some games can take up over 100GB, so even decent connections take a while to download files of that size.
