Xbox Series X: Power And Specs

The Xbox Series X full specs are as follows, confirming the majority of our own previous exclusives that suggested this is a genuinely beastly system. Ultimately, Microsoft is generalizing the power increase as “four times” higher than the Xbox One X, given that direct comparisons are difficult due to the sheer volume of custom tech going into this system.

Here are the Xbox Series X’s official specs, stacked up against its Xbox Series S baby brother.

There are some differences from the previous Xbox One generation in terms of ports. Microsoft is dropping the additional HDMI passthrough port, generally used to inject TV and other devices through the system. Microsoft has also removed the IR Blaster and the SPDIF optical audio port. TV controls will function over HDMI-CEC connections instead, but those of us with SPDIF audio systems or headsets may be out of luck, unless they get updates, like the Astro A50 and Astro MixAmp.

In terms of power, as of 2022, we’ve started to gradually see more games take full advantage of the system, although many titles are still being developed for past-gen consoles and may not be fully utilizing the next-gen capabilities to their fullest as a result. Microsoft’s promise of “four times” more powerful than the Xbox One X makes it seem incredibly compelling, however, and we should start to see more serious next-gen only titles appear in 2023 and beyond.

Should I Get An Xbox Series X If I Already Have A Good Pc Setup

Xbox Series X release date, specs, design and news for the new Xbox ...

It depends on what you want from a video game console.

If youre only considering an Xbox for Microsofts exclusive games, then maybe a PC will be fine.

Do you want to revisit your video game library from the original Xbox and the Xbox 360? Or do you want access to the console games on Xbox Game Pass? Or do you not mind spending a fair amount of money to simply have a second gaming system that lives under your TV and requires minimal maintenance? If so, then yeah, the Xbox Series X might be a good option.

Xbox Series X: Buy Now Or Wait

Have you managed to track down an Xbox Series X restock? If, not they seem to be lasting little longer now we’re more than a year after the console’s launch, so now it arguably the time to by Microsoft’s flagship console.

Before the end of 2021, I may have suggested you waited. But now with the likes ofHalo Infinite out and running very nicely on the Series X, I can thoroughly recommend it.

The Xbox Series X may not be cheap and it’s not perfect, but it’s got a much healthier game library and superb backward compatibility , which justifies its price.

Ubisoft’s Star Wars Game

Developer/Publisher: Massive Entertainment / Ubisoft / Lucasfilm GamesGame Pass: Unknown

Massive Entertainment is working on a brand new, open-world Ubisoft Star Wars game. Not much is known about the title yet, but expect it to take elements from Massive’s previous releases – The Division series. It could, therefore, be a photorealistic action-adventure with RPG elements involved, and we do know it is running on Massive’s own Snowdrop game engine. But apart from that, any more info is in the air, including official platforms. However, we’d be very surprised not to see it launch on Xbox Series X whenever it does get released.

Xbox Series X Review: Controller

Xbox Series X REVIEW: One Year Later

Ever since Microsoft came up with the Xbox 360 controller, Ive been a fan of the Xbox controllers, and the new Xbox Wireless Controller is a neat evolution of its predecessor. Though glance at the peripheral, and youd be hard-pressed to spot any major differences from the Xbox One controller.

But thats not a bad thing, as its a fantastic controller. Small improvements like textured triggers and an improved D-pad take a familiar controller and simply make it better.

The Xbox Wireless Controller has long been one of the most comfortable controllers Ive used, taking the Xbox 360 controller and building upon it. And the same is true with the new controller, though it does have a few extra features.

From a quick glance, the most notable change is the addition of a share button for sharing screenshots and recordings with a simple tap. Youll then notice that the D-pad is a hybrid one: a concave disk that should deliver more precision, particularly if you play traditional beat-em-ups. The finish on the new controller has a more matte look, with the black appearing smokier. The Xbox button is also now all-black.

The new controller fits my hands almost exactly like its predecessor. The triggers are slightly smaller and feel a little more tactile, as do the shoulder buttons. And the joysticks have a firmer, more satisfying click to them than those on the older controller.

Can I Easily Move My Xbox One Saves To The Xbox Series X

The easiest option, in my experience, is to upload your saves to the cloud. When I played backward-compatible games on the Series X, they loaded directly from the cloud saves without me having to think about transferring anything manually. According to Microsoft, Xbox 360 cloud saves will now be available for free to all Xbox users, not just Xbox Live Gold subscribers.

Why Was The Xbox Series X Out Of Stock

The Xbox Series X stock shortage has a few causes, all working together to make it fairly difficult to pick up a new console. Chip shortages across the tech world have slowed production on everything from consoles to mobile phones due to the pandemic.

Back in early 2020, chip makers pivoted from declining markets like the automotive industry to meet the incredible demand for consumer electronics. This involved new processes and workloads, as the semi-conductor market scrambled to switch its focus. As the world shut down, however, so did factories and ports. That’s when bad luck kicked in, as droughts, fires, and winter storms damaged chip plants and halted manufacture even further.

The events of the last 24 months have all swirled together to make it difficult for Microsoft to order enough chips to produce enough consoles and meet demand.

How Can I Improve My Chances Of Getting An Xbox Series X

It can be a little chaotic, constantly refreshing the screen and hoping to see a checkout link. And as many can attest, it’s pretty painful to punch in your payment information only to see that the purchase can’t be completed because all the consoles are already gone. Here are some of our tips:

  • Open multiple browsers: Got a laptop? A phone? Maybe a tablet? Use them all to try to make the purchase. Set yourself up ahead of time with multiple browsers open to the retail site of your choice and be ready to buy from all of them.
  • Don’t give up: Many of these retailers have started releasing the consoles over the course of 30 minutes, to keep bots from buying them all and reselling them at a price increase. If you see everything is sold out after the first 5 minutes, keep refreshing because your chance probably isn’t gone yet.
  • Have an account set-up and signed-in: The time it takes to enter your payment and shipping information can be the difference between getting your console and getting left in the dust. Avoid that delay by setting up an account on the websites you’ll be shopping on.
  • Make sure you have a confirmation email: There have been many reports of a purchase getting “stuck” and even though the website said the sale was complete, no confirmation email arrived and then no Xbox arrived. Keep an eye out and make sure you actually have an Xbox Series X headed your way before celebrating.

Xbox One Forwards Compatibility

The Xbox Series X releases this Thanksgiving

In January 2020, Matt Booty, head of Microsofts internal development teams at Xbox Game Studios, announced that Xbox Series X games will also be playable on the Xbox One for the first year. This allows for cross-generation multiplayer and gives Xbox One owners the ability to play some of the Xbox Series X’s line-up even if they don’t choose to upgrade their hardware. The downside to this choice is that developing games for both a brand new console and a seven year console could cause some difficulties for developers.

What Type Of Controller Will Come With The Xbox Series X

And then you have the controller one that looks suspiciously like an Xbox One pad. It turns out Microsoft has made some changes to the new Xbox Wireless Controller, and there’s a good chance you might have noticed one or two of the big ones already.

There is now a “Share” button located beneath the traditional guide and menu buttons, which Microsoft included so players could quickly share screenshots and videos. This feature is present on both the PlayStation 4 controller and on the Nintendo Switch, so Microsoft is actually catching up to the rest of the competition with this one.

The D-pad on the controller is a bit different, too. According to Microsoft, the company used the same D-pad from its Elite Series 2 controller on the new pad that comes with the Xbox Series X, so players will get a bit of the premium experience when they upgrade to the latest Xbox hardware.

New Games Old Hardware

Microsoft has said you wont have to buy new hardware to enjoy its upcoming first-party titles because many of them will also come to Xbox One. Heres how Xbox chief Phil Spencer described the companys approach back in July, where he said that every Xbox Game Studios game in the next couple of years will be playable on the Xbox One.

You wont be forced into the next generation. We want every Xbox player to play all the new games from Xbox Game Studios. Thats why Xbox Game Studios titles we release in the next couple of yearslike Halo Infinitewill be available and play great on Xbox Series X and Xbox One. We wont force you to upgrade to Xbox Series X at launch to play Xbox exclusives.

And if youre more of a PC gamer and dont own an Xbox One, then Microsoft also typically releases its major titles there as well, and it says it plans to continue this policy this year.

Microsoft has promised to bring Halo Infinite to PC and Xbox One as well as its new Xbox consoles.

There are some caveats you should be aware of. First is that these promises only cover Microsofts first-party titles, aka those published by Xbox Game Studios. Microsoft isnt making any promises about how other publishers like EA, Ubisoft, or Activision will handle their new games.

Xbox Series X Review: Performance

There are now more Xbox Series X optimized games than there were at launch, showcasing what the 12 teraflops of graphics power can do when its applied to patched games, both old and new.

One of the standout titles is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. While not a Xbox Series X exclusive it’s a game with impressive visuals and graphics setting, and is best played on new games console hardware. When it first launched on the Xbox Series X its performance left something to be desired as there were frame rate drops, some screen tearing and an overall performance profile that didn’t stand up to the PS5 version.

But after a major patch, the game runs a lot more smoothly on the Xbox Series X. It targets 60 frames per second, and in my experience mostly reaches that. But it uses a dynamic resolution, which can scale from 4K down to 1440p when there’s a lot of action on the screen. So its not delivering a true 100% native 4K experience.

Maybe its a testament to the quality of the upscaler in my 4K TV, but I can’t really tell when there was a resolution drop. And for a game that looks as good as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, its impressive that a $500 box is pumping out crisp visuals and a steady frame rate similar performance on a PC would require an investment of at least $1,000.

Gears 5 is one title that has been given the full Xbox Series X optimization treatment. That means it can run at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, or 120 fps if you have a compatible TV.

Xbox Series X Restock Avoid The Scalpers

[Xbox Series X|S] Retail Mode Retroarch Install Guide – NO DEV MODE!

One of the reasons for Xbox Series X and Series S stock shortages is due to scalpers snapping up large amounts of next-gen consoles in one big sweep and then selling them for extortionate prices were taking thousands of dollars for a $499 games console.

VGC reported that a now infamous PS5 scalper group going by the name of CrepChiefNotify managed to snap up 1,000 Xbox Series X consoles as soon as they became available at U.K. retailer Very. But in a twist of fate, Very cancelled 1,000 Xbox Series X pre-orders, somewhat torpedoing the efforts of the scalpers.

As frustrating as it can be to find an Xbox Series X or Series S, we suggest you avoid buying a console from these scalpers. Paying massively over the odds for a console that doesn’t have a huge range of new Xbox Series X games isnt a shrewd move in our opinion. If you can hold out, Microsoft should have more Xbox Series X units to ship, as well as the promise of more exclusive games for the console.
