Where To Buy Xbox Series X: Our Top Tips

How Bots Are Making it Hard to Buy a PS5 and Xbox Series X This Holiday Season

1. Find your retailersThe lists above offer up all the latest updates on which retailers are likely to give you the best chance to buy Xbox Series X over the next few days. Prioritize larger retailers if possible, as they’re the most likely to offer up more Xbox Series X stock and are also already set up for fast shipping as well.

2. Prepare your walletWe’re sure you’ve already prepared to spend some cash, but having your card details at the ready will save you valuable time when that first wave of stock hits. Better yet, if you’re comfortable saving your payment details or using PayPal you’re in for a much less stressful experience and can checkout quicker.

3. Sign inMany retailers will need an email address alongside your shipping information to allow you to checkout, and this is causing many shoppers looking to buy Xbox Series X to lose valuable seconds. Be sure to sign in to these retailers if you already have an account or create one if not. Of course, if you’re not comfortable signing in or creating an account, keep your email address and shipping information handy for a quick copy and paste when you’re against the clock.

Can I Move My Xbox One Games And Saves To An Xbox Series X Or Series S

If you have an Xbox Live account on an Xbox One that has been connected to the internet, your game saves already live online in the cloud, and they will be available while youre signed in on your Xbox Series X or Series S. You can also transfer games and saves from an Xbox One console to an Xbox Series X or Series S over your network or via a USB hard drive. And if you have an Xbox 360 but dont have an Xbox One, good news: Microsoft is making cloud saves for Xbox 360 owners free, separate from your Xbox Live subscription.

For backward-compatible games on the Series X and Series S, your saves from a previous-generation Xbox should work. That should also apply to games that support Smart Delivery. For games with an Xbox One version separate from the Xbox Series X and Series S versionsuch as NBA 2K21 or save compatibility falls on the developer to implement .

Xbox Series X Stock Shortage To Continue Into 2022

Bad news gamers, the huge Xbox Series X stock shortage isnt going to end any time soon. See what Phil Spencer said about the lack of next-gen consoles.

It probably wont be news to you that its almost impossible to purchase a next-gen console at the moment.

In fact, ever since Microsoft released the Xbox Series X last year, it has been extremely hard to get hold of. Customers have to rely on irregular stock drops to get the chance to buy a new Xbox.

Genshin Impact Still Refuses To Increase Anniversary Rewards Despite Fan Outcry

These unforgettable moments of exhilaration have not once been matched, or even neared, by the Xbox Series X. This isnt because Im in now my mid-30s, and coming off what Im sure we can agree to be the most exhausting year in modern historyits because theres no dramatic leap forward, and well likely never see it happen again.

As of 2020, the concept of console generations is dead. Even the boffins of Wikipedia are in limbo on how to label this years big releases, but theyre not the ninth generation of video game consolesthis redirects to a more generic page that neither classifies the Series X and PS5 as eighth or ninth gen merely current consoles.

The seeds of change were planted with the One X and PS4 Pro, when the gaming industry pivoted towards incremental refinements in line with new TV standards. But the Xbox Series Xand, perhaps, the PS5has set a new precedent: because of these finer improvements to an existing generation, landmark advances are more piecemeal.

At no point during the last two weekseven during and Watch Dogs: Legioncan I say Ive been genuinely astonished by a new game on the Series X. Sure, things are crisper and faster, but do they look and play that differently? No. Modern Warfare offered more groundbreaking visuals on the One X. Hell, for all its positives, Legion is locked at 30fps.

‘Black Ops: Cold War’ may be pretty, but it doesn’t demonstrate why the Series X is a big step … forward.

Cpu And Gpu And The Velocity Architecture In The Xbox Series X

Xbox Series X Restock Updates for Amazon, Newegg, Target ...

On a 360.45mm² die, the Xbox Series X boasts both an 8-core/16-thread CPU based on AMD’s Zen 2 architecture at 7nm, as well as a GPU baked with AMD’s RDNA2 silicon, with 52 compute units.

The whole chip has 15.3 billion transistors in total, with slightly less than half of the die going to the GPU. Transistor counts here have more than doubled compared to the Xbox One X . Microsoft has stated that the Xbox Series X and Series S will be the only consoles with full RDNA 2 capabilities. The DRAM is also on the SOC, with 16GB of GDDR6 memory.

The GPU allows for hardware ray tracing support, though we haven’t seen software in time for this review that truly makes use for it. Like traditional PC gaming, it’s still used with a mix of traditional rasterization.

In theory, the system on a chip supports 4K / 120 Hz output, though that will depend on the monitor you use and the game itself.

Elsewhere on the Xbox Series X’s split motherboard is the SSD storage, a part of what Microsoft calls the Velocity architecture, with 2.4GB/s of I/O throughput. The Xbox also has a custom texture data decompression algorithm. This is what allows for faster load speeds that finally get on the level PC gaming has been on for years, as well as allowing features like Quick Resume to suspend and resume multiple games at once.

Faster Performance Higher Frame Rates

The Xbox Series X and Series S have dramatically more powerful CPUs than previous-generation consoles didin the neighborhood of four times as powerful as their predecessor in raw speed and the number of cores and threads, to say nothing of seven years worth of efficiency and other improvements. This means faster user interfaces and much faster load times,1 as well as more sophisticated character and game behaviors, and just more stuff on screen at any given moment.

But the biggest improvements are most apparent in frame rates, which should hit 60 frames per second much more often this generation than last. The more frames per second, the more often the controller and the game are communicating. So a new Series X or Series S should feel like it responds faster and more reliably to your inputs. And when games cant maintain consistent frame rates, support for variable refresh rates should help keep those games from feeling unresponsive. Recent examples here include Diablo 2: Resurrected and Psychonauts 2, both of which offer 60 FPS modes on Series X and S unavailable on the Xbox One. The upcoming Battlefield 2042, is supposed to run at 60 FPS, but never manages it on Xbox One or even the PlayStation 4. On the Series X and S, performance in the recent beta was consistently smooth.

Xbox Series X Restock Avoid The Scalpers

One of the reasons for Xbox Series X and Series S stock shortages is due to scalpers snapping up large amounts of next-gen consoles in one big sweep and then selling them for extortionate prices were taking thousands of dollars for a $499 games console.

VGC reported that a now infamous PS5 scalper group going by the name of CrepChiefNotify managed to snap up 1,000 Xbox Series X consoles as soon as they became available at U.K. retailer Very. But in a twist of fate, Very cancelled 1,000 Xbox Series X pre-orders, somewhat torpedoing the efforts of the scalpers.

As frustrating as it can be to find an Xbox Series X or Series S, we suggest you avoid buying a console from these scalpers. Paying massively over the odds for a console that doesn’t have a huge range of new Xbox Series X games isnt a shrewd move in our opinion. If you can hold out, Microsoft should have more Xbox Series X units to ship, as well as the promise of more exclusive games for the console.

Xbox Series X Specs: What Do We Know About The Xbox Series X

With these specs, the Xbox Series X will be the most powerful console that Microsoft have ever produced and will go head-to-head with Sonys brand new PS5 for the Christmas 2020 market. It is worth noting that while the console will have 1TB of storage space, some of that will be taken up with the system already so expect to have around 802GB remaining for games and other downloads.

But, if you already have games stored on an external hard drive to play on your current Xbox console, they will play straight away on the Series X which is definitely handy!

Like the PS5, Microsoft will be adding an SSD capability for storage, but will also have a physical drive for games.

It is also understood that current Xbox One peripherals like the controllers will work on the new Series X.

People who have been lucky enough to get hold of a console, even if they are not the final versions, have been making some interesting findings as they have been playing them. One of the main things we are hearing is how quiet it is- which is sure to be a relief for those who dont like hearing the whirring of a console as they are working their way through a game.

It has also been said that it kicks out a surprising amount of heat when it is switched on. It does sound like that is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about, but its handy to know if you get yours and start to worry about how hot it is getting.

GameStop is one of the easiest places to score an Xbox Series X from, and thats because the gaming specialty retailer has a habit of putting its allocation of the console in pre-made bundles.

This practice results in resellers largely avoiding buying the console at GameStop, as they dont want to be stuck with the extras. So, if you dont mind paying a little bit extra and receiving an Xbox Series X with some additional items like a second controller or some digital credits, then GameStop might be your best bet.

Another reason that GameStop drops tend to last longer is that they are exclusively reserved for PowerUp Reward Pro members. The good news is that Pro membership only costs $15 annually, which is significantly cheaper than Walmart Plus or Best Buy Totaltech. Wed say its a worthwhile investment, as membership gives you twelve whole months of chances to purchase a console during a restock.

Xbox Game Pass And Xbox Live

It’s rare for a console to launch with a killer app that’s not a single game. No, Microsoft’s has over 100. Xbox Game Pass is a subscription service that costs $9.99 per month for just the console, or $14.99 per month for Game Pass Ultimate, which also serves the PC and includes xCloud streaming to Android phones.

Games from Xbox Game Studio launch day and date with retail copies, so expect to see a bunch of first-party titles. You’ll also get access to EA Play games.

Game Pass is the future of Xbox. You may not buy the Series S or Series X. But it also works on PC. This subscription is what Microsoft wants you to subscribe to, more so than buying the hardware. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate comes with Xbox Live Gold, which lets you participate in online multiplayer and get you some deals. This is $9.99 per month or $24.99 per 3 months, so if you’re online gaming, Game Pass Ultimate is the better deal.

When Will The Xbox Series X And Series S Be Easy To Find

The Xbox Series X and Series S launched on November 10, 2020, and have been in short supply ever since. This supply shortage, which also affects Sonys PlayStation 5, PC graphics cards and other components, as well as microprocessors used in vehicle production and other electronics-based devices, is widespread, related to Covid-19 and other production problems, and is likely to persist throughout 2021. The Xbox Series S has recently become easier to find, though its often out of stock. We expect it will be difficult to find an Xbox Series X until some time in 2022.

Xbox Series X White Version Release Date

The Xbox Series X first launched on 10 November 2020 with no white Series X in sight, unless you count the white Xbox Series S which also released on the same day.

Given that even half a year later, the Series X remains low in stock and is sold out almost everywhere, wed expect that any plans for a console variant have been put on hold as Microsoft instead focuses on just releasing more consoles.

At the very earliest, Microsoft could release a white Series X in late-2021, but in reality, we could be waiting a lot longer as Microsoft continues to grapple with the logistics and production of its next-gen console in a global pandemic.

Can You Buy Xbox Series X In Store

Where to buy the Xbox Series X and S: Restocks Walmart ...

In the US, in-store stock varies by region, but we are seeing some success with Target. Be sure to check in-store stock levels early in the morning and head down straight away if you spot consoles available. Stores are allocating what little stock they have on a first come first served basis, but it is possible to buy the new Xbox Series X in person.

If you’re in the UK, things are a little different. Obviously the current lockdown has scuppered many plans to buy Xbox Series X in store so you’re at the mercy of online retailers for now.

Heat Power And Noise On The Xbox Series X

It’s quite difficult to run something like a traditional benchmark on a console, but three metrics give you a pretty good idea of how powerful a system is: heat, power and noise.

This is the first time we’ve taken these numbers for consoles, so we don’t have competitors to compare to yet. But when we do, we’ll update this review with the comparison.

During a race in the version of Forza Horizon 4 optimized for the Series X, we saw a peak of 169.2 watts. In Gears 5, another optimized game, it peaked at 192 watts, though was largely in the high 180’s.

In a backwards compatible game, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, the system pulled a peak of 148.1 watts. Those are all lower numbers than what we saw with PS5 launch titles. pulled a peak of 225.5 watts in both fidelity mode and performance mode . Astro’s Playroom peaked at 224.2 watts. At the time of testing, we didn’t have access to any of the same games on the two platforms, but these numbers suggest that the Xbox Series X will be the cheaper system to run.

We also counted cumulative power use measured in watt hours, though those are adjusted to the slightly different lengths of the samples. Run long enough, Gears 5 would clearly cause the system to use the most power.

When the Xbox Series X is at idle, it typically pulls around 41.3 watts, while the PS5 is around 49.6 watts . With the system asleep, it runs around 11.7 watts, which is more than the PS5 falling between 3 – 4 watts in rest mode.

Is Xbox Series X Worth Buying Over Series S

The Xbox Series X is worth buying over the Series S if you want 4K gaming. While there are other perks to the former, such as its 4K UHD Blu-Ray drive for physical media, the main selling point is its ability to output at a native 4K resolution, compared to the Series Ss max of 1440p. 4K TV adoption is increasing, meaning that even if you arent currently rocking a 4K-ready setup, theres a likelihood that you eventually will be as such, Microsofts top-end console is ideal for future-proofing.

However, if you arent concerned with any of that and you just want to enjoy the Xboxs library of games and, crucially, Game Pass at a low price point, then the Series S is undoubtedly your best option. The only true differentiator here is how comfortable you will be in owning a console that will continue to be increasingly outperformed by its counterpart as this generation continues on.

Ps5 And Xbox Series X Shortages Will Continue Through 2023 Most Likely

PS5, Xbox Series X

Sony/MS

We are not even close to arriving at a point where new generation consoles like PS5 and Xbox Series X and S are going to be widely available, it seems.

While its very clear that this holiday is out the window, and these consoles will remain incredibly hard to find due to limited stock and instant sellouts , that is not changing any time soon thanks to a global component shortage that is not improving.

Toshiba has told Bloomberg that the supply of chips will remain very tight until at least September next year with “some customers not being fully served until 2023.

While many different industries use the chips and components that are in short supply, there is special acknowledgement of the gaming industry as one of the largest consumers:

“We consider which customer faces the most severe situation, such as the risk of the whole production line halting or the business getting obliterated without the supply of chips,” Toshiba director Takeshi Kamebuchi said. “Game console makers are among the customers making the strongest demands and Im sincerely sorry for their frustration as none of them have a 100% satisfaction.”

There really is not all that much to be done about this, and consumers will simply have to be patient. Some have theorized that Sony changing the PS5s heatsink in its newest model may open the console up for wider availability using different materials, albeit that doesnt solve the chip problem.
