Its been one of the most popular titles available on PC for awhile now, and console players will finally be able to see what all the fuss is about.
Everything You Need To Know About Rust’s Servers
With the sad news that a large databank fire caused Rust server outage in Europe earlier this month, there was a lot in the news about Rust’s servers and how upset some players were that their saves had been lost.
Here’s the thing: Rust’s servers are reset regularly. On PC, they often reset weekly or monthly, it really depends on which server you’re playing on. Public Rust servers are reset weekly, usually on a Thursday. This is to make way for upgrades to the game, but also to keep everything running smoothly. That means the console servers will be reset weekly. Now, don’t panic. There is actually a good reason for this. Although it might feel like your progress is being wiped every week, it’s actually a reset system designed to make sure no one becomes too powerful and ruins everyone else’s fun.
Rust Console Edition Coming To Ps4 And Xbox One This Spring
Publisher Double Eleven and developer Facepunch Studios have confirmed that Rust Console Edition will be coming to both PlayStation and Xbox consoles this spring, following a closed beta test.
Though Rust is getting on in years it first launched in Early Access for PC via Steam in December 2013 the demand for the game is still pretty huge: in January, the game managed to smash Twitch and Steam peak users records thanks to a renewed popularity from the likes of Shroud, XQc, and Myth playing the game on the Offline TV server.
After being teased and hinted at for some time, Rust Console Edition is now finally coming, though. It’s due to land in ‘Spring 2021’ which typically means by end of April, latest . There’s currently a closed beta test in progress for the game you can sign up here and read everything you need to know about the incoming test in an FAQ from the studio.
The game, if you’re unfamiliar, is a pretty hardcore survival experience: players eager to survive will need to conquer thirst and hunger, battle the elements, create clothing and stay safe against hostile forces including other players, scientists, bears, wolves or even succumb to fire, drowning or radiation poisoning. Yeah, it’s intense.
“Since Rusts initial launch into Steam Early Access in 2013, millions of players have populated its world and taken part in the ultimate social experiment, making it one of the most played games on Steam,” says a press release from the developer.

Can You Play Without Random People
The world of Rust Console Edition is brutal and unforgiving, but hosting a private server for you and your friends will let you play the game without worrying about raiders or other players. Custom Rust servers are very popular in the PC community, and Console Edition players get access to their own dedicated servers too. While you cant go too far with the customization on private servers, you can change things like the gathering multiplier and monuments on the map. Heres how to host a private server in Rust Console Edition.
Rust Console Version Release Times For Ps4/xbox One

The console release of Rust comes in three different editions: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate. The pre-ordering phase for these editions ended on May 14, and players who purchased either the Deluxe or Ultimate editions get “welcome packs” with different extra items for their characters like skins and Rust Coins. The Deluxe and Ultimate editions also grant players early access to the game before those who have the Standard Edition. The early access period began yesterday for PlayStation players followed by Xbox players at 12:00 a.m. UTC this morning.
The early access period will continue until May 21, but Standard Edition owners will be able to jump into the action just a little bit earlier. According to Microsoft’s website, players downloading Rust on Xbox will be able to do so at 7:00 p.m. EST on May 20, a few hours earlier than the listed release date on May 21. For PlayStation players, the PlayStation store says gamers will be able to download the game on May 20 as well, although it does not specify a time. Considering the PlayStation and Xbox release times for the earlier editions were around an hour apart, it’s likely they will be close together for the Standard Edition too.
Rust is available now on PC and macOS and is currently in early access for certain PS4 and Xbox One console editions. It releases in full on May 21.

A Brief History Of Rust
Developed by the minds behind Garrys Mod, Rust began life as an eerily similar game to DayZ when the survival genre boom was really kicking off. Zombies were part of early plans, but were scrapped.
Rust released into Early Access on Steam on 11 December, 2013 and would stay there until 2018 when it was finally fully released. Rust was a big commercial success from the off, easily eclipsing the revenue of Garrys Mod within no time at all. Early reception was mixed, though reviewers and players noted that it had potential.
The game went through many different ideas and iterations in Early Access, including changing the blueprints system for something closer to an XP system, though this was not received well by the community and reverted at full launch.
Since its full release, Facepunch have released a regular stream of updates for Rust, some of which include ride-able horses, air travel, scuba diving, and AI-controlled areas where players could trade in peace.
In 2020, Rust is regularly a feature of Steams most played and is raking in the cash for Facepunch.

Pre-order Rust on PlayStation and Xbox right now. Those who pre-order the Deluxe Edition of the game will gain access to Rust on May 18, 3 days earlier than the official release date for the Standard Edition.

What The Xbox One Release Date Is For Rust
After four years, Rust finally left Steams early access program last week, rewarding those players who helped during the development process with Frog Boots and offering a more polished experience than weve previously seen. Though Rust is far from being 100% completed, some fans may be wondering if theres any word on an Xbox One release date now that the PC version is officially out of its early access phase.
Currently, an Xbox One release date hasnt really been nailed down. Over on the games official site, console versions of Rust are listed in the roadmaps Q3 2018+ column, meaning they could come any time from about September onwards.
Even then, the wording for the console versions on the roadmap doesnt sound like an Xbox One release date is a real concern right now. At some point, when the game makes sense and has very little confusing elements and performance issues, deploy console versions.
As such, it seems that the console versions are very much a case of theyll arrive once the PC version is all sorted. Once we get word of any update regarding an Xbox One release date, well be sure to update this post and let you know.

However, this comes at the cost of some Gold Bars, so youll need to save up on those if you wish to utilize this trick. You can get that done by checking out our guide on how to earn Gold Bars in Fortnite.

Is Rust Still Coming To Xbox One & Xbox Series X
In a statement from Double Eleven, the company made it clear that Rust is still being made for consoles. The survival game is simply delayed, and development seems to be making steady progress. Even with the obstacles faced by Double Eleven and Facepunch Studios, though, it appears that Rust will be releasing on Xbox consoles fairly soon. The announcement indicates a release window of 2021, although a specific date wasn’t shared.
Of course, the global pandemic is still ongoing, so further development delays may occur as a result. The PC version of Rust continues to get regular updates, which indicates the studio is still developing content at a steady rate. Most likely, a late 2021 release date is imminent for Rust on Xbox One and Xbox Series X. However, additional and unexpected delays could push the console version of the game into 2022.
Until an exact release date is shared, fans are only left with a 2021 release window for Rust. Thankfully, the survival game is already available on PC, and Xbox users have some great alternatives to play while they wait. Hopefully, fans of the game won’t have to wait too much longer before Rust releases on Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

What Combat System Does Rust: Console Edition Use
Rust: Console Edition, like most survival games, utilises a rather clunky action combat system that emphasises function over aesthetics however, it is to be expected.
With the exception of Conan Exiles, most survival games do not dedicate development resources to creating elegant combat animations when most players simply wish to kill whatever is in front of them and go back to gathering supplies or improving their base.
In short, Rust has functional but unimpressive combat, and for this type of game little else is required.
