The Games: Microsoft Is Touting Thousands Of Games Spanning Four Generations But The Big Exclusive Just Got Delayed
In the console’e June 2019 announcement video, a Microsoft employee says “hundreds” of people inside and outside of Microsoft are already working on games for Xbox Series X.
The video also revealed “Halo Infinite” as a launch title for the next-gen Xbox console the next major entry in the decades-old “Halo” first-person shooter series.
The game has since been delayed to some time in 2021, and Microsoft has shifted focus to the console’s ability to play “thousands of games spanning four generations.”
The company has also announced a slew of upcoming post-launch games, including new “Forza” and “Fable” games, and “Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2.”
It’s safe to assume that major first-party game franchises, like “Gears of War,” are in production. Microsoft has said that “15 Xbox Game Studios are developing the largest and most creatively diverse lineup of Xbox exclusive games in our history” for the Xbox Series X.
Outside of Microsoft, at least two major next-gen games are in the works that we already know of: “The Elder Scrolls VI” and “Starfield,” both from Bethesda Softworks.
And beyond that, all the major multiplatform games are headed to the next-gen Xbox: “Call of Duty,” “Assassin’s Creed,” and all the major annual sports games are locks.
The Lord Of The Rings
- Publisher: Daedelic Entertainment
- Release date: 2021
- Exclusive? No, also on PS5, Windows 10
There is no full trailer for Gollum as yet but we do know that the game with be a story-driven action-adventure and from a studio well-versed in such things. We also know it’s coming to next-gen consoles, and its artistic vision looks pretty interesting so far.
Xbox Series X Backwards Compatibility
The Xbox Series X has a custom processor with eight AMD Zen 2 CPU cores, and a 12 Teraflop RDNA 2 GPU. That pairing means that the console can target performance of eight times the original Xbox One and twice that of the Xbox One X, with the new Xbox Series X able to execute games at a native 4K resolution and at 60 frames per second with little compromise. There are few new games at launch that will truly take advantage of this power, and so it’s, the way the powerful CPU can work in tandem with the SSD to automatically enhance backwards compatible games that will reflect the most obvious next-generation upgrades.
The Xbox Series X has full backwards compatibility for Xbox One games, and it supports any Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles that worked on that system too. Legacy titles run natively on Series X, which means that the thousands of available games automatically benefit from performance of CPU and SSD. Every game I have tested has seen significant reductions in load times lowering by as much as 70% in some cases. Typically, games run smoother, enjoy steadier framerates, and more stable transitions between the action and menu-based admin.

Getting in on a PS5 restock this time of year can be messy and frustrating, especially if you’ve been through a couple and still haven’t gotten your hands on a console. The good news is these PS5 restocks have been increasing in frequency — in fact, there have been two massive restocks over the last week, and it’s likely we will see more soon. Here are a few quick tips:
Over the last year, the biggest retailers have made a lot of changes to the checkout process in an effort to offer peace of mind and to keep bots from buying all of the consoles and selling them for more somewhere else. The most recent change we’ve seen in the PS5 restock game has been paid access, meaning once you buy a subscription, you get in on the next PS5 restock either earlier than anyone else or exclusively for your club.
Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2
What is it? A vampire RPG – need we say more?
What to look out for: Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 throws you into the seedy underbelly of Seattle where creatures roam, but thankfully you’re a vampire. Turned as an act of vampire terrorism during the ‘Mass Embrace’, you’ll soon get caught up in vampire faction politics, where you’re still just trying to deal with your new way of life. This is an RPG at its core too, filled with player choices, a strong narrative, and branching dialogue options too.

“Your games, your achievements, your progression, your accessories your console gaming experience with Xbox? It all comes forward,” a Microsoft staffer said in the June 2019 intro video.
Given that, and given how popular some games are with current-gen console owners think “Fortnite” and “Minecraft” a big question was whether those games will work across game console generations.
It sounds like the answer is yes.
“At the highest level, if you talk about these games that have such massive communities today, a lot of those developers and studios are going to want to think about how they grow their community not take it to zero and rebuild it,” Xbox head Phil Spencer told Business Insider in an interview in June 2019.
Spencer said he didn’t want to speak on behalf of any developers, but that the concept philosophically “fit right in” to the company’s vision for the future of Xbox.

The Look: We Wanted To Design A Console Where The Form Was Driven By The Function And The Function As I Said Was To Really Play The Highest Power Most Immersive Games Possible
The design of the Xbox Series X, first revealed on December 12 at the 2019 Game Awards, is a major departure from traditional game console design.
Rather than looking like futuristic DVD player, like so many game consoles before it, the Xbox Series X resembles an austere PC tower. It has a disc slot for Blu-ray discs, a glowing Xbox button for turning the console on, and there’s at least one USB plug hiding out on the lower right corner. We’ve yet to see what it looks like around back, but the top is just a massive air duct for cooling.
In an exclusive hands-on with Xbox Series X, GameSpot’s Peter Brown described the console’s size as such: “Series X’s square footprint is roughly as wide as an Xbox One controller and three times as tall.”
Moreover, it can be oriented horizontally or vertically, which should allow it to be easily fit into home entertainment centers.
The End Of The Xbox One Family
Microsoft refers to the Xbox One, the S, and the X as part of one Xbox Family. This means that you can play your games on any one of these consoles and use your accessories on each of them too. No one gets left behind.
Its pretty exciting, especially when you look at the effort Microsoft has put into backwards compatibility. With a huge selection of Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles available to play on the current generation, the plan is to keep this compatibility moving forward.
Can they do it? Will they be able to transition to the Xbox 2 and still keep everything backwards compatible? If anyone can do it, its them. With Phil Spencer at the head of the charge, the possibilities are endless.
Come check out our page on The End of the Xbox One to see how we believe Microsoft will make this important transition into the future.

Xbox Series X Restock Avoid The Scalpers
One of the reasons for Xbox Series X and Series S stock shortages is due to scalpers snapping up large amounts of next-gen consoles in one big sweep and then selling them for extortionate prices were taking thousands of dollars for a $499 games console.
VGC reported that a now infamous PS5 scalper group going by the name of CrepChiefNotify managed to snap up 1,000 Xbox Series X consoles as soon as they became available at U.K. retailer Very. But in a twist of fate, Very cancelled 1,000 Xbox Series X pre-orders, somewhat torpedoing the efforts of the scalpers.
As frustrating as it can be to find an Xbox Series X or Series S, we suggest you avoid buying a console from these scalpers. Paying massively over the odds for a console that doesn’t have a huge range of new Xbox Series X games isnt a shrewd move in our opinion. If you can hold out, Microsoft should have more Xbox Series X units to ship, as well as the promise of more exclusive games for the console.
New Xbox Series S Model Coming In 2022
According to the leak, this new Xbox will feature a higher-spec 6nm AMD Zen APU, which will result in higher clock speeds and, ultimately, a faster console. In simple terms: This upgraded Xbox Series S is expected to be 50% faster. As expected, this upgraded Xbox Series S model will also be a little bit costlier, but, in return, the current Xbox Series S line will continue production and will be sold at a cheaper price.
Whether this new Xbox Series S model will retain the ‘S’ name is unclear. It certainly would cause confusion if the old line were to be continued. Still, adding a number or creating a model with a whole new letter is not ideal either. Then again, Microsoft has always had the worst naming department ever, and its comedy at this point, so we’re personally hoping for an Xbox Seies Ñ.

What About Other Xbox Consoles
These Xbox consoles aren’t your only modern options on the market in 2021, although they currently represent the top devices to buy right now. We feel this collection reflects the very best available on the market, spanning both the new next-generation consoles and the somewhat readily available Xbox One-era devices. But current world events have made it challenging to purchase any new video game consoles, older Xbox consoles included.
Other recent Xbox consoles include the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, an experimental variant of the Xbox One S that axed the internal disc drive for a $50 saving. This now-discontinued model is hard to find, and available stock often fetches a higher price than Xbox One S consoles. It means you’re essentially paying more for less, making it impossible to recommend.
We’ll continue to update this guide as new Xbox console variants and bundles arise.
