The MLB 2020 season had a different look to it but, one thing remained consistent the play was as epic as ever. It was a year in which new talent announced itself to the world, flipping bats, dancing, and bringing plenty of electric moments to the game. Were also excited to share that, with our announced extension with MLB and MLB Players, MLB The Show 21 will be available for the first time ever on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. This is a very exciting moment for all of us as the storied franchise will be accessible to more gamers than ever before. San Diego Studios baseball sim MLB The Show will launch on April 5. Like last years entry, MLB The Show 22 will be multiplatform, and Nintendo Switch is joining the console lineup this year.
We havent seen MLB The Show 22 in action on Nintendo Switch just yet, as the games reveal trailer simply focuses on live-action footage of cover star Shohei Ohtani. MLB The Show 22s store page confirms that the Switch version will feature cross-play and cross-progression with the PlayStation and Xbox releases.
It also teases MLB The Show 22s new features, like new difficulty options and more elaborate intro presentations. Sony still intends to release the Nintendo Switch port on the same day as the other versions. MLB The Show 22 will cost $60 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. On PS5 and Xbox Series X, it will cost $70.
When Sony renewed its license with the MLB in December 2019, it promised to bring the baseball series to platforms outside of the PlayStation ecosystem. As Sony is usually very protective of its first-party games, this news came as a bit of a surprise. Both Xbox and Nintendo retweeted the announcement when it happened, and now well finally see MLB The Show on all three major consoles.
MLB The Show 22 will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch on April 5.

Mlb The Show 22 Coming To Xbox Game Pass At Launch
Sony San Diego Studio formally announced MLB The Show 22 today, confirming that once again the game will be released on multiple platforms. The latest installment in Sonys long-running, critically acclaimed baseball video game franchise will be released on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and, for the first time ever, Nintendo Switch.
It was also confirmed via the games FAQ section that MLB The Show 22 will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. This was also the case last year but if you missed our explanation as to how this is possible with The Show being developed by Sony San Diego Studio its actually quite simple. MLB, not Sony, publishes MLB The Show on Xbox . With MLB in charge of publishing the game outside of PlayStation, they are free to strike up whatever deal they want with other platforms.
Similar to how it was with MLB The Show 21, its quite possible that Major League Baseball wants to get the game in front of as many people as possible. Or Xbox paid them a bunch of money to get it on Game Pass. Either way, this is a definite win for baseball fans who are Xbox Game Pass subscribers.
MLB The Show is set to release on April 4, 2022. It is priced at $59.99 on Xbox One and $69.99 on Xbox Series X|S. Thats some pretty good savings for Game Pass members. As a reminder, MLB The Show 22 will feature cross save, cross progression and cross play with other consoles.

Will More Playstation Games Come To Game Pass
MLB The Show 21 is a prime example of Microsofts deep commitment to Game Pass, even if its the only Sony-published game that ever ends up on the service. According to analysts, this move doesnt mean fans should expect to see more Sony games come to Xbox consoles or Game Pass.
This development is unlikely to have tangible ramifications on future Sony exclusives, Jijiashvili asserts. I believe this was a unique case, where a games license holder forced Sonys hand.
Harding-Rolls comes to a similar conclusion, saying, I dont expect Sony to make a habit of it, no. Still, the release of MLB The Show 21 is a groundbreaking moment, as a Sony game comes to Xbox Game Pass for the first time.
MLB The Show 21 will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on April 20.
Trailer Platforms Price And Editions
The first news for MLB The Show 21 arrived on February 1, 2021 when the announcement and cover athlete trailer featuring Fernando Tatis Jr. was dropped.
We could see a similar reveal for MLB The Show 22, and the title’s significant success on Xbox means it’s likely we’ll see things back on the same platforms as MLB The Show 21.
It’s likely that the series will stay on both next gen and current gen for at least one more cycle, so we expect it to drop on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, with a sliver of a chance they finally do a PC release.
Price should remain the same, with a $60 cost on current gen, $70 on next gen, and a little more for any special editions they choose to release for MLB The Show 22.

Why Former Playstation Exclusive Mlb: The Show Is Coming To Xbox Game Pass
MLB: The Show has been a PlayStation exclusive since 2006, but new details reveal why the 2021 edition is coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch.
Although news of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s MLB: The Show losing its PlayStation exclusivity broke in 2019, it still came as a surprise when it was announced that MLB: The Show 2021 would arrive on Xbox Game Pass at launch. Now, the reasoning behind this landmark decision has been revealed.
“As part of the goal for this years game, MLB decided to bring the franchise to more players and baseball fans,” a PlayStation rep told Inverse. “This decision provides a unique opportunity to further establish MLB The Show as the premier brand for baseball video games.”
Omdia Principal Analyst George Jijiashbvili elaborated on this, saying, “This is all about MLB finding a bigger audience, which took precedence over console manufacturer jousting.” Ampere Analysis Research Director Piers Harding-Rolls added that, “From MLBs point of view, this makes commercial sense as it opens up the content to a lot more players, especially in the US, but also keeps the established studio working on the game. Im sure has been watching the in-game monetization of other sports games franchises such as Madden and FIFA with interest and is thinking about audience reach rather than premium sales in this case.”
