Insurgency: Sandstorm Is Coming To Ps4 And Xbox One In August
Insurgency: Sandstorm, the Middle East themed tactical shooter from New World Interactive, is finally heading to console. The game will be coming out for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 25th August 2020.
The game will hope to capitalise on the popularity of Rainbow Six Siege on console, offering a different brand of tactical shooter. You still have deadly weaponry, with deaths coming in just one or two shots, but maps are larger, theres artillery, and different objective-based game modes.
Keith Warner, President of NWI said, The console market has been craving a hardcore modern-day tactical shooter for a long time. Expanding our tried and tested PC formula to the console market is a huge step in our companys evolution and we are excited to bring our signature style of tactical FPS to the console market for the very first time.
Its been a pretty long wait for console owners eager for a new tactical shooter, as Insurgency: Sandstorm was already mooted for a console release when it first launched on PC on 12th December 2018. Originally expected some time in 2019, the team went quiet about this version of the game through the second half of last year. In fairness, they were always pretty coy about how it was coming along, and always noted that theyre still a small team.
Ive played the game a fair bit on PC, and its good, unforgiving fun that rewards a little bit of patience. Im eager to see how that translates to console.
Loved: Variety Of Maps And Modes
With fourteen maps to play on and tons of game types to play against both bots and other players, there is a healthy amount of content and variety. Players can experience this via local play or they can go on online servers via the server browser as well.
There are three overarching modes that contain individual game types. For example, Versus is primarily PvP and features Push, Frontline, Domination, and Firefight. Cooperative is players against bots, and it features Checkpoint, Survival, and Outpost. The maps even have a day stage and night stages something that really allows for fun and unique experiences on its own. Competitive is for ranked matches and uses the Firefight game mode.

Insurgency Sandstorm Finally Has A Console Release Date
It looks like Insurgency Sandstorm will finally release on PS4 and Xbox One on September 29, 2021.
The team-based, tactical shooter which was originally expecting to be available on console at the same time as its Steam debut way back in 2018 suffered a string of delays on console that saw its release window be pushed back several times, most recently slipping from its August 2020 release date.
Now, however, we not only get a vague release window but an actual date well, if the pre-order link publisher Maximum Games UK directs us to is accurate, that is. As neither developer New World Interactive nor the game’s own verified have said anything just yet and even the video embedded in Maximum’s tweet still only commits to 2021 it might be wise not to get too excited, but according to VG24/7, Gamespot in the US also cites a September 29 release. So fingers crossed, eh?

Is Insurgency Sandstorm Coming To Ps5 And Xbox Series X
Whilst there’s no official information to date, it certainly sounds as though the game will look to avoid releasing on aging hardware in favor of the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
The logic of delaying the games console launch to ensure a more forward-thinking release on next-gen hardware seems like a smart move , despite the extra wait console players have to endure.
This sentiment seems to be at the heart of the press release put out by Keith Warner and Derek Czerkaski.
Whilst the extra time will not doubt help “improve the Day 1 experience and deliver a more complete and optimized version of the game, they also specifically namedrop exciting possibilities of a next-gen console release.
Though it’s mentioned that they still intend to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, depending on the length of delay, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the game only come to next-gen consoles.
If only so the team can take advantage of the full selection of next-gen bells and whistles.
Hopefully, we’ll learn more later this year as we approach the release of the PS5 and Xbox Series X in the fall.
Didn’t: Small And Quirky Bugs
Sandstorm is by no means a poorly made game. It is certainly a far cry from those broken and buggy releases that seem to be coming all the more common in the AAA gaming sphere. That said, it does have frustrating and somewhat odd little glitches every now and again.
These bugs are oftentimes not reproducible and happen at random. The player’s weapon could disappear, they could get stuck in geometry, bots can get caught mid T-pose, and so on. The good news is that bugs of this nature often get fixed with new updates, though new ones tend to emerge as well over time.

It’s a primarily competitive game, featuring multiple online modes where you fight against other players. There’s also a co-op mode, Checkpoint, where players team up to fight AI and complete objectives. The game has been praised for its audio design, which aims for heightened realism and more intense battle noises. The game is playable at PAX East over the weekend of February 28 to March 2, if you’re in Boston.
