Subnautica: Below Zero is on its way soon, and there is plenty to be excited about ahead of its release.
The open-world survival game developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment is a sequel to the 2018 game Subnautica.
Below Zero has currently been out on early access for PC users, however the game will soon be coming to consoles.
Is Subnautica Below Zero On Game Pass
Yeah… We hate to break this to you but the answer is no. It will not be on Xbox’s Game Pass subscription at launch.
It might be worth keeping an eye on Xbox’s Game Pass social media channels in case there is a surprise announcement, but from looking at the official Xbox.com page for Subnautica Below Zero, there is no mention of it.
Subnautica Below Zero will feature Series X|S optimisation, though. This means it will run at a smooth 60 Frames per Second and feature 4K Ultra HD fidelity. The Xbox Series X can even handle up to 120 FPS if you have a display capable of that!

Subnautica: Below Zero Is An Icy Survival Game
Unknown Worlds first launched Subnautica: Below Zero in early access via Epic Games Store and Steam in January 2019. Then, the full version arrived on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on May 14, 2021.
Subnautica: Below Zero, a sequel to the 2018 hit Subnautica, takes players underwater on Planet 4546B. However, unlike the original game, Below Zero also includes some land exploration. Two years after the events of Subnautica, a scientist arrives on the planet to investigate the mysterious disappearance of their sister and other fellow researchers.
Players must use survival skills to avoid the alien dangers on Planet 4546B. They must pay attention to their health, hunger, thirst, oxygen, and even temperature, as hypothermia is common in the arctic environment. Along the way, players can also craft supplies and shelters.
As Subnautica: Below Zero project lead David Kalina told PC Invasion, the game focuses on survival. However, theres also a heavy emphasis on exploration and discovery.
We want players to want to survive. In order to do that, were continually trying to entice them with promising new corners of the game for them to explore, he said. Survival creates necessity necessity drives exploration exploration triggers curiosity curiosity leads to discovery.
Additionally, Kalina emphasized the importance of player freedom.

Below Zero On Xbox & Playstation When
Subnautica Below Zero is going into Early Access on Mac & Windows PC. We want to bring Below Zero to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as soon as possible. We dont know when it will be, and predicting dates is a Bad Thing We dont want to disappoint you by speculating about a date we dont know we can hit.
On Xbox One, we may be able to release Below Zero in Game Preview before launch. We cant promise this, but we are exploring the possibility. Sony does not allow Early Access games, so we will not be releasing any kind of preview on PlayStation.
We are aiming to release the 1.0 version of Below Zero simultaneously on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Mac, and Windows PC. We dont know if we can do it, but that is our target, and well keep you updated on our progress.
In the mean time, we are continuing to work on updates for the original Subnautica on both Xbox and PlayStation.

The official Nintendo Support page states that new games are available at the following times.

However, third party titles do not necessarily unlock at the above times. Subnautica Below Zero may also launch at midnight for Nintendo Switch, but could also unlock at the aforementioned times.

Subnautica: Below Zero Release Date Confirmed For May
The Subnautica: Below Zero release date has been confirmed for May 14, 2021.
In an announcement today, developer and publisher Unknown Worlds revealed that the sequel to the 2018 survival hit will leave early access in May with a full release on all major consoles, including the PS5 and Xbox Series X, as well as PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
If you’re already familiar with Subnautica, then expect plenty more underwater exploration. Below Zero is set on the same planet as Subnautica, a year after the events of the original game, but adds a twist on the formula by dialing down the temperature and moving the action to an alien research center. There’s an all-new story and plenty of new tech to craft to help you survive in the icy depths.
If you’ve never taken the plunge before, the release of Subnautica: Below Zero on Switch offers an excellent opportunity to try out the entire series, as the original game will also be launching on Nintendo’s console on May 14, and will be available as part of a physical bundle alongside the upcoming sequel.
Subnautica: Below Zero arrived on Steam in January 2019, meaning it’s a little behind the schedule that Unknown Worlds set out back then, which aimed for “approximately one year” in early access. It’s rare, however, that a bit of extra development time doesn’t work out well for a game, and given the kind of survival game pedigree we’re dealing with here, even the wait for May 14 shouldn’t be too hard to bear.

Astria Ascending, Aragami 2, and more games are also joining Subnautica: Below Zero on the Xbox Game Pass to cap off this month.
Its the midway point of September and that means Xbox has a new slate of Xbox Game Pass games it will be including in the popular program throughout the end of the month. Late Septembers Xbox Game Pass additions arent blockbusters, but there are quite a few interesting games in there, both new and simply beloved by players in their previous debuts. Chief among them? Subnautica: Below Zero, which comes Console, Cloud, and PC versions of the Xbox Game Pass next week.
Xbox announced its late September Xbox Game Pass additions in an Xbox Wire blog post on September 15, 2021. It features game releases on the Xbox Game Pass program throughout the end of September and into the first day of October. In addition to Subnautica: Below Zero, there are a number of other interesting titles coming to the program, including Aragami 2 and Astria Ascending, which will be day one releases, as well as the X-COM-like Phoenix Point.

Below Zero has been built on top of a game that many know and love, but were not looking to play the same exact song each time. The original Subnautica is one of those games I wish I could wipe from my memory so that I could plunge in and comb its depths for the first time all over again. No ones worked out how to do that without some pretty severe side effects, but Subnautica: Below Zero is the next best thing: even though its a bit smaller, it gives us a whole new watery sector to explore, survive, craft, and build awesome bases in, and its just as exhilarating.

The action-adventure game is another open-world survival experience in a first-person perspective. While Subnautica was solely based underwater, Below Zero will allow players to step foot on land to explore new terrain.
