We learned in December 2019 that The Show would likely be headed to other consoles like Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch.
In fact, when the announcement was made, both Xbox and Nintendo of Americas Twitter accounts posted the message from Sony.
One question that Im seeing from thirsty cyber baseball fans online is when will The Show be available for their console? There is no definitive answer, but based on the release from Sony, The Show should be available for the next-gen Xbox and The Switch as early as next spring.

No MLB The Show 22 release date has currently been announced, but looking into previous release dates for MLB The Show 18 , MLB The Show 19 , MLB The Show 20 and MLB The Show 21 wed make the educated guess that the game will release towards the end of March and the start of April.

As of right now, the expected MLB The Show 22 release date is Tuesday, April 19, 2022.
While unconfirmed, this timing makes the most sense considering last year’s release date, and isn’t far off from the timing used in previous years.
While MLB The Show 19, 18, and 20 all released in late March just before MLB Opening Day, we saw a shift with MLB The Show 21 as it landed in the third week of April.
That allowed the hype of MLB Opening Day to pass prior to release and build anticipation for launch, which is a strategy that worked very well and seems likely to continue with MLB The Show 22.

This past week, Sony San Diego officially announced MLB The Show 21, confirming the long-awaited news that this years baseball sim will be on platforms outside the PlayStation family of consoles. This years game will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One officially ending PlayStations exclusivity for the best baseball game on the market.
The announcement wasnt too surprising considering the multiyear partnership extension between Sony, Sony San Diego, MLB and the MLB Players Association announced in December 2019 essentially confirmed MLB The Show would be coming to additional console platforms beyond PlayStation platforms as early as 2021. What we didnt know at the time was exactly which consoles it would be coming to.
Now we know its PlayStation and Xbox with Nintendo and PC seemingly left out in the cold at least for the time being. The lack of a Nintendo Switch announcement was somewhat surprising to me considering Nintendo of America was one of the companies to respond to the news of MLB The Show going multiplatform, but it really shouldnt have been too unexpected.
The Nintendo Switch is a considerably less powerful console than the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Even more so when compared to the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X. And when comparing it to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S which was probably the focus for MLB The Show 21 well, forget about it.

As weâve mentioned multiple times, MLB The Show 21 will be on Xbox Game Pass despite the fact that itâs from Microsoftâs biggest rival. Inverse has reported that the Xbox Game Pass collaboration was the MLBâs decision, and they are even technically the publisher of the Xbox port on Microsoft’s store.
Regardless, this groundbreaking deal just means youâll need a Game Pass for Console or Game Pass Ultimate subscription to try out either the Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S versions of the game as soon as they go live. While the game will likely leave the service eventually, youâll be able to buy the full game for a 20% discount as a Game Pass member.

A Sony representative has confirmed that MLB The Show 21s upcoming release on Xbox consoles was solely MLBs decision.
The anonymous rep said to Inverse: As part of the goal for this years game, MLB decided to bring the franchise to more players and baseball fans. This decision provides a unique opportunity to further establish MLB The Show as the premier brand for baseball video games.
The reps comment comes after it was announced last week that MLB The Show 21 will release on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Game Pass alongside PS4 and PS5. This marks the first time an MLB The Show game is being released on Xbox since 2006, when the game became a PlayStation exclusive.
Inverse also spoke to several analysts, who believe the move makes practical sense for the MLB, in terms of reaching a wider audience. Im sure has been watching the in-game monetization of other sports games franchises such as Madden and FIFA with interest and is thinking about audience reach rather than premium sales in this case, said Ampere analysis research director Piers Harding-Rolls.
MLB The Show 21 will release on April 20 on Xbox consoles via standard purchase options, as well as Xbox Game Pass on launch day. Players will also get to enjoy cross-play, meaning Xbox players will get to go up against PlayStation gamers and vice versa.

Its the latest high point of whats been an astronomical rise for Tatis. Signed by the Chicago White Sox in 2015, he was traded to the Padres in June 2016 and rocketed through the minor leagues before making his MLB debut in March 2019. Across his first two pro seasons he has a batting average of .301, has smashed 39 home runs and 98 RBI, and grabbed both the Silver Slugger Award and a spot in the All-MLB First Team in 2020. The scary part for the 29 clubs outside of San Diego: Tatis Jr has only just turned 22.
All three collectors editions of the game feature legendary second baseman Jackie Robinson, the first ever African American to play Major League Baseball, on the cover. Sony’s first-ever Xbox game is out now for certain editions, but the Game Pass release isn’t until April 20.
Update: MLB The Show 21 is now available for those who bought the Jackie Robinson Edition and the Digital Deluxe and Jackie Robinson Digital Deluxe Editions on both Xbox and PlayStation platforms. However, those waiting to get it via Xbox Game Pass will still have to wait until April 20. All Xbox Game Pass subscribers will get the game for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S that day at no extra charge.

It’s an exciting time for fans of the MLB The Show series, as this year’s MLB The Show 21 is releasing in just a matter of hours now. Publisher Sony has announced that the game’s premium editions unlock when the clock strikes midnight on April 16.
The four-day early access weekend only applies to the more expensive editions of the game, and not the standard edition. The $85 Jackie Robinson Edition and the $100 Digital Deluxe and Jackie Robinson Deluxe editions include the four-day early access promotion, so you will need to pay extra to start playing early.
Not only does buying one of these premium editions let you play four days early, but every collector’s edition sold in the US until the end of 2021 includes a $1 donation from PlayStation to the Jackie Robinson Foundation.
This money will go toward helping to fund the foundation’s Scholars Program that aims to reduce the achievement gap in higher education.
