Xbox Series X Features And Backward Compatibility
Microsoft hasn’t shown off many new tricks for the Xbox Series X. It will be much more powerful and support ray tracing, but aside from that, the main benefit of the system appears to be the upgrade from a hard drive to an SSD for storage. Games won’t just run on faster hardware, they’ll also load faster.
Nostalgic Xbox fans will be satisfied by the Series X, which will boast robust backward compatibility. The system will play Xbox One, Xbox 360, and even original Xbox games, providing access to a massive library of classics.
Xbox Series X Features
- Dolby Atmos and DTS support
- More entertainment apps available than before
- Smart Delivery makes it easy to jump between consoles
- Xbox app makes it easier to manage and access your console on the go
The Xbox Series X has a number of useful features and meaningful quality-of-life improvements, while the inclusion of a Blu-ray drive and access to entertainment apps means the console can double-up as a home entertainment system.
Multimedia On Xbox Series X
The Series X also offers a range of multimedia features. For one, the console boasts a built-in 4K Blu-ray player thats simple to use.
You also have access to a range of streaming services: theres Netflix, , Disney Plus, and others that are available on existing Xbox One consoles, plus some that are new to the platform, including Apple TV Plus and region-specific apps such as Hulu in the US and Sky Go in the UK. All of these can take advantage of the console’s 4K UHD capabilities, although some require a decent internet connection.
While all the most popular entertainment apps are available, we did find that there are still some that we wish we had access to, such as ITV Hub and BBC iPlayer in the UK.

Xbox Series X Review: Games
On the whole, there aren’t a huge amout of new Xbox Series X games that are exclusive for the console. And neither will there be, as games will also need to be playable on the Xbox Series S, as well as come to Windows 10, and soon Windows 11, PCs.
However, the Xbox Series X and Series S will have upcoming console exclusives in the from of Halo Infinite, Fable 4 and Starfield, as well as a bevy of other titles checkout our recap of the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase at E3 2021 for a full breakdown.
But while you wait for those games there’s a bevy of Xbox Series X and Series S enhanced games to play. The likes of Cyberpunk 2077, Forza Horizon 4, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and Destiny 2: Beyond Light and Sea of Thieves will all run better on the Xbox Series X than other Xbox hardware. Do bear in mind that some games will chew through SSD space, including the upcoming Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl.
What Is Smart Delivery On Xbox Series X
If you’re thinking of holding off on purchasing current-gen games that will likely straddle two console generations â like Cyberpunk 2077 and Gears 5 â you’re in luck: Series X’s new Smart Delivery feature means you can buy the Xbox One version of a game and get the enhanced Series X version for free once it’s available.
This bold choice is a welcome change from what’s previously been the industry standard, namely having to buy multiple copies of the same way.

Xbox Series X And Series S Controller
The fourth generation Xbox Controller doesn’t change much from the Xbox One controller, but the new wireless Xbox Controller does add a capture and share button, a hybrid d-pad, and better gripping on the bumpers and triggers. The controller is also promised to be cross compatible with certain PC’s and mobile devices.

The year of the Xbox Series X is here and as we quickly approach the holiday time, gamers are chomping at the bit for a release date, among other details. While there isnt a lot of concrete information yet, there is certainly a lot of information floating around out there.

Xbox Series X Xbox Live
Xbox Live has always been the backbone of the Xbox ecosystem and a new generation would traditionally introduce new innovations to the service. Last generation, Microsoft used the Xbox One launch to raise the friends list from 100 to 1000, made a number of quality-of-life improvements, and built a ‘Smart Match’ system that sought to improve matchmaking. Given how closely the Xbox Series X is intertwined with the Xbox One in service of forwards and backwards compatibility, we aren’t seeing the same degree of innovation or evolution. Everything has to be consistent across both generations, and across platforms encompassing PC and Android devices thanks to xCloud and Remote Play.
With the Xbox Series X wired into the broader Xbox ecosystem, you’ll find that there are no new restrictions on who you can play with, party with, or send messages to. Xbox Live recognises Xbox Series X as another console on the network and, as a result, I haven’t experienced any problems jumping into rounds of Fortnite or Call of Duty: Warzone with Xbox One and PS4 players, nor did I notice any problems or disadvantages when playing Gears 5 multiplayer at 120fps with Xbox One players who are locked to 60fps.

Why Did Xbox Get Released Before Ps5 Microsoft Bets Two
People who preordered the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S get a slight window this week to gloat over those who are getting the PlayStation 5.
Microsoft is releasing its console on Tuesday, while Sony is waiting until Thursday. That’s not a big difference, or one that will be remembered for long, but it might feel like ages to antsy gamers anxious to try out their new systems.
After the PlayStation 4 destroyed the Xbox One in sales, Microsoft wants every advantage it can get this time around. A two-day head start is a possible momentum builder entering the holiday season, building chatter and social media gameplay content 48 hours early.
Below is a look at the release date difference in 2020, and how it compares to previous generations:

When Will Xbox Series X Come Out
Do not be confused between Xbox Series X and Xbox One. Xbox One is amongst the latest consoles launched by Microsoft prior to Xbox Series X, which has not yet been released. The Xbox One was released on November 22, 2013, whereas other prior consoles, Xbox 360 and Xbox, were launched on November 22, 2005, and November 15, 2001, respectively.

A New Toy And A New Look
In both 2009 and 2010, June proved to be an important month for the 360. First, the motion- and voice-control peripheral that would eventually become Kinect was announced in June 2009 at that years E3 convention. Originally labeled Project Natal , the device was expected to revolutionize the way 360 owners interacted with both their console and the media connected with it. The Kinect arrived on shelves in November of that year.
One year after the Kinect was announced, Microsoft announced that the Xbox 360 would be getting a major redesign, with a thinner body, upgraded internal specs, additional USB ports, and built-in Wi-Fi. The Xbox 360 S hit shelves a few days later on June 18, 2010.

Xbox Series X Review: A Full Year Later The Xbox Series X Is Proving Its Worth
For those taking a more cautious “wait and see” approach, you might have been put off by the Xbox Series X launch lineup. You may have been wondering how the consoles held up over time. After over six months of near non-stop usage, I’m pretty confident to call the Xbox Series X my favorite console of all time.
For over a year, my Xbox Series X has become my primary console of choice, and the cornerstone of my leisure time. And after Microsoft’s E3 2021 showcase, I couldn’t be more excited for the platform’s future.
As the Xbox Series X passes its first birthday, we’re going to cover the hardware and design, its capabilities as a gaming console, as well as a centerpiece of your entertainment system. What are we losing, and what are we gaining? Are the tradeoffs worth it? Do the games honor Microsoft’s claim that this is the most powerful gaming console ever made? And is the Xbox Series X a worthwhile gaming investment for the future?
Fps Boost On Xbox Series X
Microsoft has added a new feature to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S post-launch called FPS Boost, which has the potential to quadruple the framerates of older titles. It means that games that were previously locked to 30 frames per second can now hit 60fps – some games can even hit 120fps.
At present, FPS Boost only applies to Xbox One games, and to a specific selection of games. But the list is fairly extensive and were likely to see this feature rolled out to Xbox 360 and original Xbox games in the future. FPS Boost is a fantastic upgrade, particularly for those with an Xbox Game Pass subscription, as it allows Xbox One games to utilize the power of the Xbox Series X. So, for compatible games, it feels less of a technological step back when you decide to revisit some of your favorite Xbox One games.
If, for some reason, you don’t want to play these games at a higher framerate, you can also turn it off on a per-game basis. However, we’d recommend leaving it on as it makes games look visually smoother and feel far more responsive.
We’ve included some of the games which benefit from FPS Boost below, but you can also check out the full list here.
- Far Cry 4 – 60fps
- The Elder Scrolls V: Special Edition – 60fps

Ps5 Pro Release Date Estimates
Any TV maker has a direct interest in gaming consoles. They want their newest TVs to make the most of the latest gaming hardware. Therefore, TCLs mention of the next-gen PlayStation and Xbox models shouldnt be surprising. The company is simply preparing for the future of entertainment, which will undoubtedly include better gaming hardware.
But that doesnt mean TCL is actually aware of the PS5 Pro and new Xbox Series X release dates. What TCL did during a recent 2022 product presentation was to offer a roadmap for the future of gaming, as seen below. Were likely looking at estimates here, albeit informed ones.
TCL believes Sony will release the PS5 Pro in 2023 or 2024. The same goes for Microsofts new Xbox Series X/S models. These devices will be part of the so-called Gen 9.5 game consoles, as seen below.
In a new conference, TCL Technology have said that a new Xbox Series S/X and PS5 Pro are coming in 2023/2024.

Microsofts Two New Consoles
This week, Microsoft released its two new Xbox consoles. Theres the $499 Xbox Series X, and a cheaper $299 Xbox Series S. You can read our reviews of both of them by following the links below.
Its not unusual for console manufacturers to offer a couple of different hardware options at launch, but normally, the differences are minor. The PS3, for example, was initially available in two models. There was a version with a 60GB hard drive as well as a cheaper version with a smaller 20GB hard drive, no Wi-Fi support, and fewer ports. Meanwhile, Microsoft also originally sold a Core version of the Xbox 360 in 2005, which included compromises like including a wired rather than wireless controller and omitting a hard drive.
The differences between the Xbox Series S and Series X are more substantial and have a big impact on how games look. While Microsoft says the Series X is targeting running games at 60fps at a full 4K resolution, the Series S instead targets a lower 1440p resolution at 60fps. Its a big power disparity, similar to what we saw between the Xbox One and the Xbox One X, but this time, the two consoles were available on day one, rather than releasing years apart.
The Xbox Series X comes complete with a disc drive.Microsofts Series S is less powerful and digital-only.
What About Xbox Series S
Codenamed Project Lockhart, the Xbox Series S, is the cheaper, digital-only alternative to the new Xbox Series X.
The lower-cost console had been rumoured for a while along with the disc-less feature, and faster CPU. Think PS4 Pro without the disc dive. Microsoft has said that Xbox Series X will be part of a family of consoles and it seems they were true to their word.

Microsoft Has Confirmed Halo Infinite Showcase For Julys Xbox 20/20
Halo Infinite is one of the launch titles Microsoft has announced for the Xbox Series X. Players have yet to get another glimpse of the title since it was first unveiled in 2018, but that will change in Julys edition of Xbox 20/20.
You may have seen people talking about this lightly before, but were extremely excited to confirm that Halo Infinite will be one of many first-party titles included in the Xbox 20/20 event in July. Get ready, said Halos community manager on the games official blog.
Quick Resume Acts Like The Ultimate Pause Button
Using their fast storage access, the Xbox Series X and Series S allow you to suspend almost any game by creating a snapshot of it in system memory. You can then start another game, watch a movie, or even turn off and completely unplug your console. The next time you start the game in question, itll pick up exactly where you left off. Its a lot like switching between open apps on a smartphone, and you can do it with several games at once. Games already boot up faster on the new consoles because of their storage speed, and if youre playing more than one thing, switching between games using quick resume saves a lot of time and frustration because you skip any menus and save/load screens that you might otherwise be forced to navigate. And in the few months weve been using the console, every time we boot up a game for the first time in weeks only to load up exactly where we left off in seconds is a delightful experience.
Initially, Quick Resume support was somewhat spotty, with several games encountering problems with the feature but recent patches have improved overall stability, though there are still occasional, unavoidable issues. For titles like the 2018 remaster of Dark Souls, which uses an always online server system, Quick Resume just about always results in a server disconnect, which will boot you to the title screen .
