The red ring of death is synonymous with the Xbox 360when talking about its failings, that is. Play Skyrim or GTA IVor any game, reallyfor too long, and an ominous red ring lit up around the Xbox power button.
There were plenty of creative ways to fix the red ring problem, from wrapping your Xbox in towels to spraying it with compressed air. This new Xbox 360 is already shipping in a $299 bundle, and it is rumored that a bundle with a smaller hard drive will become available for $199 in fall 2010. Xbox 360 Will Live On
Microsoft said that, collectively, gamers spent 78 billion hours gaming on its console, and 25 billion more hours using apps like Netflix. That itself is noteworthy, given that the Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 were the first consoles to be capable of streaming movies and television shows from the Internet in addition to playing games. Ironically, Microsoft allowed streaming and other apps to become the initial focus of the Xbox One, but the company beat a hasty retreat when gamers protested.
While Microsoft will halt the manufacture of the Xbox 360 console, its services will continue unabated, for now. Xbox Live services for the 360 will continue, and the servers that support Xbox 360 such services as multiplayer gaming will remain online and active, Spencer said. Gamers will be able to buy more than 4000 existing Xbox 360 titles either via the Xbox Store or through retailers, at least until supplies run out. Microsoft will also continue to support the console through its warranty program.
Finally, Microsoft said that it plans to continue the Deals with Gold and Games with Gold programs the latter offers one of the best deals in gaming: If a gamer subscribes to the Xbox Live service, he or she receives four free games per month: two for the Xbox One, and two for the Xbox 360. Microsoft stopped making new Xbox 360 consoles in 2016, but there’s still a lot of fun to be had if you take a deep dive into the platform’s massive library of games. Whether you never owned an Xbox 360 when it was still a current gen system, you’re looking to pick up a used system for a younger child who is starting to get into gaming, or you just want to play some great exclusives that you missed out on, there are still plenty of reasons to pick up an Xbox 360.
The problem is that, unlike consoles from earlier generations, the Xbox 360 underwent two major revisions and also had a number of different models within each revision. It was confusing enough at the time, so it’s easy to understand how the sheer number of options could become overwhelming if all you want to do is pick up a used Xbox 360 off eBay or Craigslist.
If you are looking to buy an Xbox 360, here are the three major hardware revisions, including some of the most important facts about each. Following this brief rundown, you’ll find some more in-depth information about each type of Xbox 360.

The Lack Of Storage Space
The original Xbox 360 had measly storage options, of 20, 60, 120 GB at launch. While the system didnt require the full game to be downloaded to your console to play, it meant that updates could end up clogging your memory.
As the gaming world evolvedespecially towards the end of the consoles lifespanfull game downloads were a major investment, even though the Xbox 360 S came with larger storage options.
Integrating Kinect With Microsoft Azure
Microsoft had abandoned the idea of Kinect for video games, but still explored the potential of Kinect beyond that. Microsoft’s Director of Communications Greg Sullivan stated in 2018 that “I think one of the things that is beginning to be understood is that Kinect was never really just the gaming peripheral…It was always more.” Part of Kinect technology was integrated into Microsoft’s Hololens, first released in 2016.
Microsoft announced that it was working on a new version of a hardware Kinect model for non-game applications that would integrate with their Azure cloud computing services in May 2018. The use of cloud computing to offload some of the computational work from Kinect, as well as more powerful features enable by Azure such as artificial intelligence would improve the accuracy of the depth-sensing and reduce the power demand and would lead to more compact units, Microsoft had envisioned. The Azure Kinect device was released on June 27, 2019 at a price of US$400, while the SDK for the unit had been released in February 2019.

Jammed Xbox 360 Drive Can Anyone Help
I have an Xbox 360 slim with a jammed dvd drive the first pic is closed as far as it will go, the second is as far as it comes out. Ive tried the manual release but it doesnt want to come out any further than the second pic. Is there any fix for this
I see the other comments about you having to realign the disk drive gears. If you can afford it , Id use this opportunity to get a new disk drive for it.
My 360 drive was dying and I went ahead and ordered a new one and it works very well.
Its not a huge upgrade but it definitely prolongs the life of the system.

Why Was Ps2 So Successful
The PlayStation 2s success can be attributed to more than its stellar game library. In fact, a lot of video game fans werent impressed by most of the PS2s launch titles. Xbox 360. See more
Microsoft’s first video game console, the Xbox, has sold more than 20 million units worldwide since its introduction in 2001. Despite the Xbox’s impressive power, the list of big-name video game titles to support it and the success of the Xbox’s online component, Xbox LIVE, Sony’s PlayStation 2 still outsold it.
As the game industry moved into the next generation of video game technology, Microsoft was determined to dethrone Sony’s PlayStation. Enter the Xbox 360.
Microsoft rebuilt the Xbox from the ground up. From the name to the look to hardware and features, the Xbox 360 is a radically different and more powerful machine than its predecessor. Far more than a video game console, the Xbox 360 is a total media center that allows users to play, network, rip, stream and download all types of media, including high-definition movies, music, digital pictures and game content.
In this article, we will learn about the hardware and features that make the Xbox 360 a leap forward into the next generation of gaming consoles.

Xbox One Slim: Specs Price And Release Date
Just a few days ago, Microsoft’s Xbox One Slim was still only just a rumor, but the company confirmed the console today at its E3 presentation.
Microsoft revealed the Xbox One Slim and gave E3 audiences more details about the new console’s specs, price and release date.
To start, the Xbox One Slim lives up to its name: it is 40 percent smaller than the current Xbox One. However, good things come with the smaller package, including a hard drive with up to 2 TB that can output 4K video. The Xbox One Slim also has the ability to stand up vertically and features a new and improved controller design.
However, that’s not all: the Xbox One Slim also features an IR blaster that will allow users to operate their television sets without needing a Kinect. The Xbox One Slim doesn’t have a dedicated port for Kinect, though, so players still wanting to hook up a Kinect will need a separate USB adaptor.
Microsoft dubs the new console the “Xbox One S.”
“Introducing the new Xbox One S,” Microsoft writes. “Play the greatest games lineup, including Xbox 360 classics, on a 40 percent smaller console. Experience richer, more luminous colors in games and video with High Dynamic Range technology. Stream 4K video on Netflix and Amazon Video, and watch UHD Blu-ray movies in stunning 4K Ultra HD. Includes the newly streamlined Xbox Wireless Controller.”
Microsoft also recently announced new customizable Xbox One controllers that come in a variety of new colors.

Avoid The Red Ring Of Death
- Original 360 Pros: These models include all of the original Xbox 360 hardware, which should make you wary. Why? Four words: Red Ring of Death. For those not in the know, this is an error caused by a number of internal problems, including overheating. 360 owners using the old hardware will suffer a failure rate of close to 50% while using these older models. Microsoft is well aware of the problem and will replace a failed Xbox 360 free of charge, but you will be without a game console for a few weeks.
- 20 GB Hard Drive: 360 models built after 2007 contain the Falcon motherboard and chipset, a significant improvement over the more failure-prone machines. If you buy used from eBay or a retail outlet, be careful of the older models. It is difficult to tell when they were made, but there are a few tricks you can use. The first is to open up your Xbox and take a look, but that’s a whole article in itself. The second is to look at the original box. Find the SKU info under all of the product descriptions. If you have a 360 that came from lot 0734 or higher, you’re in the clear. If it is lower, then you have the older, less reliable, motherboard.
- 60 GB Hard Drive: Other than more space, there are no significant differences between the recent 20 GB and 60 GB models.

New Features And Differences
Despite being a new model, the Xbox 360 E doesn’t really have many new features compared to the Xbox 360 S.
When the console was announced, Microsoft stated that it would run quieter and cooler compared to the original Xbox 360 and the slimmer redesign, the Xbox 360 S.
The console is slightly smaller than its predecessor the Xbox 360 S. The Xbox 360 E has also been completely redesigned on the outside to match its successor, the Xbox One.
Another major difference is the absence of multi-AV out port. Instead, what’s left is a jack for a 1/8-inch breakout AV cable. A cable for a composite connection comes in the box, but you’ll need to find a component one for HD.
Microsoft has also removed some of the versatile connection interfaces that were present on the Xbox 360 S. This includes the dedicated optical audio-out found on earlier Xbox 360 models. This means the only way to get surround sound on the Xbox 360 E is through a HDMI connection.
Another loss for the Xbox 360 E is one of its USB ports. This means that in total the 360 E only has 4 USB ports compared to 5 on older models.
The touch power and eject buttons from the 360 S have also been replaced with more-traditional physical buttons.
