Xbox Series X Wireless Controller
The new controller for Microsoft’s Xbox Series X continues nearly 20 years of development. According to the official Xbox Series X website, the new wireless controller will feature textured grips and triggers, an enhanced hybrid d-pad, and a standalone share button–allowing you to save screenshots and videos of your game sessions and upload them online. While the Xbox One had the option to share video and screenshots from your sessions, this is the first time an Xbox controller will have its own dedicated button for saving and sharing content on the controller for it. The newest controller will also feature continued USB and Bluetooth support, making it usable for PC and even the current Xbox One as well.

When Did Microsoft Come Out With The Xbox 360

On May 12, 2005, Microsoft unveiled the Xbox 360, the next generation of its gaming console. Why Did The Xbox 360 Become A Popular Gaming Console
Multiplatform games on the system tended to look better on the 360 as a result. Via software emulation, the console offered backwards compatibility with roughly half the original Xbox library, though many ports did suffer from glitches of varying severity. The 360 eventually became a popular living room entertainment center.
Initial Announcement And Content Acquisitions
Gates first publicly mentioned the Xbox in an interview in late 1999, stating that he wanted the system “to be the platform of choice for the best and most creative game developers in the world”. It was later announced officially by Gates in a keynote presentation at the Game Developers Conference in San Jose on March 10, 2000, showing off an early prototype build of the system and a series of demos showcasing its hardware. The presentation and the new system were well-received, impressing developers with both the hard drive and the Ethernet port and appealing to them with the notion of easy-to-use development tools.
Microsoft began looking at a series of acquisitions and partnerships to secure content for the console at this time. In early 2000, Sega’s Dreamcast sales were diminishing, in part due to Electronic Arts‘ decision to bypass the console, and Sony’s PlayStation 2 was just going on sale in Japan. Gates was in talks with Sega’s late chairman Isao Okawa about the possibility of Xbox compatibility with Dreamcast games, but negotiations fell apart over whether the Dreamcast’s SegaNet online service should be implemented. Microsoft also looked to acquire Electronic Arts, Nintendo, Square Enix, and Midway without success. The company did achieve success in convincing developers at Bethesda Game Studios and Tecmo about the power of the Xbox over the PS2, lining up The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Dead or Alive 3 as Xbox console-exclusives.

An Xbox Console Retrospective
Before the original Xbox was released in 2001, many doubted Microsoft’s chances to compete in the video game console business. Up until that point, the company had been primarily a PC software vendor, and there hadn’t been room for four major consoles. It also had to compete against the PlayStation 2 and GameCube at the time. Despite the initial stiff competition and several pitfalls along the way, the Xbox brand has made significant strides over the past 15 years to become a household name in the hardware world and a significant pillar of Microsoft’s business. It has since sold well over 100 million consoles.
Let’s take a walk down memory lane as we chronologically look back at all of Microsoft’s consoles, hardware redesigns, and major peripherals.
The Beginning Part : Begin Harder
The year is 2003, and Microsoft wants to get ready for a next generation of gaming. Theyve got some ideas in the pipeline for a successor console that will be bigger, better and boxier than the original device. Some of the names thrown around for this console were the Xbox Next, Xenon, Xbox 2, Xbox FS or NextBox, before Xbox 360 was chosen as the final designation.
With an ATI graphics card deal in place, headhunting for top executives to help steer the project and courting numerous developers to develop for it, Microsoft meant business this time around with the sequel console. The development itself was also shrouded in secrecy, with Microsofts David Shippy and Mickie Phipps remarking that IBM employees had to hide their work from the prying eyes of Sony, as PlayStation was also in bed with IBM for the Cell Processor on the PlayStation 3 console.

A Merger Of Two Giants
There is no question that Bill Gates is a smart businessman. He has built an empire that continues to play a major part in computer hardware and software development and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Hed always loved gaming and so when it came time to make his own console he went to a company with knowledge for help.
Bill Gates wanted to make a console that truly bridged the gap between PC and console gaming.
Though Microsoft had a ton of experience with computers, they didnt know much about the game console market and so Bill Gates thought that partnering with a giant like Sony was the best option. Though he thought that he had a good business model to entice Sony with, the console giant turned down his proposal. From that point on he set out to crush the company, even nicknaming the console project Midway.
A New Toy And A New Look
In both 2009 and 2010, June proved to be an important month for the 360. First, the motion- and voice-control peripheral that would eventually become Kinect was announced in June 2009 at that years E3 convention. Originally labeled Project Natal , the device was expected to revolutionize the way 360 owners interacted with both their console and the media connected with it. The Kinect arrived on shelves in November of that year.
One year after the Kinect was announced, Microsoft announced that the Xbox 360 would be getting a major redesign, with a thinner body, upgraded internal specs, additional USB ports, and built-in Wi-Fi. The Xbox 360 S hit shelves a few days later on June 18, 2010.

An Iconic Title That Almost Wasnt
I know that theres one title that I will always remember from the original Xbox and that is Halo. I spent countless hours playing and replaying the campaign and battling it out with others in multiplayer matches. My love was so great for the original game in fact that I bought it again when it was released for the PC. Being the iconic title that helped to catapult Microsoft into the console war wasnt always Bungies idea though.
As a matter of fact, they had originally made plans to simply release it on the Mac, but decided to offer the company up to Microsoft because they felt that it would take games more seriously. It worked and Bill Gates bought the company, ensuring that one of the greatest titles ever made would be an Xbox exclusive. Creative differences almost doomed the project though as Bungie had created something similar to Destiny before switching to an FPS at Microsofts request.
Formal Announcement And Release

The Xbox was officially unveiled to the public by Gates and guest professional wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson at CES 2001 in Las Vegas on January 3, 2001. Microsoft announced Xbox’s release dates and prices at E3 2001 in May. Most Xbox launch titles were unveiled at E3, most notably Halo and Dead or Alive 3.
The unit’s release in November 2001 was partially hampered by the impact of the on travel, as Microsoft could not travel to the Guadalajara facility to help test units. They were able to arrange to ship the units locally instead of testing at Microsoft facilities to have them ready for launch.
The system was officially launched at midnight on November 15, 2001, three days before the subsequent launch of the Nintendo GameCube. A special event was held on the prior night as part of the grand opening of the flagship store of Toys ‘R’ Us at Times Square in New York City, in which 1,000 systems were shipped to the store to kick off sales. Bill Gates was present at the event, personally selling the first system and greeting people in line and playing games with them at the numerous display units present.

Why Did The Xbox Get Released Before Ps5
There’s no galaxy-brain explanation for the minor discrepancy, and for all intents and purposes the consoles are hitting the market at the same time. The goal for Microsoft and Sony is to reach consumers well before the holiday season with enough time to build up substantial inventory to meet demand as much as possible. Both companies have accomplished that, even if Microsoft holds the slightest of head starts.
Based on the explosive success of the gaming industry overall in 2020, both companies should expect big-time sales numbers. A BBC report this past week included an analysis suggesting each console would sell more than 13 million units before the start of 2022.
Some Weird Contingency Plans
When we watch something like E3 we often dont think about all the things that could go wrong during a showcase. Most of the time, products are still in their developmental stages when they are presented. This means that companies are well aware that anything could go wrong with the system they are presenting at any moment.
At E3, Microsoft had a backup player underneath the stage during the presentation.
In those days and even now, its not uncommon to have a employee follow along with the gameplay in order to ensure a seamless switch if something go wrong. The particular position of the employee during the companys Xbox launch was due to the fact that they didnt have any place backstage where the employee could watch the gameplay. Even with this in place, the company also employed the use of pre-recorded demos as a second backup option.

How Many Xbox 360s Have Been Sold In The Us
In May 2008 Microsoft announced that 10 million Xbox 360s had been sold and that it was the first current generation gaming console to surpass the 10 million figure in the US. In the US, the Xbox 360 was the leader in current-generation home console sales until June 2008, when it was surpassed by the Wii.
New Features And Differences
Despite being a new model, the Xbox 360 E doesn’t really have many new features compared to the Xbox 360 S.
When the console was announced, Microsoft stated that it would run quieter and cooler compared to the original Xbox 360 and the slimmer redesign, the Xbox 360 S.
The console is slightly smaller than its predecessor the Xbox 360 S. The Xbox 360 E has also been completely redesigned on the outside to match its successor, the Xbox One.
Another major difference is the absence of multi-AV out port. Instead, what’s left is a jack for a 1/8-inch breakout AV cable. A cable for a composite connection comes in the box, but you’ll need to find a component one for HD.
Microsoft has also removed some of the versatile connection interfaces that were present on the Xbox 360 S. This includes the dedicated optical audio-out found on earlier Xbox 360 models. This means the only way to get surround sound on the Xbox 360 E is through a HDMI connection.
Another loss for the Xbox 360 E is one of its USB ports. This means that in total the 360 E only has 4 USB ports compared to 5 on older models.
The touch power and eject buttons from the 360 S have also been replaced with more-traditional physical buttons.
