Ram Subsystem And Bandwidth

Once we leave the CPU and GPU, the hardware specs of the Xbox One and PS4;begin;to diverge, with the RAM being the most notable difference. While both consoles are outfitted with 8GB of RAM, the PS4 opts for 5500MHz GDDR5 RAM, while the Xbox One uses the more PC-like 2133MHz DDR3 RAM. This leads to a massive bandwidth advantage in favor of the PS4. The PS4s CPU and GPU have 176GB/s of bandwidth to system RAM, while the Xbox One has just 68.3GB/s.

Xbox One SoC block diagram. The 32MB of ESRAM is at the bottom.

In Microsofts favor, the Xbox One has 32MB of super-fast embedded SRAM . When ESRAM is used properly, as a cache, then the huge difference in main system RAM bandwidth can be ameliorated.

The Xbox One X has more power than the PlayStation 4 Pro, but Sony fights back with an incredible game lineup and a lower price.

Both focus on 4K gaming and streaming, but there are plenty of differences. In our Xbox One X vs PS4 Pro showdown, we put the two consoles through 10 rounds of combat to help you figure out which one you should get.

Although both consoles are now in their twilight years, with the Xbox Series X and PS5 looming over the horizon, there’s still reason to look at buying these consoles today. They’re actually available to purchase for one, and with many game devs promising your new purchases on this generation will carry over to the next, buying one of these will still give you an up-to-date gaming experience for a few years yet.

Xbox One Vs Playstation : Which Game Console Is Best

Its been two years since the Xbox One and PS4 debuted here in the U.S. In that time, theyve both earned their keep as the bearer of current-generation game consoles. Microsoft realized some months after release that it needed a $400, price-competitive version with the PS4 that lacked the Kinect camera, and has since remedied what was once a bit of a lopsided, apples-and-oranges comparison.

Since then, both the Xbox One;and PS4 have sold pretty well, with the edge on Sonys side although Januarys $50 price cut for the Kinect-less Xbox One helped Microsoft catch up. Both companies have released various bundles that may throw the price advantage in one direction or the other depending on whether you want whats in a given bundle. That said, how do the two consoles directly compare with each other? If youre thinking about buying one of these two consolesor just want ammunition for bragging rightsheres what you need to know.

One note before we get started: Unlike all previous console generations, the PS4 and Xbox One are almost identical hardware-wise. With an x86 AMD APU at the heart of each, the Sony and Microsoft consoles are essentially PCs and their hardware specs, and thus relative performance, can be compared in the same way you would compare two x86-based laptops or ARM-based Android tablets. Read on for our Xbox One-versus-PS4 hardware specs comparison.

Reasons To Choose Playstation 4 Over Xbox One

While the Nintendo Switch has been carving out a nice niche for itself, everyone knows that serious console gaming still comes down to PlayStation vs. Xbox. The PlayStation 4 has enjoyed overwhelming success over the Xbox One since both consoles launched back in 2013, with the PS4 outselling its competitor by a ratio of about 2:1. A few years ago, if youd asked me which console to pick up, I would have immediately suggested the PS4 and left it at that, as Sonys console was clearly better at that point in time.

However, Microsoft has slowly but surely turned the Xbox One into a significantly better product in recent years thanks to a number of back end changes, two significant hardware upgrades, and an overall refocus on games ever since Phil Spencer took over as the Head of Xbox. In other words, the question of whether you should purchase a PS4 or Xbox One has become much more complicated than it used to be and now there are compelling reasons for owning both systems. Weve already taken a look at why you might want to choose the Xbox One, but today were going to take the other position and advocate for why you should pick the PS4 instead.

Ps4 Pro Vs Xbox One X: Online Experience

No matter which of the two consoles you get, youll have to pay to play online. For Xbox One X, you’ll use Xbox Live to do that, and it costs $59.99 annually or $9.99 per month. Sonys PlayStation Plus is the same price. Both systems require those respective services for you to play online. Each offers two free game downloads per month and sales on a wide variety of older titles.

Xbox Live has proved to be more stable over the years, and PlayStation Plus still has some stains on its reputation from a highly publicized hacking back in 2011, as well as some high-profile outages.

You can access PlayStation Plus free games on your PS4, PS3 and Vita, but youll have to play them separately on each system. Xboxs Games with Gold program goes only as far back as the Xbox 360, but you can play any of them on the Xbox One X thanks to the backward compatibility.

Sony offers gamers 10GB of cloud storage for game saves with PS Plus, while Microsoft gives unlimited cloud storage even if you dont sign up for Xbox Live Gold.

Winner: Xbox One X. Xbox Live is more stable and offers more cloud storage.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Price

Which is better PS4 or XBOX ONE

The Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are identically priced, coming in at £449 . But you’ll struggle to get either at their recommended retail price, as stock has been scarce since launch, and whenever extra consoles appear they’re snapped up faster than most people can pull their credit card from their wallet.

The bad news? Stock shortages of the Xbox Series X are expected to last until at least June.

We’d never recommend paying over the odds for a marked-up console, but if you really are determined you’ll find that the Xbox Series X costs a fair bit less than the PS5. Of the two very in-demand consoles, it seems the PS5 is the most in-demand.

There are more affordable, disc-less versions of each console available. The Xbox Series S costs just £249 , while the PS5 Digital Edition is quite a lot more expensive, at £359 .

It’s worth bearing in mind, though, that the PS5 Digital Edition is simply a standard PS5 with the disc drive removed, whereas the Xbox Series S has a number of performance downgrades when compared to the Xbox Series X. In other words, the two disc-less next-gen consoles aren’t really designed to compete directly with one another.

The Best Ps4 And Xbox One Games

  • Both consoles have some great exclusive games.
  • Sonys exclusives have tended to be third-person games, while Microsoft has seen a number of high-profile racing exclusives.

Both the PS4 and Xbox One now have substantial games libraries. The PS4 has just over 1,800 titles, of which over 500 are exclusives or console exclusives, while the Xbox One has about 1,600 games with under half the number of exclusives than the PS4.

The Halo and Gears of War series stand above all others on Xbox One if youre into shooter games, and Cuphead features some fantastic, colorful boss battle action. Halo: The Master Chief Collection lets us relive all the old classics, although the experience was somewhat spoiled by a number of technical problems that have never been fully solved.;

But, its with its exclusive racing games that the Xbox One really excels, with Forza Motorsport 7 and Forza Horizon 3 being excellent entries in the series.

One Xbox One game on the horizon that were excited to play is Halo Infinite, which is sure to be one of the best games on the Xbox One.

Microsofts number of exclusives pales compares to Sony, though the former is clearly making a concerted effort to amend this with the creation of five new gaming studios.

Finally, remakes of The Last of Us and Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy round out what is a very impressive series of PS4 exclusives but, trust us, there are plenty more where those came from.;

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Games

This new console generation is unlike any other, in that for all but a tiny number of cases, you don’t need to buy a new console in order to play the new games.

In fact, to the best of our knowledge, there’s not a single Xbox Series X game that can’t also be played on Xbox One. If there’s one that we’ve missed somehow, it’s not one that’s worth playing.

It’s almost the same story with the PS5, but not quite. While practically every game available on the PS5 is also available on PS4, there are currently three notable exceptions in the form of the free/pre-installed Astro’s Playroom, the new and excellent remake of Demon’s Souls, and the spectacular-if-shallow Godfall.

The Xbox Series X also suffers slightly when you look at which new games are available to only one of the next-gen consoles. Of the new games released at the tail-end of 2020, none of note can be played on Xbox Series X and not on PS5. The high-profile delay of Halo Infinite has proved very costly.

That’s not to say that the PS5 is flooded with exclusives, but the three mentioned above, plus the excellent Spider-Man: Miles Morales, are easily some of the best PS5 games and give it an easy win in this regard.

Ultimately, this is a very tricky round to call. The PS5 wins in terms of exclusives both new and existing, but the Xbox Game Pass really is an amazing offering. We’re calling it a draw.

Ps4 Pro Vs Xbox One X Price And Release Date

PS4 Pro launched in November 2016, retailing at £349.99. Sonys upgraded console is pretty good value considering its specs.

The Xbox One X, launched on 7 November, 2017 for £449/$499. Thats not a massive leap up from the PS4 Pro, but it is still a jump that some people might not be willing to make.

Xbox One Vs Ps: Hardware

Clash of the Titans : X

The PS4 Slim and Xbox One S are both impressively sleek, offering attractive designs that look great under a TV and can fit into a backpack without a problem. The newest PS4 has a slight edge in terms of sheer smallness, though it lacks an optical input for high-end gaming headsets.;

Sony’s 4K-ready PS4 Pro has a chunkier, hamburger-like design, while the Xbox One X, which is even more powerful than the Pro, is somehow slimmer than the Xbox One S.

Both consoles start with 500GB of storage that you can easily expand by connecting one of the best external hard drives for PS4 and Xbox One. PS4 owners also have the option of opening up their consoles to swap in a new 2.5-inch or SATA drive.

Each controller has its perks the Xbox One pad has textured grips and can be customized via the Xbox Design Lab, while Sony’s DualShock 4 is highly ergonomic and has a touchpad and reactive lightbar. The PS4 controller is the only one that supports micro USB charging right out of the box Xbox One owners will need to rely on AA batteries or buy a $25 charging kit.

Thanks to the $299 PlayStation VR headset, PS4 is the only of the two consoles to currently support virtual reality. The PSVR’s game lineup has grown quite compelling over the years, too, headlined by such major titles as Tetris Effect, Resident Evil 7, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission and Moss.

There’s currently no equivalent for Xbox One, and it doesn’t look like Microsoft plans to bring VR to Xbox anytime soon.

Xbox One S Vs Ps: Controllers

In our opinion, the Xbox 360 controller was the best of its generation, and Microsoft managed to make a number of improvements on its Xbox One equivalent.

The headline feature has to be refined vibration control, with extra rumble motors for the left and right triggers providing fingertip feedback linked to in-game actions, such as pulling a trigger or squeezing the accelerator. It really works and gives you useful feedback rather than just fairground-esque effects.

The rest of the controller is great, especially the improved D-pad, although the redesigned shoulder buttons and slightly smaller analogue sticks aren’t to everyone’s taste.

The PS4 controller, DualShock 4, has certainly come on in leaps and bounds from its predecessor. It’s more comfortable to hold, the sticks are much improved with greater resistance and precision, plus the triggers feel more responsive than the spongy messes on the DualShock 3.

The stand out feature on the PS4 pad is the small touchpad. This allows for touch controls in games, swipes and the like, plus easier navigation when using a cursor . The whole pad also acts like a button and can be clicked in four different directions. A light bar on the back lets the PS4 camera detect multiple controllers too.

Winner Xbox One S

It’s partly down to what you’re used to, but the Xbox One controller has the edge for us with a proven design and those new rumble motors.
