Within my son’s Epic Games account he currently has a connection to his Switch. When I try to link to his new box I want it to connect to his xbox account, but instead it connects to my xbox account and at no point does it ask which box account to link to!

The latest update from the team suggests it’s more far-reaching than just log in problems, including issues purchasing games and hopping into Xbox Live parties as well.

With the problems only getting worse, we expect Xbox Live servers will be down for hours more.

No Xbox Live Online Content Is Available

If you can sign into your account without trouble but cant access any Xbox Live content, especially online content, there are a few things you can try to fix the problem.

First, try a full reboot. You can shut down your Xbox directly from the controller , but we suggest a hard reset instead, since this tends to resolve issues more reliably. Hold down the power button on the front of your console for at least 10 seconds, until it shuts off. Now disconnect the power cable from the Xbox, wait for another 10 seconds, and reconnect, then restart. Your Xbox will take a minute to fully boot up again, and you can see if this fixes the problem.

You may also want to test your internet connection. Press the Xbox button on your controller when signed into Xbox Live, then go to Profile and System to the right, choose Settings, and in the General section, visit Network Settings. Look for the option to Test network connection. Xbox Live will run this test and report if it can connect successfully or not. If it reports a problem, then your internet has an issue. Xbox may provide more detailed information you can use to troubleshoot this issue, but its a good idea to check your cable connections, reboot your router if necessary, and see if your local internet is having any issues.

When you put a disc in the consoles optical drive, it makes a grinding sound. An error message then reads, Sorry we cant play that disc. Try an Xbox One game, music CD, or a movie on a Blu-ray or DVD. Thankfully, the issue is only present on the original Xbox One.

Possible solutions:

Microsoft has addressed this particular issue multiple times and confirmed that owners can return the hardware. You can always try to repair it yourself if you are familiar with optical drives, but youll void your warranty in the process. If you are suffering from this problem, your options are limited.

• Return the hardware to where you purchased it. Microsoft addressed this problem with launch units by giving out free games to those affected. It doesnt appear that the promotion is still active, but if youre hearing grinding in the disk drive, you can still probably return your console. If buying secondhand, always make sure to check the disc drive.
• Contact Microsoft directly using one of the contact methods above. The companys support team is arranging replacements, and in some cases will ship a new console with a game of your choice to you before you send your system in.

I Cant Capture The Content That I Want

To capture what just happened, press the Xbox button and press the X button, which will automatically capture the last 30 seconds for you. If you want to capture a longer period of time, press the View button and choose what period you want to capture, up to two minutes.

To record what you will be doing, press the Xbox button, choose Capture & share, and select Start recording. Open the guide again and press X to stop recording whenever you want. You can usually record for up to 10 minutes if you have room to store the video file.

Xbox Live Outage Cut Off Players For Over Six Hours

Just as the folks at Sony preview the future with their latest State of Play event, Xbox players are unable to login at all, as the online service is suffering a major outage. The latest update from 5 PM ET indicates Microsoft is working on the issue, but doesn’t provide any kind of ETA for when it will be resolved. According to the Xbox Live Status page, the outage started around 3:15 PM ET, and there’s no sign yet of anything getting better.

Update: As of 5:10 PM ET the status page’s latest update says “we’re close to resolving the issue,” so hang in there.

Update 2: 15 minutes later, and the status is still “close” so hopefully playing offline is working for you, otherwise even single player games are out of the question for now.

Update 3 : It’s been nearly three hours, and while the status still says a resolution is close, everything is still offline.

Update 4 : Nearly five hours after the outage began and it’s still going, meanwhile the status page has updated its message to say “It’s taking longer than anticipated.”

Update 5 : The message has been updated again to note a resolution is close, and many reports on social media show players are able to login again after restarting their systems.

Update 6 : The status page shows “all clear” and people seem to be able to play again, if you’re still not connecting try restarting first.

$10 Per Month Or $60 Per Year

Xbox Live Gold is the online subscription service that started in 2002 for the original Xbox, and it allowed players to play multiplayer games online with voice chat. Since then it has offered more benefits such as special discounts and four free games monthly. A subscription for Xbox Live Gold costs $10 per month .

Adding to the nomenclature confusion: The online network has heretofore been known as Xbox Live, but will soon be changing its name to “Xbox network.” But it appears that Xbox Live Gold isn’t going anywhere.

For now, you need Xbox Live Gold to play any online multiplayer games. But recently, it appears Microsoft might change the rules to allow Xbox gamers to play free-to-play games online such as Fortnite and Apex Legends.

Sharing Games And Buying Used Games

As they developed the Xbox One, Microsoft believed that the future of physical media was dim. In the future, people would just buy games directly from a digital store, download it to their hard drives, and never see a disc in the first place. Microsoft decided to get ahead of the curve and introduce some features that a digital-only world could provide. Most notably, a game tied to a specific Xbox Live account could be downloaded and played on multiple machines, so if you had two houses for instance, your game would be available at both, all the time. This was a feature long-available on PC that would finally be coming to consoles. Neat!

Did Microsoft do this right? Of course not.

Microsoft didn’t provide any replacement for a disc’s simple ability to be shared between friends. In the Xbox One’s proposed system, nobody could borrow a game from anybodyever. Worse, this meant a complete and total halt to the entire used games market, in which players were free to sell their game discs to a friend or a secondhand retailer. Players vocally declared their support of both: they loved sharing games with friends, and many consumers bought their games used. Microsoft gave no real explanation for why these features were being removed, leaving gamers to assume this was all meant as a way to funnel more money towards Microsoft’s digital store, as well as to keep more money flowing directly to game studios, who don’t see any profits from used game sales.
