Should I Get Xbox Live Gold Or Xbox Game Pass
This depends on your gaming habits. Xbox Live Gold’s biggest selling point is not the free games, but it’s being able to play online. Are you someone who is going to play a few games online and only those games on a regular basis? Then you’ll want Xbox Live Gold.
On the other hand, if you want what is the equivalent to “Netflix for video games,” then Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is an easy choice. You have more than 100 games to choose from, and you’ll be able to play them from multiple devices. Tack on Xbox Live Gold, and you get a tremendous value for $15 a month. Put another way, you get to play dozens of games per year for the price of just three new console games purchased at retail .

Epic Games Connects To The Wrong Xbox Account
Within my son’s Epic Games account he currently has a connection to his Switch. When I try to link to his new box I want it to connect to his xbox account, but instead it connects to my xbox account and at no point does it ask which box account to link to!
We have a family Microsoft account where I have 2 son’s listed. Both son’s devices are pointing at the same box! Surely, they should be pointing to their own box? When I goto devices then I have an xbox and the family has an xbox, but it should have 2!
How can I link my sone’s Epic games account to his own xbox account?
The European Commissions June 2007 Investigation Of Disc Scratches
On June 1, 2007, European Commissioner for Consumer ProtectionMeglena Kuneva, after talking with the producers of “Kassa” and other Dutch consumer organizations, announced that the European Commission would investigate the Xbox scratching problems, and would ask Microsoft for an Xbox replacement program for the whole of Europe. She expected Microsoft’s answer within a week. Informal sources now say that Microsoft’s response was to deny the problem exists, stating that “the users are to blame”. But Kuneva did not react to that response, and 18 months later the EC’s news site was still silent about Microsoft’s response, or about the result of the “investigation”.

This often indicates that your NAT setting is too restrictive. Changing your NAT type to open is the best way to solve this: You can see your NAT type in Network settings on your Xbox at any time. Changing it is a little more complicated, because it varies based on the router you have. Generally, you will need to visit your router or internet connection settings, and look for an option to enable UPnP, or Universal Plug and Play. This should switch your NAT type to open. Xbox has more information that may be able to help you in this process.
Stuck On Splash Screen
When fully booting, the Xbox One can take a long time up to 10 minutes, in fact. Were referring to turning on your Xbox One from being completely powered off, not from rest mode. When booting, a green screen with the Xbox logo will hang for a few minutes before the UI comes up. If youve been waiting 10 minutes or longer, youll need to perform a hard reset.
Before getting to the hard reset, note that doing so will erase all accounts, save data, and any other data stored on the system. If youre an Xbox Live Gold member, your save data is probably in the cloud. If you havent had a chance to sync it yet, try powering down the console by holding the Xbox button on the console for 10 seconds. Then, if you have access, sync or back up your save data before performing the reset. Otherwise:

Xbox One Console Problem
An issue with the console itself may cause slow or intermittent connection problems. The reason for this situation can vary depending on the condition of your Xbox One software or hardware.
If you dont connect your console to the internet all the time, be sure to keep its games and software updated to lessen the chances of software glitches.
For the hardware, you must treat your Xbox One console like your phone. The internal components can easily break down if the console is regularly exposed to elements or hit by something hard .
A Glitch In Your Home Networking Device
Some Xbox One connection problems are due to an issue with your modem or router. Routers with outdated firmware may not work as expected until you update.
In some cases, physical damage to the modem or router may lead to total internet connection blackout.
You can troubleshoot your home equipment if theres no Xbox Live server issues going on at this time.

Xbox Team Still Working On Fix
Xbox Live server issues have continued for hours, and the Microsoft team is still looking to find a fix for the issue.
The latest update from the team suggests it’s more far-reaching than just log in problems, including issues purchasing games and hopping into Xbox Live parties as well.
With the problems only getting worse, we expect Xbox Live servers will be down for hours more.
No Xbox Live Online Content Is Available
If you can sign into your account without trouble but cant access any Xbox Live content, especially online content, there are a few things you can try to fix the problem.
First, try a full reboot. You can shut down your Xbox directly from the controller , but we suggest a hard reset instead, since this tends to resolve issues more reliably. Hold down the power button on the front of your console for at least 10 seconds, until it shuts off. Now disconnect the power cable from the Xbox, wait for another 10 seconds, and reconnect, then restart. Your Xbox will take a minute to fully boot up again, and you can see if this fixes the problem.
You may also want to test your internet connection. Press the Xbox button on your controller when signed into Xbox Live, then go to Profile and System to the right, choose Settings, and in the General section, visit Network Settings. Look for the option to Test network connection. Xbox Live will run this test and report if it can connect successfully or not. If it reports a problem, then your internet has an issue. Xbox may provide more detailed information you can use to troubleshoot this issue, but its a good idea to check your cable connections, reboot your router if necessary, and see if your local internet is having any issues.

Cant Connect To Xbox Live
In this case, Xbox Live is up and running, but you cant connect and you arent getting any helpful error codes. There are two things to try to see if your connection needs to be fixed.
Check your IP settings: Visit Settings under Profile and System, and select Network settings in the General section. Now choose Advanced settings from the list. Here, look for IP Settings: Select it and make sure the settings are turned to Automatic. Restart your console and see if this helps.
Check your firewall settings: Your router or gateway may have firewall settings that are preventing a proper Xbox Live connection, especially if you recently replaced these devices. Check for any built-in firewalls by visiting device settings, and disable them to see if this makes a difference.
How To Fix Xbox One Connection Problems
When Xbox Live sign-in is online, here’s how you can test your internet and reconnect. The black magic of networking leaves hundreds of possible causes, though some common troubleshooting steps could find your remedy.
While Xbox Live may appear fully functional, the service can experience brief hiccups, even with regional snags affecting small groups of users. These outages often slip past unnoticed but could be the root of temporary problems. We advise restarting your Xbox One, which will reattempt a connection to Xbox Live.
If your Xbox One remains offline, your home networking setup could be facing issues. The Xbox One’s integrated connection testing tool helps diagnose any problems and provides guidance to a solution.

Xbox One Cannot Properly Read Discs
While it isnt as disturbing as hearing a disc grinding in your console, an Xbox One that doesnt read discs is not ideal, especially if your library primarily consists of physical games. Some users have reported consoles that fail to read certain games, or even have a widespread problem with reading all discs.
Luckily, isolated disc errors arent always brought on by damaged discs, and if your disc drive is having issues reading your games, it doesnt necessarily mean your console is shot. If neither of the solutions below work, however, you may need to call Microsoft or take the disc in question back to your retailer if its under warranty.
Disc Drive Makes Grinding Sound
This problem is something that a number of Xbox One users have reported, but thankfully, they also report that it doesnt actually damage the disc. When you put a disc in the consoles optical drive, it makes a grinding sound. An error message then reads, Sorry we cant play that disc. Try an Xbox One game, music CD, or a movie on a Blu-ray or DVD. Thankfully, the issue is only present on the original Xbox One.
Microsoft has addressed this particular issue multiple times and confirmed that owners can return the hardware. You can always try to repair it yourself if you are familiar with optical drives, but youll void your warranty in the process. If you are suffering from this problem, your options are limited.
- Return the hardware to where you purchased it. Microsoft addressed this problem with launch units by giving out free games to those affected. It doesnt appear that the promotion is still active, but if youre hearing grinding in the disk drive, you can still probably return your console. If buying secondhand, always make sure to check the disc drive.
- Contact Microsoft directly using one of the contact methods above. The companys support team is arranging replacements, and in some cases will ship a new console with a game of your choice to you before you send your system in.

Xbox Live Outage Cut Off Players For Over Six Hours
Just as the folks at Sony preview the future with their latest State of Play event, Xbox players are unable to login at all, as the online service is suffering a major outage. The latest update from 5 PM ET indicates Microsoft is working on the issue, but doesn’t provide any kind of ETA for when it will be resolved. According to the Xbox Live Status page, the outage started around 3:15 PM ET, and there’s no sign yet of anything getting better.
Update: As of 5:10 PM ET the status page’s latest update says “we’re close to resolving the issue,” so hang in there.
Update 2: 15 minutes later, and the status is still “close” so hopefully playing offline is working for you, otherwise even single player games are out of the question for now.
Update 3 : It’s been nearly three hours, and while the status still says a resolution is close, everything is still offline.
Update 4 : Nearly five hours after the outage began and it’s still going, meanwhile the status page has updated its message to say “It’s taking longer than anticipated.”
Update 5 : The message has been updated again to note a resolution is close, and many reports on social media show players are able to login again after restarting their systems.
Update 6 : The status page shows “all clear” and people seem to be able to play again, if you’re still not connecting try restarting first.

$10 Per Month Or $60 Per Year
Xbox Live Gold is the online subscription service that started in 2002 for the original Xbox, and it allowed players to play multiplayer games online with voice chat. Since then it has offered more benefits such as special discounts and four free games monthly. A subscription for Xbox Live Gold costs $10 per month .
Adding to the nomenclature confusion: The online network has heretofore been known as Xbox Live, but will soon be changing its name to “Xbox network.” But it appears that Xbox Live Gold isn’t going anywhere.
For now, you need Xbox Live Gold to play any online multiplayer games. But recently, it appears Microsoft might change the rules to allow Xbox gamers to play free-to-play games online such as Fortnite and Apex Legends.
But here’s the important takeaway: Xbox Game Pass includes Xbox Live Gold, and adds access to dozens of games, too. Anyone interested in Gold should check out Game Pass first.
Xbox Live Broken What Are Users Saying
Angry Xbox owners have taken to Twitter to complain about the outage.
One wrote: “Why do I keep getting signed out and it’s not letting me connect to Xbox Live???”
Another asked: “Is Xbox Live down on East Coat? . My connection is good, wired, restarted 3 times. Not me.”
And one gamer wrote: “Yo why can’t I play with my brother on Xbox Live, fails to join every time.”

Sharing Games And Buying Used Games
As they developed the Xbox One, Microsoft believed that the future of physical media was dim. In the future, people would just buy games directly from a digital store, download it to their hard drives, and never see a disc in the first place. Microsoft decided to get ahead of the curve and introduce some features that a digital-only world could provide. Most notably, a game tied to a specific Xbox Live account could be downloaded and played on multiple machines, so if you had two houses for instance, your game would be available at both, all the time. This was a feature long-available on PC that would finally be coming to consoles. Neat!
Did Microsoft do this right? Of course not.
Microsoft didn’t provide any replacement for a disc’s simple ability to be shared between friends. In the Xbox One’s proposed system, nobody could borrow a game from anybodyever. Worse, this meant a complete and total halt to the entire used games market, in which players were free to sell their game discs to a friend or a secondhand retailer. Players vocally declared their support of both: they loved sharing games with friends, and many consumers bought their games used. Microsoft gave no real explanation for why these features were being removed, leaving gamers to assume this was all meant as a way to funnel more money towards Microsoft’s digital store, as well as to keep more money flowing directly to game studios, who don’t see any profits from used game sales.
