Menu: “The Menu button will bring up context-specific menus which game and app developers can design to enhance the user experience. The Menu button could be used in scenarios such as bringing up in-game menus, showing video playback options, and accessing commands on the consoles user interface.”

View: The View button “will change views or provide more information in games and apps. Developers will drive the function of the view button. Possible uses of the View button include viewing a map during a role playing game, displaying a leaderboard in a first person shooter, and enhancing the navigation of the console’s user interface.”

    Xbox Series X/s Share Button

If taking loads of screenshots while playing games is your jam, you’ll be pleased to know that the Xbox Series X or S allows you to capture screenshots and record gameplay with the touch of a shiny new button.

For the first time, Xbox controllers have a dedicated that will allow you to record and upload videos and screens with ease. It sits in the middle of the controller, just below where you can find the menu button, so it’s pretty obvious to spot.

If you’ve been both an Xbox and Playstation owner up to this point, you will be familiar with the press/ hold function of the Share button on the PS4 controller to capture images and video. This new Share button works in a similar way, but for the uninitiated, this is how you go about taking a screenshot and recording video on the Xbox Series X/S controller.

Xbox Ones Menu And View Controller Functions Explained

Xbox One includes two new buttons labeled “Menu” and “View” that replace the Xbox 360’s Start and Back buttons and add new functionality, IGN reports.

Speaking with the publication, a Microsoft representative said that the Menu button, located on the right, pulls up context-specific menus. These menus are used by game and app developers to “enhance the user experience.”

“The Menu button could be used in scenarios such as bringing up in-game menus, showing video playback options and accessing commands on the console’s user interface,” Microsoft told IGN.

The View button’s functionality can change depending on how developers utilize it. The button is meant to provide more information on apps or gameplay.

“Possible uses of the View button include viewing a map during a role-playing game, displaying a leaderboard in a first-person shooter and enhancing the navigation of the console’s user interface,” Microsoft said.

Xbox One was unveiled during Microsoft’s event last week. The new system will not support Xbox 360 controllers. You can check out our hands-on experience with the controller here, or read all our current coverage through our StoryStream.

    Initial Unveiling And Launch

Prior to the official unveiling, a rumor had circulated that the next Xbox console would be an “always on” system requiring a persistent Internet connection, though Microsoft had not confirmed this. This had drawn some concerns from consumers, which were heightened when Microsoft Studios employee Adam Orth stated in a message in April 2013 that said, “Sorry, I don’t get the drama around having an ‘always on’ console…Every device now is ‘always on.’ That’s the world we live in. #dealwithit”. Orth’s message drew further ire towards Microsoft, with concerns about digital rights management and practices against the sale of used games with an “always on” unit. Orth opted to leave Microsoft a few days later due to the backlash. Despite Microsoft’s statements following the situation, denying the rumors, the mood it created lingered over the next several months.

In response to these pre-launch changes and a belief that Microsoft’s initial decisions for the console were in poor judgement, journalists and consumers jokingly gave the Xbox One nicknames such as the “Xbox 180”, in reference to the Xbox 360 and Microsoft’s decision to reverse its controversial decisions, and “Xbone”, suggesting that the company was “throwing a bone” to consumers by making these changes.

Pairing Your Controller With A Pc Mac And More

You can also pair your controller with other devices such as a Windows PC, Mac, and more via a standard Bluetooth connection. The process is similar to pairing with an Xbox, but youll likely have to adapt some steps depending on the device.

In general, though, to pair your controller with another device, press and hold the pairing button along the top edge near the battery compartment. Youll know your controller is in pairing mode when the Xbox logo flashes rapidly.

You now have 20 seconds to pair your controller with the device you want to use. Open the Bluetooth pairing interface on the device, and then select the controller. It should immediately pair if its compatible.

Youll have to do this if you want to play Xbox games remotely on your smartphone. Note that the Xbox Series X and S controller currently isnt compatible with the iPhone or iPad natively, so they will refuse to pair.

Microsoft has promised a future update will add support for Apple devices, but youll have to connect your controller to an Xbox to apply the update.
