Xbox Series X: Price Release Date Games Specs And News
Everything we know about Xbox Series X, including latest news, release date, specs, price, games, and much more!
Microsoft has revealed the next Xbox. Previously known as Xbox Scarlett, the new console is called the Xbox Series X. According to the company, the Xbox Series X is designed to be Microsofts fastest, most powerful console ever. You can see an image of the console above, as revealed during 2019 Game Awards. For those wondering, while the console was first unveiled in an upright position, the Xbox Series X will support both vertical and horizontal orientation.
The Xbox Series X will also be compatible with thousands of your favorite games across four generations of gaming, all your Xbox One gaming accessories, and industry-leading services like Xbox Game Pass. Additionally, Microsoft is ensuring that first-party titles from Xbox Game Studios support cross-generation entitlements and that your Achievements and game saves are shared across devices.
The first reports of the Xbox Series X suggested that it was one of two next-gen consoles that Microsoft is working on. The other is reportedly called Xbox Series S, a disc-less version of the next-gen console to rival the PlayStation 5s Digital Edition option. Rumors suggest that Microsoft will unveil this second console in August.

Heres everything else we know about Xbox Series X:
Forza Motorsport For Xbox Series X Will Run In 4k At 60 Fps Have Ray Tracing
Microsoft’s bringing back Quick Resume, a feature it introduced and then deprecated about five years ago. Previously, it allowed you to suspend a single game and pick it up exactly where you left off, but now it will be able to do so for multiple games. Both Xbox consoles also incorporate a new Family Settings app to provide parents with control over screen time, content filtering and more.
With all these upgraded specs, we also have no idea of how much the carbon footprint will change — despite rumors to the contrary, Microsoft hasn’t made over a quarter of a million carbon-neutral Xbox Series X consoles.
Xbox Series X Vs Series S
The Xbox Series X isnt the only console in the new Xbox lineup, with the cheaper all-digital Xbox Series S also now available. It doesnt have quite the same raw power, but it might be a much better buy for gamers on a budget .
The Xbox Series S has the same CPU as the Xbox Series X, but with a much less powerful GPU. The console is still more powerful than an Xbox One X, but targets 60fps at 1440p instead of native 4K like the Xbox Series X. It can still be upscaled to 4K, and supports framerates of up to 120fps.
The Xbox Series S has all the same features of the Series X, but with less GPU power to target 1440p at 60fps.
Removing the more powerful GPU hardware and the disk drive has enabled the Xbox team to reduce the consoles size by 60% compared to the Xbox Series X. This will make it a much more comfortable fit in most entertainment centers, and it doesnt come at the cost of loud fans or poor heat dispersion.
Apart from the resolution and size, the two consoles share all the same new features mentioned above, like Quick Resume, an upgraded SSD, ray tracing, and more. Its the cheapest way to access next-gen hardware and games, although you wont get pure next-gen resolutions. Check out our full comparison at the article below.

System Software And Features
Both consoles feature a similar user interface to the Xbox One, but there has been a 40% reduction in memory use to improve its speed. According to the UI development team, the Home section loads in about half the time as it did on the Xbox One. Other changes include adding rounded UI elements, a more-readable font for text elements, rearrangement of certain aligned features, and improvements to the sharing functions. These changes were brought to the Xbox One system software, the Windows’ Xbox application, and the Xbox mobile application around September 2020. Based on system previews, about 200 GB of space was reserved on the internal drive of the Xbox Series X for system files.
The console’s Quick Resume feature will allow users to suspend and resume more than one game at a time, and also resume suspended games after a reboot of the console.
Several video and streaming media services will be available through the system software on the consoles’ launch notably, it will be the first time that Apple TV+ will be available on Xbox consoles.
Microsoft plans to migrate the xCloud service from Xbox One S-based blade servers to Xbox Series X-based systems by 2021.
Will Xbox One And Older Games Work On It
Microsoft says yes to backward compatibility, as far as the original Xbox, and that many games will play and look better, thanks to the aforementioned upgrades that apply to every game running on the console. Of course, the devil’s in the details when it comes to compatibility, and those include how saved games and progress transfer, among other things for instance, your game library, progression and entire gaming history comes with you when migrating from Xbox One to Xbox Series X, but saved games aren’t supported from Xbox 360.
Unlike the transition from earlier generations, though, this one should go more smoothly. The new hardware is mostly just faster versions of the previous components, and the last Xbox One operating system also used DirectX 12 and supported HDMI 2.1, or at least there’s nothing that requires emulation or rewriting.

Backwards Compatibility On Xbox Series X
Another of the Xbox Series X’s best features is the breadth of its backwards compatibility. There are well over 1,000 backwards-compatible titles available, meaning youll be hard-pressed to find an older game you have that isnt supported on the Series X.
As mentioned previously, we found these titles loaded faster and simply played better improved stability means fewer frame rate drops, which makes older games feel nicer to play, even if they’re otherwise a little outdated by the standards of modern blockbusters.
This backwards compatibility also extends to Xbox accessories. We found that we could easily connect the original Xbox Wireless Controller and the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 to the Xbox Series X with no issues, and we were also able to connect our headsets.
Any officially licensed Xbox One accessory that connects either wirelessly or via a wired USB connection should work on the Xbox Series X, such as the Xbox Wireless Headset however, its worth noting that optical port connections arent supported, although some of these products may work with a firmware update.
What Will The Xbox Series X Cost
There is now an official price for the “junior-model” of the next Xbox. The Xbox Series X will cost $299 upon release, meaning it will likely be slightly more expensive with added VAT taken into account in the UK.
As mentioned above, the leaked info also revealed a rumoured price tag of $499 for the Xbox Series X on release, which will also run a slightly higher price in the UK.

Second Generation: Xbox 360
The Xbox 360 was released as the successor of the original Xbox in November 2005, competing with Sony‘s PlayStation 3 and Nintendo‘s Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles. As of June 2014, 84 million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold worldwide. The Xbox 360 was officially unveiled on MTV on May 12, 2005, with detailed launch and game information divulged later that month at the Electronic Entertainment Expo . The console sold out completely upon release in all regions except in Japan. Several retail configurations of the core Xbox 360 model were offered over its lifetime, varying the amount of RAM and internal storage offered.
The Xbox 360 showed an expanded Xbox Live service , the ability to stream multimedia content from PCs, while later updates added the ability to purchase and stream music, television programs, and films through the Xbox Music and Xbox Video services, along with access to third-party content services through third-party media streaming applications. Microsoft also released Kinect, a motion control system for the Xbox 360 which uses an advanced sensor system.
The second major revision of the Xbox 360 was the Xbox 360 E, released in 2013. It featured a case style similar to the upcoming Xbox One, and eliminated one USB port and the S/PDIF, YPbPr component and S-video connections, but otherwise shared the same specifications as the Xbox 360 S.
Auto Hdr On Xbox Series X
Like the Xbox One, the Xbox Series X allows for calibration of HDR for games. We’d advise setting this before playing any games, as it ensures the balance of contrast is spot-on, giving you the best visuals possible.
For our initial review, we primarily had access to a selection of backwards-compatible titles which are the best indicator of the boost in performance the Xbox Series X delivers over its last-gen counterparts. With the above settings enabled, we found that the games immediately looked better on the Xbox Series X which isn’t particularly surprising, given that Microsoft has implemented native HDR for these titles.
We go into detail as to how this performance boost improves Xbox Series X Optimized titles further down, but in short, when playing backwards-compatible titles on the Xbox One S and Xbox Series X versions side-by-side we could clearly see the visual upgrade.

Xbox Two Is Called Xbox Series X
After many rumors and leaks, Microsoft confirmed in the middle of the night that the Xbox Series X wouldn’t be the only console launching in November. It was joined by the Series S, an all-digital system with “next-gen performance,” priced at a mere $299! The Xbox Series S launched on November 10th, 2020, alongside the Xbox Series X!
The news in August of 2020 that Halo Infinite would not be a launch title stung a lot for fans, but after the backlash of the graphics shown in the July stream, it seems it could be the right call. Among that news, Microsoft also published a blog post which confirms that the Xbox Series X is launching in November of 2020.
Things also got interesting in August of 2020 when images of a new controller leaked and revealed some new information. Specifically, the box has a sticker that says not to open or sell it before November 6, 2020. Take a look:
Xbox Series X may launch on November 6th. A tipster tells me boxes of the new controllers have a do not open date of November 6th on them. These controllers leaked earlier this week
Apparently some of these controllers went on sale by accident in Chicago, but no one has emerged to explain how that happened. Interestingly, people who managed to snag one of the controllers found out that the warranty, when registered, expires on November 5th, 2021, furthering speculation about an early November release date.
Inside The Xbox Series X
The design is fairly unorthodox for a game console, evoking a bit more of a PC aesthetic than that of a game console. The Xbox Series X is designed to run placed vertically or horizontally, so you don’t worry about having to rebuild the TV stand.
Well what’s on the inside then? Allow us to geek out a bit and compare it with the Xbox One and One X which are currently on the market.
- A specially designed AMD processor
- Radeon RDNA architecture for the graphics card. Support for variable update speeds, ray-tracing in real-time and 8K screen resolutions.
- A NVMe SSD, which essentially means really fast storage, short start times and virtually no loading times at all.
What does the above listed gamer-jargon above mean in a strictly practical sense then? In addition to support for 8K resolutions , according to Microsoft’s Gaming executive Phil Spencer, the Series X should be eight times more powerful than the Xbox One and twice as powerful as the Xbox One X.
Full specifications for the Xbox Series X released in March on Microsofts website:
There’s simply a lot of power to take in for beautiful gaming experiences in large open-world settings.
Microsoft has has also been mentioning that the console is “designed for a future in the cloud”. Even if there isn’t any concrete info yet on what exactly that means, it’s likely going to mean wider selection in both games streamed to the console and playing Xbox games on other platforms, like PCs.

Xbox Series X Ui And Dashboard
While the external design of the Xbox Series X is a considerable departure from its predecessors, the console’s UI and dashboard have undergone more subtle changes.
The Xbox Series X dashboard is pretty much the same as the Xbox Ones. The main reason for this is because Microsoft rolled out a meaty update to the Xbox One back in August 2020 to make its UI more streamlined, and to converge it with that of the Xbox Series X.
That means the Xbox Series X UI still has a tiled layout, with customizable pins, so you can choose which games and apps you want to see first on your home screen, and offers easy access to games, apps, party chat and other features via the Xbox button on your controller. It’s a pretty streamlined interface, and allows for plenty of customization options and easy navigation.
Customization seems to be at the heart of the Xbox Series X UI. In addition to being able to move around your pinned games and apps, Microsoft is also letting players express themselves a bit more with the inclusion of new profile themes that act as a background for your profile page. Players can also now finally use dynamic backgrounds, which offers a more personalized home screen option for those who are bored of the Xbox One’s static offering.
Xbox Series X Price Vs Playstation 5 Price
After many leaks and speculation, Sony confirmed the PS5 Digital and PS5 prices at £360 and £450 respectively. That came as a pleasant surprise to those who’d expected the PS5 to be priced much higher than the rival Xbox Series X.
As it turns out, the full-fat PS5 and Xbox Series X cost the same, although the all-digital Series S undercuts the PS5 Digital Edition by a fair margin of £90 .
Bear in mind, however, that the Xbox Series S is less powerful than the Series X, whereas the PS5 Digital Edition is identical to the standard PS5 except for the lack of a disc drive.
