Is Xbox Series X Better than PS5? – Things Xbox Did Right

The Xbox Series X has support for Dolby Vision in addition to HDR10. Dolby Vision is regarded as the superior HDR format, which is supported while streaming video on the Series X. PS5 lacks this feature, right now its not a big deal, but eventually when games start supporting this feature the Series X might offer more HDR impact. PS5 also cant output 1440p, which means monitors with this resolution are better suited to the Series X, which does support it. Depending on the display, this means PS5 may be limited to 1080p if the monitor cant accept a 4k signal, or when outputting 120hz on HDMI 2.0 displays. The PS5 also has a reduced HDMI 2.1 bandwidth compared to the Series X, meaning outputting a 4K 120hz HDR signal will require the use of chroma subsampling , compared to the lossless RGB output on Xbox.

Theres No Series S Ps5

I think the Xbox Series S makes sense for gamers on a budget. I think it also has one glaring flaw: Its going to be a bottleneck on developers. Yes, Smart Delivery makes this somewhat less of an issue, since devs can essentially create two versions of a game that run at lower resolution and graphical fidelity on the Series S, with a smaller install footprint as well. But theres no telling how this could impact especially third-party games.

Will developers focus more on developing a one-size-fits-all solution? Some might. And that might mean that games will be developed with the lower specs in mind. This could potentially mean the Xbox Series X wont always even take advantage of all that power. Now this is, I think, still in the realm of hypothetical. Maybe it wont be a bottleneck at all. Then again, even game developers are warning about this and they know a thing or two about the subject.

The PS5 also has two versions, but theyre identical in every way except that one doesnt have a disc drive. No PS5 lite means no worries over bottlenecking. Devs can develop to one spec instead of two.

Xbox Series X: Halo Infinite

Every person who ever played games in the early 2000s probably knows at least a little something about the Halo series. Though many hoped that Bungie’s Destiny entries would fill the void, Halo remains its own unique addiction.

Despite the fact that fans blistered at supposedly lackluster graphics, many fans remain vehemently hyped for the release . As they prepare for a new story around everyone’s favorite Spartan, fans can revisit The Master Chief Collection for a trip down memory lane.

Xbox Series X: Game Pass

The game pass is the reel that keeps many on the Xbox, with a total of 200 games available to play so long as you fork out monthly. This is something that Microsoft plans to continue with Series X.

It’s been dubbed by many as Microsoft’s own gaming Netflix, as it gives players an entire library of titles to delve into with a regular payment, rather than having to buy each one individually. If you don’t like something, no hard feelings, as you didn’t buy it anyway.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Which Has Better Games

PS5 " better" than Xbox Series X, according to now ...

Were just going right at it, huh? In this early stage, there are comically few true exclusives for either console. Most of the major third-party games like and Assassins Creed Valhalla are on both platforms and run comparably. And every Xbox Series X game is also playable on PC.

At launch, the Xbox Series Xs big advantage on the games front is Game Pass. For a monthly subscription fee, you get access to a few hundred games from the Xbox One and Xbox 360 era. But Microsoft is also bringing new Xbox Series X games directly to Game Pass on the day they launch , while also updating older games like Gears 5 and Forza Horizon 4 to take advantage of the new hardware.

Looking to the future, Microsoft announced that its new acquisition of Bethesda means those games will also come to Game Pass right when they launch. If youre looking to play a lot of different games, but not looking to spend upwards of $70 on each one, Xbox Series X is a solid option.

The PlayStation 5 also offers its PlayStation Plus subscription service, which grants new free games each month. Recently that service was enhanced with the PlayStation Plus Collection, a pack of 18 excellent games that folks can play as long as they are subscribed to PlayStation Plus. Right now Microsofts Game Pass offering is far more valuable, but we expect Sony to get closer to parity with Microsoft over the next generation.

Playstation 5 Vs Xbox Series X: Which Next

This latest console war is shaping up like no other. Both the competitors for the next-gen crown are superpowered and capable of extraordinary gaming experiences. They also go head-to-head when it comes to high-end AV potential adopting tech that could even be capable of outputting 8K video one day.

However, while their ambitions are similar, they are each quite different in approach and skill set. The Xbox Series X is a more all-round home entertainment machine, capable of playing games at their best, yet also feels like an iterative upgrade to the Xbox One. The PlayStation 5, on the other hand, is more unique and games focused. And, while it can play PS4 titles through backward compatibility, it is more a generational leap.

That makes it tricky to choose between them, which is where we step in. Having played on both extensively, we aim to help you decide on which one to part your hard earned cash looking at their different talents and giving you an idea which might better suit your needs.

Ps5 Dualsense Controller Vs Xbox Wireless Controller: Release Date

As youd expect for new console controllers, both the PS5 DualSense controller and the Xbox Series X controller launched alongside the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S respectively.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Accessories

Just in case forking out hundreds on a shiny new console wasnt enough of an expenditure for you, both consoles also offer a wide selection of accessories. While none of these ancillary products are a requirement for next-gen gaming, they can enhance the experience by expanding on the consoles features

The PlayStation 5 reveal made a big emphasis on the synergy between console and accessories, announcing them all together, with a unified black and white colour system for maximum style. The announcement showcased the PULSE 3D Wireless headset, which is optimised for 3D audio, allowing you to make the most out of the PS5s Tempest 3D AudioTech. For multiplayer, the headset also features dual noise-cancelling microphones, and it charges via a USB-C connection.

Also included in the reveal was a media remote, with dedicated buttons for quick-launching Disney+, Netflix, Spotify and YouTube, a charging station for two DualSense controllers, and an HD camera, which utilises the PS5s background-removing tools for gameplay streaming. For PSVR owners, you can also pick up a free adaptor that lets you use your PSVR camera with the PS5, by entering the serial number of your VR unit here.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Price

XBOX SERIES S is Better than PS5!

Both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X cost $500 apiece. Since the two systems are very similar, this category would seem to be a tie at first glance. However, the standard PS5 and Xbox Series X are not the only variants available. Theres also the $400 PS5 Digital Edition and the $300 Xbox Series S.

The PS5 and the PS5 Digital Edition are identical, save for a 4K Blu-ray physical disc drive in the former. The latter has no disc drive, as the name suggests. On the other hand, the Xbox Series S has significantly different hardware from the Xbox Series X: a less-powerful GPU, a smaller SSD, less RAM and so forth.

As such, both consoles have cheaper variants, and both the PS5 Digital Edition and the Xbox Series S have legitimate applications: the former for digital diehards, the latter for casual players or secondary setups. Still, since the Xbox Series S is a somewhat different system, and not just a console variation, it’s hard to pick a definitive winner. Both full-fledged systems cost the same amount of money that’s the most important thing at the moment.

Xbox Series X Controller Vs Playstation Dualsense

Microsoft builds upon the Xbox One controller, now with added functionality for Xbox Series X.

Microsoft unveiled Xbox Series X alongside the latest revision of its controller, building upon the proven Xbox One design with further enhancements. The signature addition is a new dedicated “Share” button, mimicking the feature popularized by the PlayStation 4’s DualShock and the Nintendo Switch. The key enables fast video and screenshot capture and sharing, building upon the Game DVR from Xbox One.

That pairs with a new hybrid D-Pad inspired by the Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controller, circular-shaped with five defined square surfaces. Textured trigger grips come standard, which makes a huge difference compared to Xbox One.

Speaking with Xbox leadership, GameSpot also detailed an “ever-so-slightly smaller” controller silhouette for Xbox Series X, in response to user research. While a subtle change, Microsoft hoped to nail down ergonomics across the broadest range of Xbox buyers. The proprietary Xbox Wireless protocol also returns, extending efforts to reduce input latency.

Like the Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controller, the Series X controller features USB Type-C however, it takes AA batteries. Rechargeable batteries packs are compatible but optional.

The next PlayStation controller, named the DualSense, introduces new advances in haptics.

Data Throughput The Ps5 Will Load Faster And Support Larger Moredetialed Games

When it comes to what you will really notice when gaming in-game detail, loading times, and game size the PS5 will probably dominatethe Xbox Series X hands down. In fact, it beats the Xbox so bad, that it feelsMicrosoft must have really overlooked this aspect of the Xbox Series X, but letme explain. Data throughput is, basically, the amount of information the consolecan stream. The PS5 has a PCI Express 4.0 data interface that can push 5.5GB ofinformation per second. To put that into perspective, the Xbox Series X canonly push 2.4GB of information per second. That means that the PS5 can streammore data from a world than theSeries X. Because of this, the PS5 will be able to offer bigger, more detailed gamesthat will require virtually no loading time whatsoever. This was explained abit during the initial PS5 talk in which it was said the PS5 will be able toload textures instantaneously as you move so, you know, no sudden blade ofgrass popping into your view, for example.

This is actually a big deal, and could end up being thething that really hurts the Series X, especially when it comes to seriousgaming.

Ps5 Gpu Vs Xbox Series X Gpu A Reminder About Teraflops

For a start there is one area where the Xbox Series X doesnt have an advantage over PS5 and thats in GPU clock speed. To hear Lead System Architect Mark Cerny describe it, its ultimately preferable to have a GPU that is much more nimble than broadly powerful at a basic level.

Speaking to Digital Foundry, Cerny believes that while a teraflop figure might be common across two platforms, the one with the faster clock speed, despite having fewer compute units, would see better results that the teraflop figure would not necessarily represent.

Performance is noticeably different, because teraflops is defined as the computational capability of the vector ALU. Thats just one part of the GPU, there are a lot of other units and those other units all run faster when the GPU frequency is higher. At 33 per cent higher frequency, rasterisation goes 33 per cent faster, processing the command buffer goes that much faster, the L1 and L2 caches have that much higher bandwidth, and so on, Cerny explains in his presentation to Digital Foundry.

And this is the thing while teraflops are an important metric its also important to remember that they are just one aspect of system performance and indeed, just one aspect of GPU performance too.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X: Controllers

Is Xbox Series X better than PS5? What We Know about ...

Both consoles come with natty new controllers, but there’s no denying that the PS5’s new DualSense is the more significant and, ultimately, better of the two.

While most are unlikely to see or even feel the difference, the new Xbox controller is a little smaller than its predecessor, which should make it easier for younger and smaller gamers.

The underside is more prominently textured, too, and that mottled effect has also found its way to the surfaces of the two trigger buttons these are matte rather than glossy, and curve to a less prominent peak. Overall, the new controller is a little easier to grip and more ergonomically advanced, which can only be good.

On the face of the controller is a new Share button, inspired by that of the PS4s DualShock 4. Tap the button to instantly save a screenshot, hold it down for a couple of seconds to capture the last 29 seconds of gameplay. The d-pad, meanwhile, has been tweaked to resemble that of the Elite Controller Series 2. This makes it more useful for games that require sweeping actions , without overly sacrificing the positivity of presses up, down, left or right.

The Series X controller is better than the already excellent controller before it, but not drastically so. We wouldnt recommend rushing out to replace your controllers, and you dont need to either: Xbox One controllers work just fine with the Series X.

More Space For More Games

Both consoles have also attempted to address internal storage issues. With 1TB of space in the Xbox Series X and about 800GB in the PS5, gamers could very quickly hit those limits, with many games taking around 50GB of your console’s space and some coming in at 80GB or higher. Each console tackled this problem in a different way, and neither solution is perfect.

The Xbox Series X and Series S allow non-Series X games to be played from a standard external solid-state drive hooked up via USB-A. Modern Series X games could be stored on the external drive, but you’d have to transfer them back to the internal drive for play.

Why make something universal when you can make it proprietary? Microsoft also created a custom plug-in storage drive that fits into a special port on the back of the system. Technically it’s an external drive, but it behaves like an internal one, and you can both store and play any Series X game on it. So far Seagate is the only company making these drives, and the first version was a $219 1TB drive. If that feels expensive, that’s what happens when you have a proprietary device with no competition.

The situation hasn’t changed much in the past year, but Seagate now makes 512GB and 2TB drives, so you at least have a few options. Even though I think it’s too proprietary and too expensive, I have the 1TB Seagate drive, and it works great.

Adding an M.2 drive to the PS5 is easy, if you can find one.

Ps5 Vs Xbox Series X Controller And Features What Are The Big Selling Points

The Xbox Series X has Quick Resume, a feature that allows you to swap between the active states of six different games at once. Kept running by the internal SSD, its a feature that has had a huge impact. Instead of having to wait for a title to load, and then sitting through an array of menu options, youre thrown straight into the action.

Im blown away by how well it works, even maintaining my suspended states after the console has been unplugged for an extended period of time. Combine this with fantastic loading times and the whole experience feels wonderful, and a noticeable step ahead of the competition when it comes to backward compatibility. The PS5 is lacking such a feature right now, and I didnt expect its absence to be so notable.

In terms of the controller, Microsoft has taken a more conservative effort with the Series X. The design remains virtually unchanged from the previous generation, with small additions coming in the form of a share button and a more textured grip for added comfort. It feels nicer to use, but its certainly a case of if it aint broke, dont fix it from Xbox and, in all honesty, who can blame them? All your previous controllers and accessories will work, too!

In terms of other new features, the PS5 is relatively thin on the ground, adopting a moment-to-moment experience that feels very familiar. This is no bad thing, but those hoping for a massive departure might be underwhelmed.
