How The Xbox One Might Be Different
I think the Xbox One is likely to follow this pattern as well, but with a few twists and turns in the process. By explicitly keeping the Xbox One in the product stack, Microsoft is telling developers to plan to optimize for three different platforms and two console generations. The fact that both are x86 CPUs with AMD GPUs will cut down on a lot of cross-platform headaches, but the fact remains that the older system uses a different and much less powerful CPU, combined with an older GCN architecture rather than newer RDNA2.
The original Xbox One SoC.
Nonetheless, theres no ignoring the fact that the original Xbox is built with either a decent low-end GPU or a low-end mid-range GPU, depending on how you want to split the difference. It lacks the fast storage of later platforms and it lacks the horsepower. Eventually, Microsoft is going to want to put the console out to pasture.
This may not sound like much in the PC world, where upgrading your hardware has always improved performance and visual quality in games. There are old titles you couldnt play at top-notch detail when they were new that will now play at those settings on integrated GPUs. World of Warcraft Classic, for example, runs just beautifully on the Surface Laptop 3s integrated Intel solution, even at high resolution. The most popular old titles often have extensive texture upgrade options, allowing you to breathe new life into old, dated titles. Fair point.

Is Xbox One S Good For Gaming
The Xbox One S maintains compatibility with all existing Xbox One games and upcoming projects for the foreseeable future. Comparable performance across the board is expected, reaching up to 1080p resolution at 60 frames-per-second . Although a minor hardware bump on paper, you’ll generally experience identical performance to original Xbox One consoles.
The Xbox One S packs a key feature for gamers, with the addition of High Dynamic Range support across select titles. This brings a wider color gamut and increased contrast ratio across supported displays, generally leading to more vivid, realistic colors. A significant library of HDR titles has accumulated since 2016, recently bolstered by the HDR-enabled Xbox One X Enhanced lineup.
Microsoft has been criticized for its lack of high-quality exclusives, but Halo, Gears of War, Forza, and other top franchises are accessible on the console. Strong third-party support brings titles from the world’s top developers, while Xbox backward compatibility ensures support for classic Xbox 360 and original Xbox games too.
Microsoft’s Netflix-style subscription service for games, Xbox Game Pass, also pairs well the budget-friendly Xbox One S. Providing access to a rotating library of over 100 games for a flat $10 monthly fee, this is an ideal way to kickstart your game collection from zero.
Xbox One Consoles Have Already Been Discontinued Claim Retail Sources
Both Amazon and Target in the US seem to have labelled the entire Xbox One console line as discontinued, as the Xbox Series X prepares for launch.
Insiders have already warned that the Xbox Games Showcase in two weeks time will take its name very literally, with little chance that it will reveal the price of the next gen Xbox Series X console.
How much it will talk about hardware, and services like Game Pass, is unclear but it seems like Microsoft is preparing for a major console announcement, given that Amazon now lists all models of the Xbox One, including the Xbox One X, as discontinued.
That could be some kind of mistake but a post on Reddit suggests that Target in the US has also listed them as discontinued on their internal system, meaning that the consoles will never be back on shelves once the ones currently in stock are all sold out with the only exception being limited editions such as the Cyberpunk 2077 edition.
Although the Xbox Series X was always going to replace the Xbox One eventually it seems surprising that Microsoft would discontinue the current gen consoles months before the next gen has even started.
Especially when new games are going to be labelled as compatible with both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X, with many sporting Optimized for Xbox Series X logos.
Perhaps well find out for certain whats going on though, when the Xbox Games Showcase starts at 5pm on Thursday, 23 July.

What Is A Certified Refurbished Product
A Certified Refurbished product functions exactly like a new product and has limited to no signs of wear. It has been tested and certified to look and work like new by a qualified manufacturer or a specialized third-party refurbisher. The product ships with all relevant accessories expected for a new product with exceptions, if any, mentioned in the product description section above, and may arrive in a generic white or brown box.
Xbox Series S: The New Xbox One
We know that Microsoft has put backwards compatibility front and center with the Xbox Series X with every title playing nicely with the new hardware. If thats the case for Xbox Series S too, then why would Microsoft need to keep the Xbox One? This would be a machine capable of playing everything the discontinued console can, with the added advantage of pushing 1080p versions of Series X exclusives, after all.
Wouldnt that negate the need for Smart Delivery Microsofts technology that allows games to be played across hardware generations with a single purchase? Not necessarily. There are, at last count, just shy of 50 million Xbox One consoles out there, and discontinued or not, theyll still be available via the second-hand market. And for multi-screen households, theyll make an excellent backup console.
If this speculation is right, then its not surprising that Microsoft hasnt officially commented on the Xbox Ones discontinued status to do so would be to announce that the Xbox Series S is real and coming soon, which isnt something the company has decided to do just yet. But if we are on the money with this prediction, then we cant be too far away from an official unveiling. Watch this space.

Xbox Series S Could Replace ‘discontinued’ Xbox One
Microsofts strategy with the upcoming Xbox Series X couldnt be more different than Sonys with the PS5. While the latter wants to put a clear line in the sand between generations, Microsoft intends to be more fluid with experiences shared across generations or so the company says.
However, a few eagle-eyed people have spotted that Xbox One availability seems to be slowing down. Amazon lists the Xbox One X as discontinued, and according to a Reddit user, all Xbox One X consoles are getting discontinued at Target.
Before we go any further, we should note that one Microsoft employee has denied that the Xbox One is discontinued in a discussion on Twitter. Xbox One S is very much still available, tweeted Dan Tavares, Xbox Console Business Planning Lead at Microsoft, in reply to someone highlighting Amazons discontinued listings. Amazon is just messy in how they show products.
Xbox One S is very much still available, we just changed SKU numbers. Amazon is just messy in how they show products.
Its entirely possible that this innocent explanation is true for Target too, and a new SKU is incoming. After all, it would be pretty unusual for a manufacturer to discontinue a console so quickly. Notably, Sony kept manufacturing PlayStation 2 until as recently as 2013, so why would Microsoft say goodbye to Xbox One before its successor arrives on shelves?
The Xbox One X Released In 2017 Was A Higher
Microsoft has stopped making the Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, two of its current-generation console. However, the production of the Xbox One S will continue. The Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft called the move a natural step as the company prepares to launch the next-generation Xbox Series X later this year.
The Xbox One X, released in 2017, was a higher-powered version of its Xbox One console designed to compete with Sonys PlayStation 4 Pro. The video game console featured a 6 teraflop graphical processing unit, 12 GB GDDR5 of graphic memory, and an 8-core custom AMD central processing unit. The console, which had the ability to run video games in native 4K resolutions, was launched at a price of $499.
Other than the flagship Xbox One X, Microsoft is also stopping the production of the cheaper Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. This all-digital edition doesnt allow for discs, which makes sense given Microsoft is betting big on Xbox Game Pass and Project xCloud services. The console retails for as low as $200 on Amazon and GameStop.

Update: Only The Xbox One S Remains In Production As Microsoft Pulls The Plug On Its High
Update: A Microsoft representative has confirmed the discontinuation of the Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition to GamesIndustry.biz.
“As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X, we’re taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition,” the representative said. “Xbox One S will continue to be manufactured and sold globally. Gamers can check with their local retailers for more details on Xbox One hardware availability.”
Original Story: The Xbox One family of consoles seems to have been discontinued in the lead-up to their successor’s launch later this year.
Australian games site Press Start reports that Microsoft’s Australian website no longer lists the Xbox One or upgraded Xbox One X, instead only offering the cheaper Xbox One S and the upcoming next-generation device Xbox Series X.
Press Start also claims to have confirmation from EB Games and JB Hi-FI, both prominent retail chains in the region, that the Xbox One X has been deleted from their systems, preventing them from ordering any more stock.
Listings for the console have been removed from their website and their Amazon stores.
Meanwhile, UK newspaper Metro reports both Amazon and major US retailer Target have labelled the entire line of Xbox One consoles as discontinued.
As spotted by our sister site Pure Xbox, a Microsoft exec has already confirmed that the Xbox One S has not been discontinued.

Confusion Reigns Over Whether Microsoft Is Discontinuing The Xbox One Or Not
Xbox One X
Something weird is going on with Xbox right now, and it may have a complicated answer, or a simple one.
Many are noting that retailers are not just sold out of certain models of Xbox these days, but some are literally being marked as discontinued.
GamesIndustry.biz recently compiled some of the claims, which include:
- Microsofts Australian site doesnt list the Xbox One or One X for sale anymore, only the Xbox One S .
- Stores like EB Games and JB Hi-Fi are claiming that Microsoft literally isnt letting them order any more stock of the Xbox One X.
- In the US, Target has marked the whole collection of Xbox One consoles as discontinued.
- On Amazon, a number of different Xbox One variants are marked as discontinued.
So, whats the simple explanation?
This is tied into some recent comments from Xbox console business planning lead Dan Tavares, who responded to images of discontinued Xboxes on Amazon saying that they had just changed the SKUs, and it was Amazon that had messed stuff up. But he was only talking about the Xbox One S, which does still seem to be available while other models arent.
Xbox One S Vs Xbox One X
Microsoft has officially discontinued the Xbox One X and Xbox One S, focusing its manufacturing on the newly released Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. That said, its possible to find stock of Xbox One consoles available at certain retailers, and considering the Series X|S is still nearly impossible to find right now, you may want to buy one of Microsofts last-gen consoles at a discount for the time being.
Between the Xbox One X, Xbox One S, and the original, previously discontinued Xbox One, theres a big difference between their respective hardware specs, processing power, supported display resolutions, and prices that you should consider before making a purchase. They all run the same games, but how well those games run couldnt be more different across the machines.
Before you decide which last-gen Xbox to buy, well cover how the Xbox One X and S compare in important areas like framerates, resolution, HDR support, and more. Lets see who wins this console duke-out and if either offers anything that the new Xbox Series X and S dont.

Is Xbox One S Good For Movies And Tv
Although the original Xbox One was pitched as a cohesive media device, the Xbox One S delivers major improvements for movies and TV. With the addition of HDMI 2.0 support, the console can output native 4K 60Hz video, paired with HDR. This delivers the best possible image across select media when paired with a top-end display.
The Xbox One S also packs a 4K HDR Blu-ray player, which is currently absent from all PlayStation 4 consoles in 2019. Standalone 4K Blu-ray players are priced similarly to the Xbox One S, making it viable for media consumption only.
A growing collection of services also offer 4K playback on Xbox One S, including Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video, and more. Alternatively, users can access digital UHD content served via the Microsoft Store, despite the weak library.
Genshin Impact Still Refuses To Increase Anniversary Rewards Despite Fan Outcry
But he did say that in general, demand for Xbox has been huge during the pandemic, and it seems possible that all these sell-outs and reports of things not being discontinued or able to be ordered may stem from that, simply a shortage with so much demand for consoles while everyone is mostly stuck indoors. I can buy that as a reasonable explanation as to whats happening here. Granted, his answers were on July 4, and some of these other developments are more recent.
The more complicated, conspiratorial explanation is that Microsoft may be cleaning house of certain models of Xbox ahead of both the Xbox Series X and the reveal of Xbox Lockhart, the lower spec console that is supposedly going to be showed off in August.
Xbox Series X
It does make a certain amount of sense that Microsoft would not be making an Xbox One S, an Xbox One, and Xbox One X, an Xbox Lockhart and an Xbox Series X all at the same time. One thing I have said repeatedly is if Xbox Lockhart was real , that one of the only position for the console that makes sense would be as a replacement for the Xbox One X. Technically, the non-sale price of the Xbox One X is still $400 right now. It makes more sense to me that Lockhart would arrive and replace it at that price point, while the Series X would arrive at $500 or $600 or whatever higher price it needs to be.

Xbox One Provides Access To Game Pass
These days, Xbox Game Pass is the biggest draw of an Xbox console. If you’re not familiar, Game Pass is a monthly subscription that provides unlimited access to over 100 games.
You can download and play them on your Xbox for as long as you stay subscribed, and it’s full of high-quality games. Plus, all titles published by Xbox Game Studios come to Game Pass on their day of release.
Game Pass is $10/month for console only. There’s also Game Pass Ultimate, which is $15/month and includes access to Game Pass on PC, as well as Xbox Live Gold and other perks. For more info, see our full guide to Xbox Game Pass.
Both the Xbox One line and Xbox Series X/S provide full access to the Game Pass catalog, at least at the time of writing. The Xbox Series S|X will run the games better and faster, however, thanks to those consoles packing SSDs and more powerful internals.
That means if you want to check out lots of the titles on Game Pass, an Xbox One is a decent way to do so. However, many of the same games are on Game Pass for PC, so if you have access to a decent gaming computer, an Xbox One is largely redundant.
