Dropping Xbox Live Gold For Free

We’re closer than ever to the historic day when free-to-play games would no longer require Xbox Live Gold.

Microsoft has revealed that Omega Xbox Insiders will no longer require an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play free-to-play games online. This effectively makes the feature available to all Xbox Insiders, indicating that its public rollout is imminent.

In a blog post, Microsoft indicated that nothing has changed since the feature first became available to Alpha Skip Ahead and Alpha Insiders. As with all policy changes and new features, Microsoft releases them gradually to the various Insider rings, before unlocking them for everyone ahead of their public launch.

Unfortunately, this also means that some games have yet to be updated to support this change. Destiny 2, and Call of Duty: Warzone both still require an Xbox Live Gold membership to play online, something Microsoft warned about. The company is also looking for reports of any other free-to-play games that don’t play nice so that it can alert their developers to ready necessary patches.

The decision to drop the Gold requirement for free-to-play games was first announced back in January, after Microsoft reversed course on a plan to increase Xbox Live Gold subscription fees following negative feedback, just one day after the new prices were revealed.

How Much Does Xbox Live Gold Cost

You can subscribe to Xbox Live Gold in four different increments of time. One-month subscriptions, three-month subscriptions, six-month subscriptions, or annual subscriptions.

Obviously the cheapest up front will be the one-month subscription. But there is more value in going for the longer offers. As theyre priced to make it less per month than simply subscribing month by month.

Doing month by month gives you more control and the knowledge that you werent wasting any money if you were to ever cancel. But If you are certain you will be utilizing the membership every month for a set period of time, youre much better off subscribing for a longer period of time. Because you save money in the long run.

One-month subscriptions will be $9.99, three-month subscriptions will be $24.99, six-month subscriptions will be $39.99, and annual subscriptions will be $59.99.

Sometimes these will go on sale and you can pick up subscriptions for cheaper than normal. So its a good idea to keep an eye out for sales on the annual membership. As sometimes you can find them on sale for less than the six-month membership.

Microsoft also recently reported that the prices were changing. However it received a lot of backlash from users and media. So it decided not to change the prices from the amounts listed above.

Why Xbox Live Gaming Should Be Free For All

Don Reisinger thinks Microsoft needs to increase hardware sales by offering Xbox Live gaming for free. Should it?

Over the weekend, I spent some time playing online. I did so on Xbox Live and through games on both my PS3 and Wii. All the while, I was thinking about the one simple fact that kept sticking out in my head: for now at least, I can play online with my Wii and Playstation 3 and the experience is basically the same.

And considering Microsoft keeps losing ground to both Sony and Nintendo, why not find a new way to offer a more compelling alternative out of the company’s most popular service?

Sure, it sounds radical and losing $50 per year from the millions of Xbox Live subscribers may be a major sticking point here, but it needs to be done. Microsoft’s latest NPD numbers have been less than stellar and the Wii, DS, Playstation 3, and the PSP all sold better than the company’s console in July. And if you want to compete in the hardware business, that’s simply unacceptable.

To make matters worse, the big lead Microsoft had over Sony in the third-party sphere is practically eliminated and it doesn’t look like Nintendo will slow down anytime soon, nor will the Xbox 360 become a force in Asia.

So what does Microsoft need to do to right the ship and really turn things around? Announce that all Xbox Live memberships will be free and all gamers can play online without a hitch. It’s radical, for sure, but it’s the best move Microsoft can make right now.

Xbox Live May Become A Free Service As Microsoft Drops 12

Microsoft may replace Xbox Live with Game Pass Ultimate.

Microsoft might be turning its Xbox Live into a free service for the first time since 2002. The company has stopped offering one-year subscriptions to its online gaming service, leaving only one and three-month tiers. That’s led to plenty of speculation that it could be making the service free when its next-gen console lands at the end of this year.

The development comes as Microsoft invests more in the Game Pass Ultimate subscription service, most recently announcing that its game-streaming platform xCloud will be included for no extra cost. At $15 per month, Game Pass Ultimate provides access to over 100 games and now subscribers will be able to play games across console, desktop PC, and mobile .

Game subscriptions are the future â There’s no good reason to subscribe to Xbox Live Gold over Game Pass Ultimate, which costs $5 more per month and includes access to Xbox Live. Microsoft clearly sees game subscriptions as the future of Xbox and it’s no surprise why: if you want to keep playing, you have to keep paying. Microsoft stands to make a lot of money if it can transition Xbox to a Netflix-style model where it develops a large backlog of titles that keep people renewing their subscriptions every month.

Do I Need To Install The Games To Claim Them

What Xbox live is going to be Free for free to play Games.

No. All you need to do is claim the game and itll be there until you decide to install and play it. You can install it if you like to have all of your games readily available at a moments notice though.

This;would;save you time after all, as you wouldnt have to wait for the install down the road when you decide to play something new. So its at least worth considering installing games right when you claim them even if you dont plan to play those games right then and there.

Again though, if you dont install them right away you wont lose them. As long as you claim they will be in your library for good.

Can I Get Xbox Live Gold For Free

In a sense, yes. If you subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, then this includes a free membership to Xbox Live Gold in addition to everything else it offers.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate comes with a growing library of over 100+ games that you can play at no additional charge beyond the membership price. These rotate in and out so they wont always be the same. But you can play them on your Windows 10 PC or on your console. And if you have an Android smartphone or tablet, you can even play them through the cloud on those devices.

On top of all that, you also get discounts and other perks. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate does cost more though. As its $14.99 per month. However you can get the first three months for $1 if youre a first-time subscriber.

No Xbox Live Gold Needed: These 80+ Xbox Games Are Now Free To Play

After doing a u-turn on its Xbox Live Gold membership price hike, Microsoft makes these f2p games actually free to play

ByShabana Arif Last updated 2021-01-27T14:51:14.643Z

This past weekend, Microsoft had a mini melodrama on its hands when it unceremoniously announced that it would be hiking up the price of its Xbox Live Gold subscription in an effort to herd customers towards its new Xbox Game Pass service.

The move backfired spectacularly, but to its credit, Xbox pivoted almost immediately, reverting the increase and apologising to the community for missing the mark. In an effort to quell tempers, the gaming giant dropped a nugget for Xbox players it had presumably been saving, but pulled the trigger on to claw back as much goodwill as possible: free-to-play games will no longer require an Xbox Live Gold monthly membership to enjoy. They will actually be free to play. ;

Microsoft announced the price increase at the end of last week, and after fast and furious backlash, quickly walked it back in a blog post update, admitting it “failed to meet the expectations of players who count on it every day.”;

It added that it’s using the opportunity to “bring Xbox Live more in line” with how it sees “the player at the center of their experience” which translates to no more monthly subscription costs to play games that are free-to-play.;

Xbox Live Multiplayer Could Be On The Verge Of Becoming Free

New Claims Resurface On Xbox Live Going Free, But It Could ...

Microsoft was one of the first companies out of the big three to charge for online multiplayer, and they might be the first ones to drop it as well.

In the past couple of days, there have been a lot of rumors regarding the removal of 12 months of Xbox Live Gold from the Microsoft Store. This has led to speculation among fans that Microsoft is making the bold move of dropping the Gold requirement for the Xbox Live multiplayer, and it is not out of the possibility if we consider their current business model.

Microsoft has started to rely heavily on a subscription-based service and going all-in with Xbox Game Pass and Project xCloud, which is basically their own version of Netflix for games. Xbox Live Gold was a subscription service that allowed users to play online multiplayer and it started to add free games to the service every month, in order to compete with Sonys PlayStation Plus. It seems this is a thing of the past now with the rapid expansion of Xbox Game Pass, which is available for both PC and Xbox One.

Some of the major announcements that Microsoft has made in recent times are Project xCloud coming to Game Pass Ultimate Bundle and Game Pass for PC. It is still in the Beta stage for now but it appears Microsoft is hoping to make an attractive library of games before they go in with a public launch of the Game Pass for PC. There are still many games that are added to the service however, the focus appears to be on the Xbox One version of Game Pass for now.

Xbox Live Gold Was Always Going To Drop The Free

A new GamesBeat event is around the corner! Learn more about what comes next.;

On Friday morning, Microsoftannounced it was increasing the price of its Xbox Live Gold subscription service. By Friday evening, it reversed that decision and then some. In an update to its news post about the price change, the company explained that it had messed up. And according to sources familiar with the matter, Xbox leadership came to that conclusion quickly after a loud public outcry from gamers but also from feedback within other Xbox teams.

Going forward, new and existing Xbox Live Gold subscribers can join the service for the current price. That means $10 per month, $25 for three months, $40 for six months, and $60 for a year. Thats opposed to the now-abandoned plan to increase prices to $11 per month, $30 for three months, and $60 for six months. On top of that, you will soon no longer need an Xbox Live Gold membership to access online features for free-to-play games.

We are working hard to deliver this change as soon as possible in the coming months, reads the blog update.

This is an exciting change for people who want to play Fortnite or with friends. But dropping the paywall for free-to-play games was already on Microsofts roadmap for later this year. The company is simply accelerating those plans.

When Will These Xbox Live Gold Changes Arrive

The new changes to Xbox Live Gold are now rolling out on Xbox consoles. Following the change, free-to-play multiplayer games are now playable on any account with or without an Xbox Live Gold subscription. Some titles, like Call of Duty: Warzone and Destiny 2, issued mandatory updates related to the change, which must be installed before accessing free-to-play multiplayer. The release follows what looked to be a somewhat reactionary announcement in January, with several weeks of testing through the Xbox Insider Program.

After several weeks of testing within the Xbox Insider program, Microsoft has officially removed the Xbox Live Gold requirement for free-to-play games on Xbox.;

Free-to-play now means free-to-play.Starting now, all Xbox players can access these free-to-play games with or without an Xbox Live Gold subscription:

Sonys PlayStation Plus has operated under this model since it started requiring the service for online play in 2013.;
