What Is Xbox All Access

Is Xbox All Access Series X Worth It?

Xbox All Access is Microsofts financing program for the new Xbox Series X or Series S consoles. Enroll in Xbox All Access and youll receive a console on launch day November 10th plus 24 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

With approved credit, youll pay $0 down, 0% APR, and a low monthly fee ranging from $25 to $35 per month for the Series S and Series X, respectively.

So Is Xbox All Access Worth It

Short answer: Yes, if you were planning on subscribing to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate anyway

Lets talk numbers. Either you cough up the cash for your console upfront, in one lump sum, then subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, or you subscribe to Xbox All Access for two years, bundling everything into one monthly payment.

If you were going to buy the Xbox Series S outright, youd pay $711.46 in all, assuming eight percent sales tax. Thats one $299 console and 24 months of $14.99 for Game Pass. For Xbox All Access, youd pay $24.99 per month, for 24 months, for a total of $647.74. A $60+ discount is nothing to sniff at, and also means youre not paying credit card interest if you didnt pay for the console with cash in the first place.

The picture isnt quite as clear for the Xbox Series X. Cash buyers would pay $499 for the console, and 24 months at $14.99, for a total of $927.46, with the same eight percent sales tax. Xbox All Access is $34.99 per month, so 24 months works out at $906.94. Sure, its a $20 saving but its not as big of a difference.

Still, either way, Xbox All Access can be cheaper than buying your console outright. You still own the console after the 24 months of payments, and you get the option to upgrade to the next console, without having to deal with the whims of trade-in values at your local GameStop. Isnt that a win?

Youre Not Interested In Ultimate Game Pass

Enrolling in Xbox All Access only makes sense if youre 100% certain youll want Ultimate Game Pass for the next 24 months.

As a reminder, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate includes Game Pass, Game Pass for PC, and Xbox Live Gold, which enables online multiplayer. If youre only interested in playing single player games or split-screen multiplayer, you might as well downgrade to Game Pass, which is just $9.99 per month.

If you factor in the one-month free trial, you can have an Xbox Series X plus 24 months of non-Ultimate Game Pass for just $787 after taxes, a sizable ~$120 savings off of 24 months of Xbox All Access.

Xbox All Access Is The Best Way To Buy A Console For Your Kids If You’re Comfortable With It

The Xbox Series X is still near impossible to get hold of, and in places even the more affordable Xbox Series S can be a pain as well. But added into the mix is the Xbox All Access program which, at least at times, appears to have a separate stock pool.

Indeed, here in the U.K. in recent weeks, there have been instances of the elusive Xbox Series X being available, but only through Xbox All Access. But at least this generally means scalpers don’t bother scooping up all the stock.

I bought my own Series X through Xbox All Access at launch, and I was pleasantly surprised at the whole process. Moreso, had I not already done it, I would most definitely have bought my son’s Xbox Series S through it. For parents looking to get their kids an Xbox console, Xbox All Access is worth considering if you’ve previously written it off. Here’s why you should and shouldn’t use it to buy your kids a new Xbox.

Faster Storage Delivers Much Shorter Load Times

All games and saves on an Xbox Series X or Series S are stored on a much newer and much faster type of storagecalled NVMethan the platter-based hard drive the Xbox One uses. This new storage helps provide some of the most obvious improvements to the overall user experience and games for this new console generation, with a night-and-day difference in console startup, game boot-ups, and in-game load times.

How To Upgrade Your Current Xbox All Access Subscription

Here’s where things get a bit complicated. If you’re a current Xbox All Access subscriber you can upgrade your subscription to an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S bundle, but there’s some important information to note first.

Firstly, while current Xbox All Access subscriptions specify that you can’t upgrade your console for 18 months, Microsoft has waved that stipulation in the US so you can sign up for an Xbox Series S or X subscription when the pre-order window opens on September 22.

However, to move onto a new subscription service before the 18-month window you will have to apply for a new Xbox All Access credit agreement, enter a new 24-month contract with Klarna and you’ll also only be able to do so with the same retail partner where you joined the program.

Now, here’s the important part, if you haven’t yet reached your 18 month window, you will have to continue to make the payments on your current subscription service as well as the ones on your new subscription, up until that 18 month window for your original console ends – in addition, you need to return your current console in good condition.

However, if you choose to upgrade and don’t return your trade-in kit, then your Klarna account will be paused for 30 days before returning to an ‘active status’. You will then have to pay of the total of your remaining balance, with the delayed payment being collected at the same time as your next normal monthly repayment.

Xbox All Access Explained: Is It Worth It And Where Can You Buy

Is Xbox All Access Worth It?

Xbox All Access is an Xbox Series X payment plan system that allows you to open a line of credit with a retailer and pay $34.99 / £28.99 a month for a console and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription over the course of two years.

Xbox Series X All Access is a surefire way to land precious Xbox Series X stock without having to chase retailer drops. That’s because you can easily pre-order your console through a retailer like Walmart in the US and Game in the UK, reserving a unit for yourself, and 24 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, ahead of the next stock wave. The only hitch here is that you won’t be buying your Xbox outright. Instead Xbox Series X All Access is a payment plan system, set up through your retailer of choice.

Over the course of 24 months, you’ll be paying $34.99 / £28.99 a month or $24.99 / £20.99 a month – and there are no hidden fees or APR to add to this. But it is a new line of credit with the retailer themselves that means you will need to pass credit checks to be able to take part.

That means you’re essentially reserving an Xbox Series X bundle, ready for new stock to drop, securing a Game Pass Ultimate deal on top of your console. That’s a solid plan if you’re struggling to keep up with restocks.

    Xbox Series X Controller

Another notable change for the Series X is the new controller design seen above. Xbox Series X controllers are a touch more ergonomic than their predecessors, but they are familiar for the most part.

The controllers button layout is virtually identical to previous controllers, and it features a textured surface on the triggers and bumpers. The rubberized surface is also found on the controllers back for enhanced grip and comfort even in extended play sessions.

The biggest change is that the D-pad has been replaced with the improved design from the premium Xbox Elite Wireless controller Series 2. This should make inputs while playing fighting games in particular much more precise.

Following in Sonys footsteps, Microsoft also introduced a screenshot sharing button. This will allow you to capture and share gameplay without resorting to clumsy cables and adaptors.

Like the previous iteration, the Xbox Series X Wireless Controller is fully compatible with Windows PCs right out of the box. Theyre also compatible with Android and iOS devices via Bluetooth. We fully expect them to dethrone the Xbox One Wireless controller as one of the best mobile controllers out there as availability improves.

Its also worth noting Xbox Series X/S controllers will work with the older Xbox One family and vice versa.

    New Xbox Series X Features

One new Xbox feature is thats coming soon is Microsofts new cloud streaming service called Xbox Cloud Gaming, which is included as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Similar to or Geforce Now, it will allow you to stream games from the cloud onto your device. This way you can bypass download, install, and update times to hop right into the game or demo. As of now, its available on mobile, PC, and consoles.

Thanks to its access to the massive Xbox content library, Microsoft is already touting its superiority over other budding cloud gaming services like Stadia. Theres also Remote Play for those that want to stream directly from their console to mobile devices. This is far more stable, though youll still have to suffer through some input lag when playing. Nevertheless, its a handy option to have when someone else wants to take over the TV and youre not quite ready to quit.

Once games are installed, the upgraded SSD should drastically reduce load times in-game vs the HDDs of older-gen Xbox consoles. While it is a hair shy of the PS5s new storage speeds, it does have a slightly larger capacity, so it should fit more games. Either way, its a massive upgrade from current-gen consoles that will be felt in every game you play new or old.

The Xbox Series X can add HDR and improve framerates of Xbox One and Xbox 360 games.

How Else To Get An Xbox Series X

Of course, a lot of this analysis sidesteps one important issue: right now, its nearly impossible to get an Xbox Series X without Xbox All Access, and relatively easy to get an Xbox Series X with it. But remember, once you get your Xbox in hand, you cant simply pay for the whole thing up front and be done with it. Citizens Bank will have you on the hook for the next two years, and a lot can happen in that time.

Personally, I would feel more comfortable buying a console outright, even if it meant I had to wait a few more months to get my hands on one. Furthermore, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate goes on sale relatively often you could almost certainly get two years worth for less than $360.

Still, if you do get Xbox All Access, just remember to pay on time, and in full, every month. As long as you do that, Citizens Bank should be happy with you, and you should be happy with your Xbox.
