Every Original Xbox & 360 Game Playable On Xbox One & Series X
As the release of the Xbox Series X draws closer, here’s a list of every original Xbox and Xbox 360 title playable on the Xbox One and the Series X.
There are a lot of games from previous console generations which will be backwards compatible with the Xbox Series X and currently are playable on the Xbox One. Microsoft is planning to release the newest version of their Xbox line of video game consoles later in 2020 during the holiday season and, in contrast to the slow reveal of information from Sony about their upcoming PlayStation 5, players already have a good bit of information about just what exactly the new Xbox Series X is bringing to the table.
However, one things players don’t yet know for sure is just when inside the Holiday 2020 release window Microsoft will make the Xbox Series X available to purchase, or how expensive it will be. Thankfully, the company is not expecting any delays with its production despite the current ongoing global situation, and players have already begun to receive video footage from next-gen Xbox games like The Ascent. Until the Xbox Series X arrives, people looking to jump into another game right this minute have a LOT of options.

Xbox Backward Compatibility Program Will Bring Original Xbox And Xbox 360 Titles To Xbox Series S/x Xbox One And Xbox One X
Microsoft announced the addition to the Xbox compatibility program at Xbox’s 20th Anniversary event
- This will be the final update for the Xbox compatibility program
- Microsoft is adding Auto HDR, FPS Boost, more to the games
- Xbox backward-compatible games get increased resolution support
Microsoft on Monday announced that it is adding more than 70 games to its backward compatibility program. As per the announcement, 76 games are being added to Microsoft’s Xbox backward compatibility program. All the games from the original Xbox and Xbox 360 will also support Auto HDR on the latest generation of Xbox consoles Xbox Series S/ Series X. The Auto HDR will work only on supported displays. How Does Backward Compatibility Work On Xbox Series S
Those that opt to pick up the digital-only and slightly weaker Xbox Series S will have a different backward compatibility experience from those that have an Xbox Series X. Firstly, and most obviously, you cannot use the physical copies of Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One games you own for backward compatibility because the Series S does not have a disc drive. Also, while it doesn’t always hit the same heights as Microsoft’s previously released Xbox One X, Eurogamerstill highlighted how games will still be upgraded in their own way.
Original Xbox and Xbox 360 games will get upgraded to run at a 1440p resolution, which is a bit lower than the 4K the Xbox One X could achieve. This also means that when you play an Xbox One game on the Series S, you’re experience will be an upgraded Xbox One S game rather than the enhanced Xbox One X games that Xbox Series X players get to experience.
That said, many of the games will still come with performance enhancements on Xbox Series S that are better than what the Xbox One X could achieve. Eurogamer specifically points out better dynamic resolution scaling, texture filtering quality, HDR support, and loading times. It can also play some games at up to 120fps just like the Xbox Series X.

Xbox One: Backward Compatibility List Of All Games On The Xbox 360
It is said that competition is good for business and the extremely practical backward compatibility of the Xbox One is another impressive example of this truism. Since the announcement at E3 2015 and the publication in the same year, Microsoft has worked continuously on the function and has long since proven that this is not a snap shot. Rather, the opposite is the case: month after month, new games appear be they Xbox 360 or Xbox 1 games which you can play on your One , sometimes with a neatly drilled look.
While the selection was initially manageable, there is now a very large pool available to you. From street sweepers with budgets like Gears of War 3 or Halo: Reach to iconic Xbox Live arcade titles, pretty much everything you could want is now represented. In their entirety, the backwards compatible games have long been an adequate cross-section of the high-quality Xbox 360 library. On the Xbox 1 front, however, it still looks a bit poor.
Nevertheless, even if both downloadable and disk-based games are now supported due to the powerful emulator of the Xbox One, the selection is far from complete . For this reason, the following is a complete and regularly updated list of all backward-compatible games on the Xbox One .
Thanks to the backward compatibility, you can play numerous Xbox 360 games on your Xbox One.
Xbox One X Specs: How Powerful Is The New Xbox And How Much Better Will Games Look
Unlike the Xbox One S – which is more along the lines of a traditional slim redesign – Xbox One X is a mid-generation upgrade to the Xbox One.
At E3 we had a first glimpse at the box itself, which is touted as the smallest Xbox ever – smaller even than last year’s Xbox One S slimline revision.
The hard specs are as follows, with comparisons to the PS4 Pro and original Xbox One, over in our exclusive Digital Foundry Project Scorpio reveal:
- Eight custom CPU cores clocked at 2.3GHz
- 326GB/s of memory bandwidth
- 1172MHz GPU – with 40 customised compute units
- 12GB GDDR5 memory
- 4K UHD Blu-ray disc player
- 4K gaming support
- VR support
This is a machine with far more graphical prowess that the existing Xbox One, and how developers will take advantage of that 6TF of GPU power is up to them.
It’s not for the faint-hearted.
Back during E3 2016, Xbox head Phil Spencer said users will only notice a difference with games running on Xbox One X if they had a 4K television but that’s changed – Spencer later clarified that “some developers will take advantage of that 6 teraflops in different ways”, meaning they won’t have to use the extra processing power to necessarily hit 4K, and can channel it towards a better looking 1080p experience instead – whether that’s through super sampling or otherwise.

Xbox One X And Xbox Series X/s Enhancements
Backwards compatible original Xbox and Xbox 360 titles will benefit from becoming Xbox One X enhanced with patches targeted at maximizing the use of the Xbox One X’s hardware beyond the standard improvements that come with backwards compatibility. This may also include the following enhancements:
- Increased resolution â The title is capable of outputting up to 2160p. Enhanced games are rendered at 9x their original resolution. This means games that originally ran at 720p will run at 2160p on capable displays.
- HDR â The title supports HDR10 when used with a supporting display.
- Dolby Atmos â The title supports Dolby Atmos surround sound when used with a supporting sound system.
Along with these enhancements, certain titles on the Xbox Series X/S benefit from exclusive features.
- Auto HDR â Many titles do not support native HDR, but rather Auto HDR, an automatic form of HDR.
- FPS Boost – Some titles support increased framerates of up to 60 frames per second.

Gears Of War Judgement
Status: Nearly unplayable due to severe performance drops
Released in 2013, Gears Judgement is the final installment in the franchise released on Xbox 360 and also the first Gears title developed by a studio other than Epic Games – in this case, People Can Fly picked up the mantle. It’s a game that has proven divisive amongst fans due to a very different type of single-player progression but it manages to play better than any other title in the series in many ways. It also happens to be one of the finest looking games on Xbox 360. The developer pushes the console to the absolute limit while taking advantage of every visual feature available in Unreal Engine 3 at the time.
Gears Judgement focuses more heavily on combat situations than previous games, with many areas more closely resembling horde mode than the more traditional single-player experience. With more enemies on screen than any other Gears title, it should be no surprise that Gears Judgement struggles on Xbox One. Nearly every major battle in the game is fraught with performance issues that send the frame-rate tumbling down to 20fps or below. Some of the larger areas are demanding to the point that frame-rate dips are observed even when enemies are eliminated.
Xbox One X Vr And 4k Games Support
Upon the system’s announcement, Microsoft has said Xbox One X’s extra power will be particularly useful in two areas delivering 4K gaming and “high fidelity” VR.
In Digital Foundry’s opinion and spec analysis of Xbox One X, the suggestion is that, if the software – by which we mean games – are optimised well enough, “there is some evidence that Scorpio’s true 4K performance could pose a challenge to the likes of Nvidia’s GTX 1070 and AMD’s Fury X-class hardware.
Over in the deepdive on Scorpio tech, Digital Foundry detailed what they were shown of a special Forza Motorsport demo running in native 4K at 60fps – with power to spare. “Clearly this is just one game, but the point is that Scorpio doesn’t just scale Xbox One engines to 4K. For the Forza engine at least, there’s overhead, and plenty of it.”
This was later confirmed with the announcement of Forza Motorsport 7 at E3, which will run at a native 4K at 60FPS.
At E3 2017 we’ve had Digital Foundry deep dives into other games, such as BioWare’s Anthem and Assassin’s Creed Origins on the system. Both aren’t ‘true’ 4K, employing checkerboard rendering and / or dynamic resolution, but still offer some very impressive results.
However, a larger question from the event was the lack of code running on Xbox One X hardware, with several titles shown on PC instead – making it too early to make broad assessments of the jump between the PS4 Pro or even the standard Xbox One.

Here Are A Few Of The Most Underappreciated Xbox 360 Games Ever
The Xbox 360 was home to a wealth of great games, many of which have gone on to become classics. The names Bioshock, Skyrim, and Red Dead Redemption are some of the ones that most readily come to mind when someone brings up the 360 .
But there were so many other great games for Microsoft’s seventh generation effort that never really got the limelight they deserved, as so often happens in this hyper-saturated era of gaming in which it can be so hard for games to stand out. In all console generations it is inevitable that some more-than-worthy titles will fall by the wayside for one reason or another – whether it be a lack of/bad marketing, bad timing, or in some cases a game may just be ahead of its time.
Here we are going to have a look at some of the more underrated games that called the Xbox 360 home.

Backward Compatible Xbox 360 Games On Xbox One: How Well Do They Work
The results vary depending on the game. As our English-speaking digital foundry colleagues showed, at least all of the classics benefit from fundamental improvements such as the disappearance of any tearing and, in some cases, significantly shorter loading times.
Although less demanding games such as Braid or N + do not present the emulator with any challenges, more CPU-heavy games such as Halo: Reach or Gears of War: Judgment cause it minor problems.
As far as features and functions are concerned, you can expect the following support:
- Digital and disk-based games can be played at no cost
- Existing saved games can be reused with the help of the cloud, and DLCs, achievements and the original dashboard are also available
- Multiplayer possible between 360 and Xbox One players
- Selected Xbox One system functions such as Game DVR, Windows 10 streaming and screenshots
Many Xbox 360 games are also included as part of the paid Xbox Game Pass subscription.
