The Perpetual Testing Initiative is a level editing and sharing service for the PC and Mac versions of Portal 2, released by Valve on May 8th, 2012. It is free for all who purchased Portal 2 and is included directly in the game. Users can create levels, and play them, and also share them online for other players to play. The level editor features a simple interface, and the ability to test play the level. The storyline, while simple, involves Cave Johnson, the test subjects of Aperture Science, and multiple universes.

Aperture Tag: The Paint Gun Testing Initiative

Aperture Tag: The Paint Gun Testing Initiative is a single-player modification of Portal 2 developed by “The Aperture Tag Team” released in 2014. The mod replaces the portal gun with a gun that can shoot the various gels to otherwise various portal-based puzzles.

Additional And Downloadable Content

Portal 2 includes bonus content, including four promotional videos, a Lab Rat comic, and an interactive trailer for the 2011 film Super 8, constructed with the Source game engine. A feature called “Robot Enrichment” allows players to customize the cooperative campaign characters with new gestures and cosmetic items such as hats or flags. These can be earned in-game, traded with other players, or bought through microtransactions at the in-game store.

Valve planned to produce for Portal 2, beginning with “Peer Review”, released on October 4, 2011. The content, which is free regardless of platform, includes a new cooperative campaign which extends the game’s story. A week from the end of the cooperative campaign, GLaDOS prepares Atlas and P-Body to deal with an intruder within Aperture Scienceâthe bird that had previously abducted her as a potato. The content also adds a “challenge mode” similar to that in Portalâplayers try to complete specific chambers with the shortest time or fewest portals used, both which are tracked on overall and friends leaderboards. The challenge modes are available for both single-player and cooperative modes.

The Xbox 360 version was added to the backwards compatibility feature for the Xbox One in June 2016. Alongside Portal, Portal 2 was released on the Nintendo Switch on June 28, 2022 as part of Portal: Companion Collection, developed by Valve and Nvidia Lightspeed Studios.

Thinking with Time Machine is a single player mod for Portal 2 created by Ruslan Rybka and released in 2014, which gives the player the ability to record actions that can be played back by a duplicate of the player-character, including the use of a second set of portals.

Portal Reloaded is a single-player mod for Portal 2 created by Jannis Brinkmann and was released on April 19, 2021, exactly 10 years after the release of Portal 2. The mod gives players the ability to fire a third portal, the “time portal”, to travel between the present and future versions of each test chamber.

As you enter Test Chamber 17 in Chapter 3, look at the black wall high up to the left. There’s a retracted plate there and you can portal the lightbridge to get over to it. Behind the retracted plate lies a mysterious, secret room filled with cups. There’s also some art and a poem on the wall.

Left 4 Dead And Portal 2 Join The Xbox One Backwards Compatibility List

Xbox One gamers can get their hands on two more backwards compatible games, this time with Valve titles Left 4 Dead and Portal 2. Both games will be available to play via backwards compatibility starting today.

Most gamers are probably familiar with the two classic titles from Valve. However, if you’ve missed out thus far, Left 4 Dead is a first person shooter that pits players against hordes of the undead as you travel through each level. Portal 2, meanwhile, is a puzzle-platforming game through which you use a portal gun to bend the laws of physics to get around.

Update: Three more Xbox 360 games have been added to the Xbox One backwards compatibility list. One is Flashback, the sci-fi platformer from Ubisoft, and another is Microsoft’s own Brain Challenge. The final game is Babel Rising, which is not available for download from the Xbox Store.

Left 4 Dead Portal 2 Added To Xbox One Backwards Compatibility

Some good news today Xbox One customers looking to play their 360 classics – Major Nelson has confirmed the addition of several backwards compatible titles. Among them are Valve’s Left 4 Dead and Portal 2, each released well before the current console generation.

If those particular games don’t interest you, the Xbox 360 editions of Flashback, Babel Rising, and Brain Challenge also saw updates today. Each of these games is featured on this backwards compatibility list.

Another Alternate Title Screen

In chapter 6 and 7, when you are in the subterranean labs, if you quit your game and go to the main title page you will be greeted with a title screen of a picture of an area under Aperture. Along with the picture you will see a few old turrets laying around, as well as a song that sounds like it is being sung by turrets.

Cave Johnson And The Lemon Rant

Some way through Portal 2, were introduced to the late founder of Aperture Science, Cave Johnson. We will admit to groaning a little bit when we realised he was going to appear in audio journals, which in 2011 were getting old, off the back of too many BioShock clones. Theyre a step up from collecting text journals, but only one step.

We were so wrong. Cave Johnson is one of gamings best characters, and you dont even get to meet him. The sass and gravitas of J.K. Simmons gives Cave Johnson presence, as he acts like the disappointed dad over Apertures many, many failings.

The pinnacle of the Cave Johnsonisms is the lemon rant. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, he says, as his body slowly dies from inhaling moon dust. But later, as death takes hold of him, he goes on a rant, demanding that life takes the lemons back. Im the man whos gonna burn your house down with lemons!. Few people can rant like J.K. Simmons just see Terence Fletcher in Whiplash and you can see a little bit of that character come through in Cave Johnson.

Portal 2 And Left 4 Dead Receive Xbox One Backwards Compatibility

Portal 2 and Left 4 Dead have been added to the Xbox One’s Xbox One’s backwards compatibility list.

It’s worth noting that the original Portal has been backwards compatible for some time now, while Left 4 Dead 2 became backwards compatible in March.

In addition to these Valve classics, the Xbox One has also received backwards compatibility for Flashback, Brain Challenge, and Babel Rising .

During your escape with Wheatly you will eventually run into the ‘Bring your daughter to work day’ room. Which has all sorts of different science fair Potato projects. If you go down to the very end of the line you will find the over grown potato. Look closely You will find the owner of the project has written her name on one of the bottom corners. Has Anyone Tried Portal 2 On The Xbox One X

Maybe it’s not a big deal considering most people with a PC and Steam most likely already have the game and can play it just fine with everything set to max with a steady frame rate, but I was still curious who here has tried it and can say how it is on the X . I reinstalled Portal 2 on Steam a while back. I have been enjoying it again it’s excellent. I remember digital foundry saying at the time of Portal 2’s release that if you had the option, the 360 version is the version you should stay away from as it has the most visual issues, but now that they’ve released it on the X, it seems to be the second best version perhaps. Maybe I’m just shallow, but despite the fact I have Portal 2 on the PC and PS3, Xbox One X’s backward compatibility for this game and others keeps making me want an X even more as well as a 4K screen. Lastly, although I do want more Half-Life, in returning to Portal, I wouldn’t mind seeing a Portal 3 beforehand.

And I guess this means it is time for me to reinstall Portal 2 again.

I believe the console versions of Portal 2 were locked to 30, so it’ll only be the 360 lower res textures etc but rendered at a higher res on the X.

Rightly held aloft as one of the greatest puzzle games of all time, the Portal games are really one of a kind. Portal 2 fleshed out the formula with co-op gameplay, introducing two loveable robot protagonists in Atlas and P-Body. So with the game backward compatible on Xbox One and now Xbox One X Enhanced, we needed to conduct an experiment.

Naturally, with a bolstered pixel count, Portal 2 obviously looks better on Xbox One X than it does on Xbox 360, but just how much nicer does it look? In a test worthy of Aperture Laboratories itself, we put both versions on trial, comparing the two to see how different they look from one another. The results probably won’t surprise you.

How would Portal 2 handle its ending? Still Alive was one of the most iconic ending sequences in gaming, and people were expecting something. There was the opportunity to do something different, to buck expectations in the same way that the opening did. But, in contrary Valve style, they went for the straight sequel.

Want You Gone was written by Jonathon Coulton, same as Still Alive, but what it lost on surprise and cleverness, it gained in melody. Want You Gone is just a cracking tune, and it carries all the memories of the previous six hours of gaming with it whenever we spin it on Spotify.

Peer Review Dlc Campaign

The robots are reactivated by GLaDOS one week after the original co-op campaign, during which GLaDOS has already wiped out all of the found test subjects after attempting to turn them into “killing machines”. The robots are sent to find a saboteur that has taken control of a prototype central core and is causing problems in the facility. The saboteur is revealed to be a bird pecking at the console’s keyboard, which sends GLaDOS into a panic when she recognizes it as the one who tried to eat her during her time as a potato battery. The robots manage to shoo away the bird, earning a rare compliment from GLaDOS before she notices eggs in its nest. Instead of having them smashed, GLaDOS has the eggs taken to her chamber so that she can raise the baby birds to be her own little killing machines.
