Is Planet Coaster On Xbox Game Pass
| Jan 27, 2022
Want to try your hand at managing a theme park? Then you might be wondering if Planet Coaster is on Xbox Game Pass.
In what was once a vast genre, management simulation games aren’t found as frequently on consoles as they once were. Even rarer is the theme park simulation game on current gen consoles. Luckily, Planet Coaster is here to fill the void. Developed by Frontier Developments, perhaps best known for its Zoo Tycoon and Jurassic World Evolution franchises, Planet Coaster gives players the chance to manage their own theme park.
Players will oversee every detail, from which park rides are built to which janitor you choose to hire. A spiritual successor to the likes of RollerCoaster Tycoon, Planet Coaster will no doubt help scratch that management simulation itch.
It’s time to call in the professionals! Planet Coaster: Console Edition – Ghostbusters Pack is now available on all supported console platforms for £12.99/$14.99/â¬14.99!

‘planet Coaster’ Xbox Interview: Bringing The Rides To Console
ByJez Cordenpublished 29 July 20
A short while ago, Frontier Developments announced that Planet Coaster is heading to Xbox and PlayStation after solidifying its place as one of the greatest tycoon games of all time on PC.
In Planet Coaster, you aim to design, staff, and develop your very own theme park, continuing the decades-long tradition established by games like Roller Coaster Tycoon and Theme Park. Planet Coaster pushes far beyond its predecessors, however, with some of the most comprehensive design tools in the genre, alongside a vibrant creator community that bakes in even more content.
We recently caught up with Planet Coaster Game Director Gary Richards to learn more about how Planet Coaster is making the leap to Xbox One and PlayStation, planned to launch in the Holiday of 2020.

Business Simulation And Tycoon Games
Business simulation games, also known as tycoon games, are a subset of CMSs that simulate a business or some other economy, with the goal for the player to help make the business financially successful.
Some business games typically involve more management than construction, allowing the player to invest in virtual stock markets or similar trade systems. Rather than investing in physical buildings, construction can be abstract, such as purchasing stocks. The closest example of a ‘pure’ economic simulation may be , the goal of which is to build an industrial and financial empire.
At a smaller and more concrete scale, a business simulation may put the player in charge of a business or commercial facility, designing its layouts, hiring staff, and implementing policies to manage the flow of customers and orders as the business grows. Such business simulations include , , and . One popular area for these simulations has included management, including the early titles and , which not only give the player the ability to manage the park but plan out and test the rides. Other niche business simulations include , which lets the player manage a small business dedicated towards building and troubleshooting computer errors.
Planet Coaster: Spiritual Successor To Rollercoaster Tycoon

The development team behind Planet Coaster, Frontier Developments, had previously worked on Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, and have been candid about how Planet Coaster is a spiritual successor to that game. Planet Coaster was even originally titled “Coaster Park Tycoon” during development, further emphasizing the connection between these games. Frontier Developments also have plenty of additional experience in creating sim games, such as Zoo Tycoon and Thrillville.
One of the key elements of Rollercoaster Tycoon that made it successful was the depth of the world players could create and populate, from coaster creation to watching park guests ride them. The console version of Planet Coaster recreates this experience with current-gen capabilities. Since Planet Coaster is so readily availble, the game gives players unfamiliar with the genre an easy and fun introduction to building sims.

Planet Coaster: Console Edition Review: All Ups And No Downs
I remember playing Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 on my cousins PC when I was too young to barely understand how to use a mouse and keyboard. Memories flood back of me, building the theme park of my dreams. Thinking about it now, the park was probably a mismanaged mess of broken rides, litter, crime, and whatever other problems that could occur in a theme park run by a six-year-old. Frontier Developments went on to develop one of my favourite PlayStation 2 games Thrillville, a game I was slightly better equipped to play with an extra two years of knowledge, my parks ran perfectly, or so I think. Now Planet Coaster receives a console launch, running super smooth on the PS5 and it transported me back to losing countless hours managing my theme park.
Planet Coaster: Console Edition is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
Graphics And Audio A Pleasant Package
Planet Coaster on PlayStation 5 looks surprisingly good. The colourful aesthetic, goofy character models and visual styles work perfectly together. As I said, my main park was built around the pirate theme, meaning my park was littered with cannons, Kraken tentacles, treasure chests, and tropical palm trees. There are plenty of other options fairytale, sci-fi, and western, to name a few. Just like real-life theme parks, you could have a fairytale land on the side of your park, with a sci-fi section on the other.
Theres not much to say about audio. Everything sounds like a theme park, the mechanical noise of rides, the hustle and bustle of 1000 people crammed into a small area, and people screaming at the top of their lungs when plummeting towards the ground in my new definitely safe rollercoaster. Voice acting is very well executed for the small cast of characters in tutorials, and the theme music is really cheerful.

We could not be happier to bring the fun and thrills of coaster park management to Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. But The Gamepad Controls Arent Too Fussy
I wasnt worried about how Planet Coaster: Console Edition would fare on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but if I had been, a recent live hands-off showing from Frontier wouldve helped convince me.
The visual fidelity was there, and while I only saw a theme park in its early, not-too-crowded stage of life, Planet Coaster didnt show any worrisome performance blemishes in a build running on Xbox One.
I also saw some new character-driven tutorials and the reworked-for-gamepads control scheme . One of the highlights was the up-close, first-person coaster-building tool.
Frontier rebuilt the UI from the ground up in an attempt to make the basics super accessible and still retain all the intricacy of the tools, according to lead designer Andrew Fletcher. We had a good experience with Jurassic World Evolution and bringing that to console and PC at the same time, he said. That kind of showed us that there was an appetite for management games on console platforms.
On that front, Planet Coaster: Console Edition will come with far more pre-built creations so that newcomers can more quickly put a park together, itll support mouse and keyboard you can just plug in and out and itll switch on the fly and theres a Frontier Workshop for sharing user content.
You can browse content like parks, coasters, shops, and scenery items. You can even follow creators, rate items, and edit them. Frontier built up a whole sharing platform to foster the community.

Where Dreams Come True
Planet Coaster has three core modes: Career, Sandbox, and Challenge. Career mode is a longform session where players are given a base theme/groundwork, and are tasked with creating the best theme park they can. Working as the games standard mode, I thought career was a really solid balance of satisfying simulation play, with a good deal of challenges thrown into the mix.
Challenge mode is for the true management tycoons of the world. Putting players in a unique setting and giving them a limited amount of cash, Challenge mode puts true management skills to the test. While the limited number of resources creates for a daunting experience, Challenge mode is a great litmus test of game skill for any experienced park manager.
Sandbox is where players will undoubtedly spend a large chunk of their time in Planet Coaster. Completely letting players off the leash, Sandbox mode allows the imagination to run wild. No longer having to worry about finances or attendee feedback, Sandbox mode is a great place to test out ideas before implementing them in Career or Challenge mode. Or, if youre like me, you just place a bunch of random rides that border on the line of death traps.
