Microsoft Flight Simulator Comes To Xbox Cloud Gaming

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 has finally arrived on Xbox Cloud Gaming. This means that you can now fly the skies of the world from any iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, or Xbox One device, and even via your web browser.

Previously, Flight Simulator was available on PC and Xbox Series S and X with Game Pass Ultimate. However, the simulator had to be stored locally, and you had to meet system requirements to play. Now that it’s on the cloud, you need not worry about any of that, as the Flight Simulator can be streamed from Microsoft’s servers over the internet to your device.

It’s been rumored that Flight Simulator could come to Xbox Cloud Gaming for a while now. But Microsoft was probably waiting for its server blades to be updated to Xbox Series X hardware before pushing the data and resource-heavy title to more gamers via the cloud. That feat began back in June of 2021.

Along with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, some other titles are joining Xbox Game Pass. At the top of the list is Far: Changing Tides Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII There’s also Kentucky Route Zero Lawn Mowing Simulator Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Young Soles

If you’re using the Xbox app on your PC, then note that there are some new optimizations that you can enjoy. Microsoft is rolling out the ability to choose what folder your games get installed to, you can repair and move games, and mod more games. The Xbox app can be updated from the Microsoft Store on Windows.

Would A Physical Disc Of Microsoft Flight Simulator Work On My Xbox One

Image: Asobo Studio

Unfortunately not. Unlike other Xbox discs which use Smart Delivery to leverage the next-gen version, Microsoft Flight Simulator is a completely native next-gen game, meaning you’ll need an Xbox Series X to use the disc.

For Xbox One, you’ll need to use Xbox Cloud Gaming to access the digital version of Microsoft Flight Simulator.

So, while you may not be able to play it now, Flight Sim is on the horizon for Xbox One. Many had hoped it would launch simultaneously on xCloud alongside the Xbox Series X and Series S release, but that hasn’t been the case.

Nevertheless, it’s definitely on the way, but keep in mind you’ll need a strong internet connection to enjoy it.

Will Microsoft Flight Simulator Come To Xbox Series X

With Microsofts next-gen console looming on the horizon, its hard not to wonder whether Microsoft Flight Simulator will debut on the Xbox Series X. A Series X version of Microsoft Flight Simulator has not been announced, but given Microsofts track record with updating and enhancing games like Gears 5 and Forza Horizon 4 for their next-gen machine, a Series X enhanced port of the game seems inevitable. Of course, the team still has to complete the Xbox One version of the game first, but it could launch simultaneously on Xbox One and Xbox Series X if the console version releases after the Series X hits store shelves.

Closure Of The Aces Game Studio

On January 22, 2009, it was reported that the development team was heavily affected by Microsoft’s program of job cuts, with indications that the entire Microsoft Flight Simulator team had been laid off. Microsoft confirmed the closure of the Aces Game Studio on January 26, 2009, in a post on the official FSInsider Web site. stating “This difficult decision was made to align Microsoft’s resources with our strategic priorities. Microsoft Flight Simulator X will remain available at retail stores and Web retailers, the Flight Sim community will continue to learn from and encourage one another, and we remain committed to the Flight Simulator franchise for the long term.”

According to former Aces employee Phil Taylor, the shutdown was not due to sales performance of FSX, but due to management problems and delays in project delivery, combined with increased demand for staff. Speculation in the mainstream and gaming media was that future versions could be released as an Internet-based version, or on Microsoft’s Xbox platform.

In October 2009, two former members of the Aces Game Studio formed a new game studio called the Cascade Game Foundry for the development of simulation games.

Why Microsoft Flight Simulator Isn’t Coming To Xbox One

Microsoft Flight Simulator – Xbox Series X|S Gameplay Trailer – Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2021

Microsoft Flight Simulator has expanded to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, bringing the full scope of its cloud-powered aviation to the couch. The title recreates the globe with satellite imagery, geospatial data, and artificial intelligence, with an original PC release taxing on even the latest high-end rigs. But Microsoft Flight Simulator on Xbox serves as an incredible technical achievement, doubling as a graphical showcase for Microsoft’s best Xbox consoles.

While Microsoft Flight Simulator soon launches on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, it’s also the first Microsoft-published title to skip Xbox One consoles. Microsoft has made it clear that previous-generation devices won’t receive the game, excluding a sizeable install base with older hardware. But why is that the case? Here’s what we know.
