Add Bungie Friends In Destiny 2 Crossplay

Destiny 2 Cross Play For PC, PS4, and XBOX One? – Community Feedback

Destiny 2 CrossPlay allows players to add friends regardless of playing on PlayStation, Xbox, or PC. If you want to play with friends on your platform, add your Bungie friends to the list of fireteam invites that appear on the roster screen in Destiny 2.

Bungie will name every player on the list and call them friends if they are on one of the lists.

How Destiny 2 Crossplay Works Including Cross

Destiny 2 crossplay works through the Bungie Name system, which will be your identity across all platforms you play on. This name is automatically given to you when you first log in during Season of the Lost, and is a backend identifier if friends want to add you on a different system.

This name – as well as how to add Bungie Friends – is explained in more detail in later sections of this page.

In terms of matchmaking, an early worry was whether console players will be up against those on PC who have a mouse and keyboard when it comes to matchmade activities such as Crucible and Gambit, especially as Bungie announced it was targeting “discrepancies” between PC and console weapons.

How it works is – in competitive modes, Destiny 2 will keep players within the same PC or console ecosystem by default unless you are in a mixed Fireteam with a PC player. This means console players will face console players , and PC players will face PC players.

If you are in a Fireteam with at least one PC player, however, then you will enter the PC matchmaking pool.

Finally, know that Bungie is not done with building upon crossplay. Future features include:

  • In-game, cross-platform voice chat coming “soon after launch”
  • Bungie Name changing, text chat display on console and USB text input on console coming “winter”

To make it easier for console friends to search for other players, Bungie will reduce the number of characters used in a Bungie Name. They addressed how some player names on Steam with extended character sets won’t be available. Also, all names will be moderated and filtered to prevent offensive terms. “It is possible that due to removing these characters, players will end up with empty names, or names that result in offensive terms,” Bungie explained. Unfortunately, if players are stuck with an empty or offensive name, they won’t be able to change it at launch and will have to wait a couple of months. Basically, think thrice before creating your Bungie Name.

How To Use Crossplay In Destiny 2

Following Bungie’s reveal of Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, which is now available for preorder, crossplay was officially implemented into Destiny 2 at the start of Season of the Lost. All players across Xbox Live, the PlayStation Network, Steam, and Google Stadia can add each other as friends and play the game together.

If you’re excited to enjoy one of the best Xbox shooters with your friends on other platforms but aren’t sure how to use the new crossplay system, don’t worry. We’re here to help with a quick guide that will explain everything you need to know about using Destiny 2 crossplay.

Bungie Hopes To Give Destiny 2 True Crossplay Next Year

Is Destiny 2 Crossplay With Xbox And Pc

In Bungie’s June 2020 Destiny 2: Beyond Light reveal stream, general manager Mark Noseworthy said the team is “focused on intergenerational play” this year, but that “hopefully next year we can finally do the thing and get playing together in the same ecosystem,” indicating the developer has its sights on true crossplay next. It’s not entirely clear if he meant 2021 or Destiny 2‘s Year 5 when he said “next year,” but given he said this when Destiny 2 was still in Year 3, it’s likely fans will get more concrete news about crossplay sometime in 2021.

Luckily, unlike earlier crossplay games like Fortnite, Bungie faces less challenges in making Destiny 2 playable across console families. In late 2019, Sony opened up crossplay to all developers, ending a long period of only allowing the feature in select games like Rocket League. That said, while Bungie won’t have to deal with console manufacturer restrictions, Destiny 2‘s ever-changing, always online world has led to technical problems in the past, so cross-platform play is likely more complicated than flipping a switch. Destiny 2‘s recent content vaulting was implemented specifically to address its bloating size, though, so hopefully things are now easier to work with in the game’s backend.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light‘s PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions launch on December 8, 2020.

Bungie And Destiny 2 After Activision

Bungie is also likely to detail how the company is going to be moving forward after separating from their publisher, Activision-Blizzard. Bungie announced back in January that they were moving from the publisher and going to handle marketing on their own, but have not yet announced what that means.

Currently, Destiny 2 is sold on PC through the Battle.net, the traditional store for Blizzard games. It has now been revealed through the Engadget leak though that Destiny 2 will be making its way to Steam, likely to the delight of many PC gamers

How To Disable Destiny 2 Crossplay

One of the notable weaknesses of crossplay is that console gamers naturally have a disadvantage against PC players in FPS games. If you find that you despise playing with or against PC players, both Xbox and Playstation users can turn off crossplay if they wish. Do be aware that Bungie considers the Stadia as a console, so you may technically find you will encounter some PC players via the Stadia option.

If you are wondering how to disable the Destiny 2 crossplay feature, we have you covered. It is straightforward, especially on a PlayStation. If you are on PlayStation, you can turn off the crossplay setting within the in-game settings. However, it is a bit more tricky if you are on an Xbox.

Xbox players will need to head into the consoles settings to disable the Destiny 2 crossplay.

When Did Crossplay Arrive In Destiny 2

After plenty of teasers along the way, and even an early test, Destiny 2 crossplay finally went live on August 24 with Season of the Lost.

Guardians across Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and Stadia will be able to join fireteams to take on the Darkness together, Bungie confirmed in a July 29 blog post.

With the major seasonal update the longest in Destiny history players across all platforms are now able to connect in a seamless manner.

All content and all activities can be accessed together, regardless of your hardware.

How Crossplay Works In Destiny 2

destiny 2 forsaken crossplay xbox playstation pc

No different from how you would normally invite friends on your current platform of choice, crossplay lets you bring friends in from all over.

All activities, all Destinations, and all future content is seemingly accessible by mixed Fireteams. One key area that might raise some eyebrows is PVP. Though Bungie clarified that console and PC players wont be joining each other in the Crucible by default.

Instead, PC players need to specifically invite console friends to play with them in the PC Crucible pools.

When it came to the launch of crossplay, everyone had to set a new name in Destiny 2. This is now known as your Bungie Name and serves as a universal name across all platforms.

Therefore, if you play for a few hours on console, then jump over to PC later on, your Bungie Name keeps everything in order.

These Bungie Names were generated automatically at launch based on your current name. However, the devs are looking into a universal name changer tool to launch later in the year.

As Bungie Names took effect, Bungie Friends also took over. This is a new way to keep track of your friends playing across different platforms, allowing you invite teammates with ease, regardless of where they might be playing.

Destiny 2 Trials Of Osiris Rewards: January 7

Players who love to battle it out in competitive PvP action to earn Destiny 2 Trials of Osiris rewards can now see what the week of January 7 has to offer.

Destiny 2s Trial of Osiris has become a staple of Bungies sci-fi shooter, thanks to its heated action, and the rewards for January 7 are now available to see.

One of the most popular game modes that the first-person shooter offers is, no doubt, Trials of Osiris, which is the games competitive multiplayer playlist that allows Guardians to test their skills against other players.

One of the exciting factors of this game mode, besides proving your skills, is the new set of rewards that players can earn with their success every week. Here is the newest set of Trials of Osiris rewards in Destiny 2.

Why Arent All Games Cross Platform

For a lot of games, specifically shooters, it can come down to imbalances with input devices. Keyboard and mouse players had a distinct advantage, even with that aim assist nonsense that seems to feature with some FPS games.

It is also possible that cross play isnt desirable when we think about the different platforms policy enforcement. For example, Sony cant really take action against Steam or Xbox when there is abusive behavior.

Regardless, we would all like the majority of games, if not all, to feature cross platform support as it just makes our lives a lot easier.

That Shadowkeep Came From The Moon

One of the first things data-mined from the Destiny 2 update was an unreleased banner advertising the pre-order for the next big expansion to the franchise: Shadowkeep. As the banner states, this expansion is going to return Guardians to the moon, which was the second planet you explored in the first game, but hasnt seen any players light in the sequel yet.

The banner image shows a giant Hive-like spire with red citadel gates in front of it, hinting that were probably going yet again blast away at the games magic-gothic-space-bug Hive race. There was speculation that year three of Destiny 2 was going to see us fight the Darkness, a race seen traveling in Pyramid-style ships through space which was advertised before the first game came out, and a split-second glimpse showed it in the epilogue cinematic of season one of Destiny 2, but we have not yet seen their appearance as of yet.

Traditionally, Bungie releases these new year expansions in September, and they generally offer new planets to explore, a new storyline, and fix some of the game balancing and mechanics. We can likely expect the same from this expansion.
