Xbox Series S Headset Volume Way Too Low
Please help. About to lose my mind on this one.
I bought both of the new xboxes . The Series S white controller has very little volume with a headset. If I use the black headset that came with the series x on the Series S box, there is no problem with headset volume. I tried two older controllers and both of those controllers work on the new series S with no headset volume problems. I tried to use the new series S white controller on my new xbox series x and had the same problem with headset volume being too low. I am using the same audio settings on both xboxes in both game settings and general settings on the xbox.
I decided that the new white controller must be bad, so I went to Best Buy and bought a new style white controller. I got home and had the same problem. Okay…maybe this one is bad too?
So I went back to Best Buy today and bought a new style Black controller. Got home, did the firmware update and tried it on both boxes . I still have the same problem with both boxes with this new black controller .
To summarize:
Black Controller that came with Series X – Works great on both xboxes
Old Controllers from old xboxes one x and one s: Works great on both new xboxes White Controller that came with Series S – Headset volume problem on both xboxes
Both of the new style xbox controllers bought from Best Buy : Headset problems on both new boxes

Other indications of a problem are a grayed out volume up option in the Xbox One settings, or you appear muted in the in-game chat.
These problems can occur when you first plug in an Xbox One headset, or when the headset is in use. However, you’ll usually notice the issue when you attempt to start a voice chat.

How To Connect Your Headphones To The Xbox One
This part is super simple as long as you’re using the more recent versions of the Xbox One controller. These have the 3.5mm headset jack in the bottom, and so to use them, all you have to do is plug the headphones into the controller.
If you’re using a first-generation Xbox One controller, there is, unfortunately, no headphone jack. As such, you’ll need to invest in a Stereo Headset Adapter. It connects to the bottom of your controller with your headphones hooking up to the bottom of the adapter.
You also get added handy features like volume adjust, chat/game audio mix adjust, and a big old mute button. Even on the later versions of the Xbox One controller , you can gain a fair bit from using one of these.
The official Microsoft one is no longer sold new, although well-known headset maker Turtle Beach has an excellent alternative.

If you are using an Xbox One headset adapter, plug the adapter into the controller, then plug your 3.5-mm headphones into the adapter.
How To Fix Your Xbox One Controller To Recognize Your Headset
Attempt each fix below in order, checking to see if your headset works after each step:
Many of these solutions also apply to fixing Xbox One mic problems.
Make sure the controller is connected to the Xbox One. If it isn’t, fixing an Xbox One controller that won’t connect may also fix the headset issue.
Make sure the headset is firmly plugged into the controller. If the headset isn’t plugged in all the way or isn’t seated properly, it won’t make a good enough connection, and the controller won’t recognize it. Unplug it, then plug it back in.
Make sure the headset isn’t muted. The headset probably has a mute function that may make it seem like the headset isn’t recognized by the controller. Look for a mute button on the left side of the connector that’s plugged into the expansion port on the controller, or an in-line mute switch if you have a 3.5 mm chat headset.
Increase the headset volume. If the headset audio is turned all the way down, you won’t be able to hear anyone. Increase the audio using the buttons on the connector that’s plugged into the controller’s expansion port or the in-line volume wheel.
Increase the console audio input. You can also adjust the volume settings on the Xbox One. Navigate to Settings> Device & accessories, select the controller, then adjust the audio settings.
If the volume option is grayed out, that indicates a problem with either the headset or controller.

Adding A Microphone To Your Headphones

There are some easy, solid ways of adding a microphone to your headphones so you can indulge in a little party chat action on your Xbox One.
One worth investing in is the Antlion Modmic Uni. This is a microphone that you can clip to your headphones to create your gaming headset. You use a splitter to attach the headphones and the microphone, so you can have a full gaming headset essentially plugged into your controller.
The bonus is that you can take the microphone off and then just keep on enjoying your headphones. Not all gaming headsets have a detachable microphone, so you do get the best of both worlds.
