Upcoming Microsoft Xbox Dongle For Gaming And Streaming Media Could Threaten Apple Tv

Microsoft confirmed it is working toward the release of an affordable streaming device that would allow users to play Xbox games and stream media without the need for gaming console.

For years market watchers have noted Microsofts desire to offer gaming services to more people by removing the need to buy an expensive gaming console. A move in that direction resulted in the the Xbox Cloud Gaming platform, a software-based gaming option that works on many devices, including iPhone and iPad.

But the software giant has more plans. Microsoft revealed to Windows Central it is working on new Xbox hardware, codenamed Keystone. Its a streaming device that may be similar to Chromecast and Google Stadia. It will connect to any TV or monitor via HDMI, allowing users to tap into Microsofts vast games catalog. And not just games, but any other streaming content Microsoft chooses to host.

If you have an Xbox, it goes without saying that the best experience is sitting on your couch in front of a big HDR TV with good gaming features. But sometimes your TV isn’t availablemaybe you’re out of the house, someone else is hogging the living room, or youre just too lazy to get out of bed for some Gears of War. Microsoft has you covered with Remote Play, allowing you to stream games from your Xbox right to your phone, tablet, or PC.

It should be noted that this is different from Xbox Cloud Gaming , which streams games from Microsofts own servers to your device. Remote Play renders those games on your home Xbox to another device. The feature doesn’t require an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, but you will need a compatible controller.

Question: Q: How Do I Stream Xbox One Games To My Macbook Pro Without It Crashing

Hi community!

Rarely am I beaten by software. But the lack of discussion on this topic has defeated me.

I’m trying to stream the Xbox one to my late 2015 MacBook Pro with Retina display, and I’m failing to do so. Every time the connection is established, a second after and the whole Xbox app that I’m running in the latest version on windows 10 through the latest version of boot camp, crashes and closes down.

I’ve visited a few forums here and there, with the general theme of the issue being related to the AMD graphics card.

I’m wondering if anyone else with the similar mac and Xbox has had any similar issues.

P.S. I’ve ran the stream test with all test receiving a successful tick mark. I’ve also noticed the app crashes when I’m trying to play a captured video uploaded by the live community.

Any help much appreciated.

HOW TO: Stream Xbox One Games to Mac + Performance Analysis (Using ...

Fast forward to 2017. I had just upgraded my gaming PC so that I could play Player Unknowns Battlegrounds, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I even played it at one of my friends houses remotely, using the steam in home streaming and the VPN I had set up through my router for my Xbox. This route still had occasional lag spikes, especially in a game that is still in early alpha testing. So I started to research the game streaming apps again. I had looked into Kino console before, back when I had my Android phone, and remembered that it was decent, even on 4g cell coverage. Now, I dont remember how I stumbled onto Parsec, but it was probably when I was just searching for a competitor to Kino console.

After installing and configuring my gaming PC with Parsec, and testing it in the house with my MacBook, I put it to the test: playing PUBG at a friends house. With them playing it through parsec on another virtual machine I set up for them, we were both playing PUBG on moderate / high settings, on laptops that had no business playing PUBG. One was a dell laptop from 2011, with an i3 processor, the other was a MacBook Pro running MacOS.

Plug In Your Microphone And Set Up Your Game

Now its time to set up the audio devices for your stream. Take a look at the Audio Mixer area in OBS. It should already have at least the volume bar set up for your desktop. If it doesnt, you can add it manually following the same instructions youre going to use to add your microphone. In OBS, locate the Settings button in the bottom-right area of the application.

Clicking this will open up your settings window. Go ahead and navigate down to the Audio tab. Here you can add or remove audio devices as needed. Make sure that Desktop Audio is set to the correct piece of hardware and then locate the Mic/Aux audio options. You can set your microphone here. When youve selected your mic and desktop audio, return to the main OBS window and you should see your audio coming through in the mixer on the bottom.

Originally, OBS didnt offer native support for Mac desktop audio. This issue has been resolved with updates, though.

The X Button On My Controller Is Not Working

Unfortunately there is an issue with the Xbox Controller USB driver that OneCast is using, that prevents the X button from working correctly with newer Xbox One wireless controllers connected via USB. Please note that this only affects newer controllers bundled with Xbox One S/Xbox One X . Older controllers are not affected.

You can easily resolve this issue by either connecting the controller to your Mac via Bluetooth rather than USB, or connecting the controller directly to your Xbox console. Please see here for details of how to connect the controller via Bluetooth.

We are currently working on a fix and hope to have it resolved soon so that you may use these controllers via USB connection.

The following features are currently not supported by OneCast for macOS:

  • Microphone for voice and in-game chat
  • Vibration feedback for controllers connected to your Mac

We are planning on adding the above features to a future update to OneCast.

In order to use OneCast for macOS, you must have:

  • A Mac running macOS 10.11 or higher
  • Xbox One console
  • A home network , to which both your Mac and Xbox One are connected

Xbox One owners have been able to stream their games to PCs running Windows 10 since 2015, but Mac compatibility has been notably, and expectedly, lacking. A new app, OneCast, promises to deliver the same game streaming experience to macOS for a mere $10.

OneCast claims to be the world’s first Xbox One game streaming client for macOS, offering Mac owners a taste of what Windows 10 users have had access to for some three years.

Previously, no company offered a solution for native streaming to Mac, meaning users had to rely on clunky workarounds like installing Windows 10 via Boot Camp or Parallels. These stopgaps were often buggy and failed to perform well enough to handle fast-paced games.

OneCast promises 1080p video throughput, “extremely low lag” and support for either full-screen or windowed viewing modes. An Xbox wireless controller can be connected to the Mac via USB or Bluetooth after a firmware install, and the app supports multiple Xbox user profiles, making it simple to use different Xbox One consoles or gamertags.

OneCast is currently available as a two-week free trial, while the app is priced at $9.99 for a limited time. On April 1, regular pricing of $20 will go into effect.

Would Parsec Be Able To Solve My Age Old Problem Of Xbox Game Streaming Outside My Home

    One Cast

This got me thinking: Could Parsec be my answer to remote play for the Xbox? When I installed Parsec on my gaming PC, it asked if I wanted to install the controller option, which I did. So I was hoping that would emulate the right type of controller for Windows Store apps . So I tested it with an Xbox 360 controller plugged into my MacBook running Windows 10 , and it worked! So I tested it all remotely, and it was everything I was hoping to get out of remote streaming my Xbox.

Just for kicks, I decided to try to use my steam controller in MacOS through Parsec with the Xbox game streaming app. To my surprise, it worked as well! After everything I had tried for the past 2 years, to get remote game streaming and my steam controller to work with an Xbox, here it was. Finally.

    Prepare Your Xbox For Streaming

Remote Play is supported by the Xbox One, One S, One X, and the newer Xbox Series X and Series S . On your Xbox, open Settings > Devices & Connections > Remote Features and check the Enable Remote Features box. Ideally, you should also change Power Mode to Instant On . Then click the Test Remote Play button to ensure everything is set up properly.

It will let you know if there are any weak links in your system that might lead to a poor experience. You don’t need a fast internet connection if you’re playing at home, but you do need a stable one, so I highly recommend hooking your Xbox up to your network with an Ethernet cable, if possible.

An Ethernet connection will ensure the stream is as stable as possible, so you can game without status or lag. You will probably be stuck on Wi-Fi if you’re streaming to a phone or tablet, so make sure you have good signal from the router from wherever you play. If you want to play your games away from home, you would need a fast enough internet connection to stream that video from your Xbox.

How To Activate Streaming On Your Xbox One

The first step in streaming an Xbox One to PC is to enable streaming on the Xbox One. This is a pretty easy process:

Before you start, make sure your Xbox One and Windows 10 PC have the most recent system updates installed.

  • Open System > Settings.

  • Select Preferences > Xbox app connectivity.

  • Select Allow game streaming to other devices.

Either Allow connections from any device or Only from profiles signed in on this Xbox must be selected. If you share your network with other people, the second option is more secure. Selecting Don’t allow the Xbox app to connect will prevent streaming.
