How To Stream On An Xbox Series X
Streaming to Twitch on an Xbox Series X or Series S is simple, even though Microsofts console doesnt have Twitch integration like the PlayStation 5. Even though the process is simple, Microsoft doesnt tell users how to stream on an Xbox Series X, much less how to do it outside of Twitch. Plus with Microsoft closing down its own streaming service, Mixer, you only really have the Twitch app or a dedicated capture card as streaming options.
Thats what were going to cover in this guide. No matter if you want to set up a simple stream through the Twitch app or get started with a capture card, heres how to start streaming on your Xbox Series X or S.

How To Stream On An Xbox Series X With The Twitch App
You can get started streaming on the Xbox Series X and Series S easily with the Twitch app. You can set up and start your stream directly from the app, no need for an external capture card or broadcasting software. There are a few settings you should adjust before starting your stream. However, if youre already comfortable broadcasting, follow these steps:
Stream Using Your Xbox Or Playstation
While many streamers choose to start streaming with a laptop or computer, the good news is that for most gamers, you have everything you need to start streaming already in your living room. If youâve got a current-gen PlayStation or Xbox, you can be live on Twitch in just a few simple steps.
1. Create a Twitch account from a mobile device or computer. We recommend downloading Twitch on your iOS or Android phone to adjust your stream settings on the fly, which is easy to do with your Stream Manager in the app. Also, donât forget to turn on Two-Factor Authentication to keep your account safe.
2. Download the Twitch Xbox app from the Microsoft Store. Note: you donât need the PlayStation app in order to broadcast from your PlayStation.
3. Personalize your channel by adding elements that reflect your personal brand to set yourself apart. This will help viewers know who you are when they discover your page! You can modify your profile photo and bio on mobile, or customize a number of additional settings via a web browser. Weâve set up an entire Creator Camp page on Personal Branding to show you all of the places you can customize your channel page to reflect you and your brand.
5. The quality of your audio is critical in helping you connect with viewers. There are a few great, affordable headsets with built-in microphone settings, like the Turtle Beach Recon 200, which work for all consoles and PC, that ensure great audio for your stream.

Set Up Your Scene And Start Streaming
Back on the main OBS screen, delete everything under the tab by selecting a source and clicking the Minus button at the bottom of the section. You should already have a scene by default, but if you dont, select the Plus icon under the Scenes tab.
Select the Plus icon under the tab next, then select Video Capture Device. Give the source a name, then click OK. OBS will then show you a menu where you can select your capture card and configure its output.
From this point, you can customize your stream however you see fit. Simply add new sources, move them around your preview window, and segment them into scenes to quickly switch between. When you have a setup you like, click Start Streaming to go live.
If you dont care much for setting up your own scene, we recommend downloading Streamlabs OBS instead of OBS Studio. It comes with a number of templates that you can use to set up your stream in minutes.

Where Has The Broadcast Option Gone On Xbox One
Following Microsofts announcement that Mixer was closing down back in June, the Xbox Ones Broadcast option was removed.
The reason for this was because Mixer was owned by Microsoft, and so simply used your Xbox Live account details as your Mixer account. This allowed for players to literally press the Start Broadcasting option within the Capture menu from the Xbox menu button and start sharing their gameplay with friends and viewers around the world.
Due to Mixers shuttering or merging with Facebook, technically Microsoft has removed the option to begin broadcasting on Xbox One. Whether this will return once Microsoft and Facebooks partnership has developed remains to be seen.

Can I Also Stream To My Phone Or Tablet Devices
You can stream Xbox One to your mobile devices. All you need to do is to install Xbox Remote Play on your phone or tablet. Alternatively, if you have a Windows 10 mobile device, you can just install the Xbox One Companion app. Both methods allow you to play games on your mobile device over the internet.
Similarly, you need to be connected to the same network, or else the apps wont work.

Before we get into the steps, we need to clarify something first. Streaming can refer to two things
Normally, when a person talks about streaming, theyre referring to streaming footage of them playing a video game to a platform, such as YouTube, Twitch, or Facebook. Most of the time, this requires a capture card in the case of a console or NVIDIA ShadowPlay on a PC.
For our guide, well be talking about the second, less common definition. This involves sending the gameplay from your Xbox One to the PC. Youre effectively using your PC to play Xbox One games through a connection to the same network.
You dont need to physically connect the two devices, but being connected to the same network is crucial. As your PC becomes a remote display, theres always some lag, but its still a reliable way to play your Xbox One games on your PC.
Get The Console Ready
These instructions assume you already have an Xbox One or Series X/S registered to your account and ready to stream.
Step 1: Press the Xbox button on the controller.
Step 2: Select Profile & System.
Step 3: Select Settings.
Step 4: Select Devices & Connections.
Step 5: Select Remote Features.
Step 6: Check the box next to Remote Features.
Step 7: Select Instant-On listed under Power Mode.

Stream Xbox One Games To Your Pc
Once youve done all of the above, youre ready to play games. If you havent launched the Xbox One Companion app yet, make sure you do that. Without it, you wont be able to stream the games to your PC.
Once youre done playing, you must press Esc to stop streaming. Alternatively, you can use your mouse and click a button to do that. There are also other options such as turning your mic on and bandwidth information that you can access by moving your mouse and selecting the screens.
How Else Can I Stream On Xbox One
Your best alternative to Broadcasting to Mixer is to download the Twitch App on your Xbox One.
Once this is downloaded, load up the game that youd like to stream. Once its loaded, press the Xbox button on your controller to open up the guide and select the Twitch app. Press A to load it up.
Next, select the Broadcast tab within the Twitch app. Fill in the details such as your stream title and confirm other settings. When youre done, select Start Streaming and press A. You should now be streaming directly from your Xbox One to Twitch.

Streaming Via Films & Tv App
Sending media to the Films & TV app is another easy way to stream media to your XBox One but not as easy and straightforward as the Cast to Device method.
1. Select video or multimedia to be streamed
2. Right click on the content and select Open with from the list of pop-up menu.
3. Afterwards, select the Films and TV app and your content should begin playing
4. On the bottom-placed menu of the Films & TV app, click on the three-dotted icon and select Cast to Device
5. On the list of devices, find and click on XBox One and your media should begin playing on your console.
Im Having Connectivity Issues
You must have an Open or Moderate NAT type home network for everything to work properly. Be sure to look at your router and confirm that the settings are adjusted accordingly. Microsoft has info on NAT types that may benefit you, so feel free to check that out. If you want to look at the NAT type your console is currently using, all you have to do is head to Settings > General > Network Settings.
If you notice lagging while streaming the Xbox One to a mobile device, switch off your devices Wi-Fi for a second, turn it back on, and then restart the Xbox app again. If your Xbox One is wired to the network, youll most likely experience improved performance. However, keep in mind that functionality will differ when youre streaming your Xbox to your Android device with a mobile connection.
Here are a few suggestions from Microsoft:
- Dont connect your mobile device to a Wi-Fi extender.
- Dont use a VPN.
- Dont cast to a second screen .
- Use a 5GHz Wi-Fi connection.
- Turn off Detect Suspicious Networks and Wi-Fi Power Savings Mode on Android.
- Clear the app cache on Android.
- Enable High-Performance Mode on your device, if available.

On Mobile Play Your Games
These instructions assume you already have an Xbox One and its registered to your account. The Xbox app now includes a Set Up a Console tool, but its only for setting up a new console, so ignore it.
Step 1: Open the Xbox app.
Step 2: Sign in to the same Microsoft Account used to access your Xbox One console.
Step 3: Tap the My Library icon. It resembles a stack of books.
Step 4: Tap Consoles.
Step 5: Tap the Xbox One console registered to your account.
Step 6: Tap the Remote Play on This Device option on the pop-up menu. Alternatively, you can tap the console button on the home screen to access and stream from your Xbox One.
Note: The Set Up a Console button is used for just that its not specific to game streaming. Its a convenient way to get the console ready via a mobile device rather than having to fumble with a controller.
