How To Share Xbox Live Gold With Family Members

As a by-product of the Xbox One policy of allowing you to use your games anywhere by signing in to your Microsoft Account, you can share your entire Xbox One library with a friend or family member. Your Xbox One account can be signed into two consoles at any one time, locally, and over the internet.

Things To Remember With Xbox Gameshare

Xbox gameshare is a fantastic feature for families and friends, but you do have to keep in mind a few caveats. You can only swap your home Xbox five times a year. This restriction likely exists so that people dont abuse the system and trade out their Xbox to people they dont know very well. You also cant share account-specific items like in-game currency, purchased in-game items, and pre-order bonuses.

Its also worth reiterating that if you share your account and a friends account, only one of you needs Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass. This could be a deal you work out with them, but just dont double up on subscriptions if you dont need to!

Lastly, if you own both an Xbox One and a Xbox Series X or S, the home Xbox option applies cross generation. Unfortunately, you cant assign more than one console to an account.

Xbox gameshare is a welcome feature now that Microsoft has a huge library of games that work on both the Xbox One and the Xbox Series X and S consoles. In total, the entire setup only takes a few minutes and youll be able to start playing with the added bonus of sharing any future games you purchase with your friends or family.

Xbox Game Pass For Families And Households: Where Is The Family Plan

I get this question a lot. Where exactly is a family plan for Xbox Game Pass? Is it something that could realistically happen? And what could be potentially holding it up?

Xbox Game Pass is Microsoft’s all-you-can-eat gaming service, taking cues from Netflix and Spotify. For a relatively low monthly fee, you gain access to hundreds of the best Xbox games to play whenever you want. With Xbox Game Pass Ultimate’s cloud gaming tier, you can even stream those games to an Android smartphone, with a web version for iOS and PC coming later on.

Xbox Game Pass may seem similar to Spotify and Netflix on the surface, but the similarities are only skin deep. Unlike Netflix, retail buy-to-own native versions of games remain popular, and Xbox Game Pass may actually even be helping drive retail sales of games, unlike Netflix and Spotify, which are potentially killing retail sales in their respective industries. In any case, there is one major advantage Netflix, Spotify, and others have over Xbox Game Pass the inclusion of a family plan, for sharing the subscription within a single household.

Why doesn’t Xbox Game Pass have this? And are we likely to see it in the future?

Xbox Game Pass For Households Is Probably On The Way

I’ve heard several times over the years from trusted sources that Microsoft has long been exploring some form of Xbox Game Pass for households and families. It’s certainly something that is at least on their mind. That doesn’t mean it will materialize in reality for certain, due to the licensing complexity, but I personally believe that it’s probably on the way in some form. Whether that’s the full Xbox Game Pass library sharing only to child accounts, a “lite” version with Microsoft’s IP only, or the full-blown thing based on IP addresses or people within your Microsoft Family, I have no idea. What I do know is that Microsoft already has these features for Office 365, so it’s not as if there’s no precedent within the company for this sort of feature.

Xbox Game Pass is still definitely a work in progress, with new features always in the works, alongside Xbox Series X upgrades for the cloud streaming servers. A family-sharing plan or policy would be wildly popular I expect, and it’s certainly something I hope Microsoft can deliver in the near future.

Xbox One Lets Households Share One Xbox Live Gold Subscription Across Multiple Accounts

Earlier this year, Microsoft discontinued its Xbox Live Gold Family Pack, an option for families to purchase multiple Gold memberships at a reduced rate. It now appears that it’s making its way back to the Xbox One in one way or another. Polygon reports that multiple accounts will be able to share an Xbox Live Gold membership from a console.

“Anybody who has usage privilege on that machine can use it,” says Microsoft’s Phil Harrison, indicating that the system could be familiar to the Family Pack method of assigning Xbox Live Gold to additional accounts. Discussing the family aspect, Harrison describes a way for a father and son to have separate accounts while sharing the same Xbox Live Gold subscription. “We want you log in to get your stuff, and when he logs in to get his stuff. On that console, if you have Gold, he can use Gold as well.”

A justification for the ongoing Live cost?

Some Vital Points You Need To Know Before Gamesharing

Undoubtedly gamesharing is surprisingly amazing but also has some restrictions and risks as well. So before opting for gamesharing, here have a look at some downsides and potential risks:

  • How does gameshare work on Xbox One: First, you and your friend, family member , both need Xbox One system and your accounts with games you like to access you can also share your entire digital game library. And as you have those, you are ready to share games across entire Microsofts Xbox One consoles.
  • Well this is obvious, but still we recommend you set up gamesharing with trusted friends or family members. The person with whom you are sharing can purchase through your account on Xbox Store, so be alert about the information you save on the account.
  • Gamesharing supports digital-only if you like buying physical copies of games, then this is not going to work with gamesharing. The physical games that come on the disc will work only on the console where the disc is inserted.
  • Restricted to Two People Microsoft allows changing the home Xbox five times each year, from the first time you switch it. And there is limited to two-person you and your friend and you cant share the account with more than one person.
  • So, these are some limitations and downside of the game sharing on Xbox One consoles.
