You might have heard of Twitch before, but are you still wondering what exactly is it?
Twitch is an online platform that allows people from around the world to watch content live via the internet or an app, similar to how baseball fans might watch their favorite team on TV. This process is known as “streaming.”
Many internet personalities have found attention and success by streaming gameplay of popular video games on Twitch you might have heard of Twitch Plays Pokémon back in 2014.
Follow this guide and you’ll be able to stream to Twitch from your Xbox One just like your favorite streamers.
Plan The Content You Want To Stream
Twitch is now home to many different types of content. Well get into all the great things you can live stream a bit later, but for now, you should understand that different types of content require different gear.
For example, creating good ASMR content requires high-quality microphones or even specialized gear such as the 3Dio Free Space binaural microphone. That type of gear might not be readily available in your local store, and if it is, it might come with a hefty price tag. Plan your content so you can plan your gear.

Of course, streaming isn’t just about people watching you play. Viewers have also come to be entertained. Any streamer worth their salt will have a great mic to enable them to talk to and engage with their audience while they work their gaming magic.
Ideally, you want a good quality mic that blocks out surrounding noise, focusses on your voice and sounds great too.
We have written a separate guide to the best microphones for gamers and content creators, but for serious streamers who want the very best, we’d highly recommend the Shure SM7B combined with a GoXLR pre-amp.
squirrel_widget_307673
These two make for a serious pairing. The Shure SM7B is a studio-quality microphone that delivers rich, high-quality audio that’s undeniably superb.
Combine it with the GoXLR or GoXLR Mini and you’ve then got the power you need as well as awesome on-the-fly controls for adjusting things like game, voice chat and music audio levels while you stream.
The result is a much more professional sounding stream with a highly professional vibe. The bonus is, with a few tweaks within the GoXLR software, you can adjust the sound levels to block out irritating background noise like the hum of an air conditioner, the whirr of your PC’s fans or the click-clack of your keyboard. The result is sublime.
How To Connect Your Xbox To Obs Studio
The first step is to connect your Xbox to your PC and import the video into OBS Studio. For this, you’ll need your capture card and two HDMI cables. If you use an external capture card you’ll also need the USB cable it came with to hook it up to the PC.
Connect the HDMI output from the Xbox to the HDMI input on the capture card.
Connect the HDMI output on the capture card to an HDMI input on whichever display you want to play games on.
From the dropdown box, select your capture card.
This is the first step to using the output from your Xbox console with OBS. Depending on your capture card, the stock settings should be 1080p resolution at 60 FPS. But this only concerns the input to OBS Studio. To ensure you’re getting a good-looking output, you’ll need to do some tweaks to the settings. And depending on your capture card you may still be getting 4K and HDR outputs to your display.
The good news is that the way the Xbox handles audio means you won’t need to do anything fancy to ensure both you and your stream can hear your games. It’s more awkward on the PS5, but the only thing you need to do in OBS for Xbox is lower the capture card audio slider to make sure it isn’t drowning you out on the stream. The audio itself is pulled from the HDMI output on the console.

Managing Your Live Stream
While youre playing your game and streaming, its best to keep an eye on the chat room. Its recommended to have a secondary device next to you while youre playing, such as your smartphone, a tablet, or a laptop.
With your smartphone and tablet you can easily open up the app, and manage the chat from there. However, having a laptop by your side will be much easier since you can quickly navigate or fix certain things that you may have missed.
A great tool that Twitch actually provides is the Dashboard, which will look like this: www.twitch.tv/username-here/dashboard.
From this area, you can update your Go Live notification, the title of your stream, the game, your communities, and other resourceful widgets.
Dont forget that you can also use the bot commands youve set up with StreamElements to share any information your viewers may ask.
Another benefit of using StreamElements is the loyalty system. While watching your stream, viewers earn points that can be redeemed in your stream store, games and song request.
Finally, after youre done streaming, StreamElements will send you a Stream Report which shows a bunch of data that happened on your stream like followers, chatters, and revenue.
How To Use A Webcam On Mixer For Xbox One
Once your webcam has been connected, you’ll need to enable your camera for it to be displayed as a part of your live stream. When initializing a broadcast from the Guide menu, your webcam should be automatically detected, enabling the ability to turn your camera on.
Your camera overlay can also be configured to your liking, with options to change the positioning and zoom of your camera feed on-stream. These options, alongside a preview of your camera, can be found on the Broadcast tab under “Change camera settings.”

How To Get Good At Streaming On Twitch
On Twitch, success is measured by the distribution of hours watched. A very limited number of top streamers, four thousand of them, hold three-quarters of live hours watched. Twitch has around 9 million monthly streamers, so the math is obvious. A lot of people arent getting many eyeballs on their content.
Youll need to put in a bit more effort than just learning how to stream on Twitch if your goal is to find a place among the successful streamers. Creating your success strategy starts with the most important aspect: content.
Settings Within The Twitch
When the Twitch app is started for the first time, some preferences still have to be set. These include:
Kinect camera
You can set whether the video of the facecam should be shown on the screen and if so, where. Depending on the game, the UI is in different locations, so make sure that you dont cover important elements with your camera image. Of course streaming from the Xbox One also works with most USB headsets available on the market
Kinect microphone
Select whether your users can hear you by enabling Enable microphone. Also adjust the volume of the microphone in relation to the in-game sound so that it does not drown out your voice completely. When buying a microphone, you must first make sure that it is compatible with your Xbox.
Twitch overlay
Finally, you can decide whether you want to use the twitch overlay as a permanently displayed sidebar or in a minimized version. In the minimized version, you can access the functions of the app using the snap function of the home menu.
Stream settings
Now you only have to give your stream a name and select the game you want to stream. In the future, you can also start your stream outside of the app by simply using the Kinect command Xbox, Broadcast! On your mark, get set, stream!

Connecting Your Twitch And Xbox Accounts
To make sure your Xbox One broadcasts to your Twitch account you’ll need to perform an initial connection using your computer. After your Twitch account is linked to your Xbox One, you won’t need to do it again unless you replace your console or change Twitch accounts.
Go to the official Twitch website in your web browser on your computer and login.
On your Xbox One, open the Twitch app and click the Log In button. The app will give you a six-digit code.
On your computer, in the same browser that you logged into Twitch, visit the special activation webpage and enter the code from the app.
Power Up Your Live Streaming Setup
If youre looking to add some power to your streaming setup to make it better at handling whatever game you want to throw at it, adding a dedicated streaming PC is a great way to do it. If youre running a two-PC setup, youll want the one with more processing power to handle the streaming. And youll need a capture card.
Capture cards come in internal and external variants. The internal cards must be physically installed onto the streaming computers motherboard and then connected with the gaming PC via HDMI. The external cards connect via USB to the streaming computer on one end and via HDMI to the gaming computer on the other end. After that, you only have to add the capture card as a source in OBS.
If youre using a PC-console setup, the main difference is that the capture card sits in between the console and the TV or computer monitor. Use the in HDMI port to plug the console into the card and the out HDMI port to connect the card with the display or TV. Again, simply add the card in OBS Studio as a source, and youre set.
