How To Perform A Soft Reset On Xbox Series X

How to Power Cycle / Hard Reset your XBox One X

If youre encountering freezing, stuttering, or other hiccups with your Xbox Series X or Series S, you may not need to perform a full factory reset. By default, the Turn Xbox off option that comes up when holding down the Xbox button doesnt actually turn off your console. Like the PS5 and Microsofts last-gen machines, this option puts your Xbox into a rest mode.

First, on this same menu, select Restart console. This option completely restarts the system, including a full power down. In the majority of cases, performing a restart is enough to resolve most issues.

If that doesnt solve your problem, head into the Settings menu and follow General > Power mode & startup. There, select Full shutdown and wait for your Xbox to power off before removing the power cable. Plug the power cable back in after a few seconds, then boot your Xbox up.

This process will solve issues like games getting stuck on the splash screen and updates not finishing, among other problems. If youre solely troubleshooting, we recommend performing this step before resorting to a proper reset. Although there is an option to keep your games and apps, restarting your console is faster and it can resolve the most common Xbox Series X problems.

Best Time To Sell Your Xbox One Console

In previous years, mid-generation Xbox hardware focused on delivering a new form factor, with minor features thrown in to entice new buyers. Ultimately, the core gaming experience has stayed the same until the Xbox One X.

But with the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, this marks a significant change for the industry, far distanced from the Xbox One family. As a result, the value of legacy Xbox One hardware has dropped as marketing shifts toward the hottest setup.

That’s not to say there isn’t demand for the original Xbox One. Finding an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S through the launch window is challenging, and many upcoming games play on Xbox One consoles. Selling your device sooner will still return more cash, especially as availability improves.

Step 7: If you have an OS version other than the ones listed above, youll need to perform two offline updates. As is the case with the Xbox One S and Xbox One X, youll need a USB drive with at least 4GB of space, formatted to NTFS . If your OS version is 6.2.9781.0, download OSU3 from Microsoft. If its anything else, youll need OSU2.

Step 9: Turn off your console.

Step 10: After its completely powered off, plug in your USB device.

Throw In Games And Accessories

How to Factory Reset an Xbox One

Have a spare controller? A cheap headset? Make sure to throw that in with your console. If you’re handling the sale of your console, adding accessories of any kind will add more value to the overall package .

From the buyer’s eyes, adding extra items will reduce the additional money they have to spend alongside a console. A few games will go a long way, too, whether or not they’re hugely popular. Putting together enough items to create a basic “starter kit” for new gamers will drive up the package’s value and help stand out from other sellers.

Do note, though, all of your existing peripherals remain functional on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S if you upgrade. So don’t sell your best Xbox One headset thinking it’s going to stop working.

Selling Your Xbox One On Ebay

As one of the most popular online auction sites, eBay serves as a platform for thousands of second-hand Xbox One sales monthly. Provided that you’re asking for a reasonable price and offering enough photos and descriptions, it’s not difficult to get traction with a sale on eBay.

Before listing your item, take a look around at the pricing of Xbox One consoles currently for sale. Right now, Xbox One 500GB models are fetching close to $150 or lower, and Xbox One X is reaching $250. This increased value comes from a direct sale to the buyer with no third party in the middle taking their cut. eBay does take a small cut of the profit when selling through their site, so make sure your earnings don’t diminish over other methods.

When listing an Xbox One console on eBay, make sure to present the console professionally with an in-depth description and high-quality photos. Other bonuses, such as fast shipping and additional accessories, will help your listing stand out from the crowd.

Why It’s Important To Listen For Power

The two noises signal that the Xbox has successfully identified the USB drive-in. It is critical to listen for those two tones, as they tell your system to begin updating automatically. The lack of those sounds or the power-down ding means that a potential error has occurred or there was an unsuccessful attempt at an update. If this happens, its a good idea to go ahead and restart the process altogether. If youve tried it a few times without any luck, we suggest you contact Microsoft for technical support.
