Xbox Series X Restock Tracker: Where To Look If You Missed The Walmart Drop Today
Here’s what we know about the next Xbox Series X restock.
There have been two Xbox Series X restocks so far this week, the most recent happening at Walmart earlier today. This restock has now sold out, but there’s likely to be another restock this week.
With shipping times starting to slip dangerously close to Dec. 25, this really is the best week to get in on an Xbox restock for the holidays. There’s no other confirmed restock event planned from any of the major retailers this week, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see a surprise restock sometime this week. Here are some quick tips for catching a surprise Xbox restock:
- Timing: Unannounced restocks typically happen after 10 a.m. PT unless they come from Target, which tends to drop them before 6 a.m. PT .
- Walmart, GameStop and Best Buy have membership subscriptions that frequently offer early access to restocks, but they’re not always required. Even if you don’t pay for early access, you should still create an account with these retailers for faster checkout.
- Install the app for your preferred retailer — they’re often faster to use than the websites — but it’s better to use both.

Multiplayer Design Is Sometimes To Blame
Depending on the type of game you’re playing, ideal conditions sometimes aren’t replicable due to the nature of a game’s online infrastructure. Although most of today’s titles launch with stable multiplayer functionality, approaches to networking have infamously harmed certain games from the outset. Two common approaches to online networking are often seen nowadays: peer-to-peer networking or dedicated servers.
Dedicated servers are becoming increasingly popular, with a central server hosted solely to accommodate multiplayer matches. Often hosted in a central location with low latency unrivaled by other solutions, this setup can reduce any form of noticeable lag within the capabilities of the host. Provided dedicated servers are hosted across the globe, lag is less common with this type of technology.
P2P networking relies solely on player networks to host multiplayer matches, using one of the player’s consoles as a central server. Although this is a considerably cheaper option to develop, using a home connection to host multiplayer matches can result in undesirable latency and interruptions not seen with dedicated servers.
Xbox Wont Let Me Sign In

When using Xbox One, you can play with gamers from the greatest community on the most advanced multiplayer network as long as you use Xbox Live. Xbox Live is the online service for Xbox One. With a free account of Xbox Live, you can experience the hottest games, HD movies, TV shows, apps, live events, etc.
That being said, the connection is not always perfect. Many users run into a connection error or get a prompt saying Xbox cant sign in along with an error code like 0x87DD0006, 0x80048047, 0x80a4001a, etc.
If Xbox cant sign in or Xbox keeps logging you out, the main reason may be human error or a problem with Xbox Live. Fortunately, you can fix the Xbox sign-in problem.

Check Data Usage In The Settings App
Before attempting to reduce your Xbox One’s data usage, it’s good to get a rough idea of the bandwidth your console uses at this point in time. That ensures your Xbox One’s data use is worth addressing while also providing insight into your estimated savings after applying the following tips. Luckily, an in-depth breakdown of bandwidth use is tucked away within the Xbox One’s Settings application.
A log of your console’s data use should now be displayed on the screen, with hourly figures for the past 24 hours alongside usage breakdowns on a per-month basis. This should give you an idea of how much data your console currently consumes and how it relates to any data caps you may have in place.
Close All Games And Apps
Due to the nature of the Xbox One’s OS, resources are prioritized for games and apps that are currently active. While this ensures a smooth overall experience, downloads can see reduced speeds when left running in the background. Software that also requires significant bandwidth, such as streaming applications, may also impact this speed.
To ensure content is downloaded at the fastest possible rate, close all games and apps currently running on the console. Alternatively, if you’re using the Xbox One’s instant-on power mode, games can be downloaded while the console is in a sleep state.

Setting Up Your Xbox Online
First, youll need to create an XTag, the XLink Kai equivalent of your Xbox gamertag. This can be done on their website.
Next, youll need to download and install the XLink Kai software. XLink Kai serves as a tunnel software, and it will make it so your Xbox can connect to the new servers via your router. The downloads can be found here, and XLink Kai frequently updates on its own once you have it downloaded.
The last major step is setting up your network/firewall. There are several ways to do this, with the simplest way is through your router, as you can connect your console and XLink Kai directly to the router and XLink will be able to easily locate your console to connect it to its servers. If your router blocks access to XLink Kai, youll need to perform a port-forward to get it to work.
However, its worth checking the site for all the methods of connecting your console to XLink Kai so that you can find what works best for you.

Why Is The Xbox Tough To Find
Essentially, Microsoft hasn’t been able to get the materials it needs to make enough Xbox consoles to meet demand. As with the PlayStation 5 and most PC video cards, there’s a chip shortage right now that is slowing supply. The pandemic affected production for a lot of chip manufacturers, and industry watchers currently don’t expect the issue to be entirely resolved until the end of the year.
As a result, Microsoft makes as many consoles as it can and distributes them among its retail partners. Each retailer releases its available consoles in whatever way it deems appropriate. Most of the time, this means announcing ahead of time when you’ll be able to buy the console online and then releasing it for anyone to buy.
Check out this full breakdown on the chip shortage by CNET’s Stephen Shankland for more details.

How Can I Improve My Chances Of Getting An Xbox Series X
It can be a little chaotic, constantly refreshing the screen and hoping to see a checkout link. And as many can attest, it’s pretty painful to punch in your payment information only to see that the purchase can’t be completed because all the consoles are already gone. Here are some of our tips:
- Open multiple browsers: Got a laptop? A phone? Maybe a tablet? Use them all to try to make the purchase. Set yourself up ahead of time with multiple browsers open to the retail site of your choice and be ready to buy from all of them.
- Don’t give up: Many of these retailers have started releasing the consoles over the course of 30 minutes, to keep bots from buying them all and reselling them at a price increase. If you see everything is sold out after the first 5 minutes, keep refreshing because your chance probably isn’t gone yet.
- Have an account set-up and signed-in: The time it takes to enter your payment and shipping information can be the difference between getting your console and getting left in the dust. Avoid that delay by setting up an account on the websites you’ll be shopping on.
- Make sure you have a confirmation email: There have been many reports of a purchase getting “stuck” and even though the website said the sale was complete, no confirmation email arrived and then no Xbox arrived. Keep an eye out and make sure you actually have an Xbox Series X headed your way before celebrating.

Turn Off Cloud Saves For One Console

The second option is to keep saved games in the cloud and turn off cloud saves for a single console.
You can find this by going into settings, then system and selecting storage. One of the options will be the primary storage device normally, this is the internal hard drive.
Under system items youll see the cloud storage console copy. You should select and delete this. There will be a prompt asking you to confirm that you want your saved games to remain in the cloud and for your console to stop syncing with any future updates to the file.

Initial Unveiling And Launch
Prior to the official unveiling, a rumor had circulated that the next Xbox console would be an “always on” system requiring a persistent Internet connection, though Microsoft had not confirmed this. This had drawn some concerns from consumers, which were heightened when Microsoft Studios employee Adam Orth stated in a message in April 2013 that said, “Sorry, I don’t get the drama around having an ‘always on’ console…Every device now is ‘always on.’ That’s the world we live in. #dealwithit”. Orth’s message drew further ire towards Microsoft, with concerns about digital rights management and practices against the sale of used games with an “always on” unit. Orth opted to leave Microsoft a few days later due to the backlash. Despite Microsoft’s statements following the situation, denying the rumors, the mood it created lingered over the next several months.
In response to these pre-launch changes and a belief that Microsoft’s initial decisions for the console were in poor judgement, journalists and consumers jokingly gave the Xbox One nicknames such as the “Xbox 180”, in reference to the Xbox 360 and Microsoft’s decision to reverse its controversial decisions, and “Xbone”, suggesting that the company was “throwing a bone” to consumers by making these changes.
