Game Audio Through Headset Without Adapter
I apologize if I overlooked a thread where this has already been answered, but everything I found dealt with the adapter.;
So, my living room with all of my consoles is right next to my room mate’s bedroom. As I am usually awake pretty early, it would be great if I could use headphones for game audio. Unfortunately, I just can’t seem to make that work. The settings I’ve found on the console only seem to affect chat audio. Any solutions?;
More info: My controller does have the 3.5 mm jack, so I’m hoping to avoid buying the adapter. Also, I’ve been trying to use my Bose QC15 headphones
Thanks in advance!
When headphones are plugged into the controller, there should be an option to adjust the “headset volume” .
When headphones are plugged into the controller…
- Double-tap the Xbox Guide button.
- Go down to the “Settings” icon .
- You should see a bunch of volume slider settings underneath the “All Settings” option.
- Headset mic
- Mic Monitoring
If you don’t see all those volume options, your Xbox might need a simple power cycle. Then you can try the steps above again.
The game audio through the controller works just fine with my pair of Bose QuietComfort 25 headphones.
Hopefully this helps!

I have a number of HD-DVD rips that I am having issues streaming to my Xbox One. After a bit of testing, the issue seems to happen when the audio is E-AC3 5.1 . In all , when the audio is E-AC3 5.1, the audio is direct streamed and the video and audio is super choppy.

How To Connect A Gaming Headset To Pc
This ones dead simple. Most of the time, all you have to do is plug a headset in and itll work. Depending on how involved the headsets features are, your computer might need to install some drivers, but that should be an automatic process.
After everythings installed, just make sure your computer is using your gaming headset for audio input and output. Normally this happens automatically, but sometimes things can get a little jumbled. Just left-click the little speaker icon on the right and make sure the correct device is selected. Its also probably a good idea to make sure apps like Discord are also set correctly, so check out the audio settings menu there too.
Left-clicking the speaker icon will let you choose which audio device you want to use.
Thats all it takes to get almost any gaming headset up and running on PC, but often theres actually a little more to accessing its full features. Depending on the model of headset, there may also be a particular app to install. Most of the time, the apps are like Logitech G Hubmainly meant to keep the LEDs of your various peripherals coordinated. However, sometimes theyre more like Audezes Mobius app , offering customization options for EQ and a host of other features.
These apps are typically optional additions, so youll need to read up on your particular headset to see what software is available and whether its worth downloading.
Adding A Microphone To Your Headphones
There are some easy, solid ways of adding a microphone to your headphones so you can indulge in a little party chat action on your Xbox One.
One worth investing in is the Antlion Modmic Uni. This is a microphone that you can clip to your headphones to create your gaming headset. You use a splitter to attach the headphones and the microphone, so you can have a full gaming headset essentially plugged into your controller.
The bonus is that you can take the microphone off and then just keep on enjoying your headphones. Not all gaming headsets have a detachable microphone, so you do get the best of both worlds.

Audio On Both Headset And Tv Speakers
I just bought a Xbox One X and when I plug in a headset to the controller the audio is on both the TV and headset. How do I make the audio only output to the headset plugged into my controller? BTW I have tried different controllers changing the party chat settings and audio outputs settings and nothing changes it. I also tested the same controllers with the same headset on windows 10 and it behaves correctly. When the headset is plugged in the audio is directed from PC to Headset and when unplugged the audio is redirected to the PC. Is the Xbox bad or is this normal behavior?

Have No Fear The Doc Is Here
Chances are you just bought a brand new $200+ headset from somewhere like Astro Gaming. Youre excited, and you just hook up your headset to your system without even giving it a second thought. Then suddenly you realize you cant get your mic to work. You fiddle with a ;few options, you finally plug the headset directly into the chat adapter, you get the mic to work, but now your headset is only coming out in stereo. Now youre upset and rightfully so, its all very confusing.
The MixAmp and the Xbox One chat adapter are fighting over the audio encoding. The chat adapter essentially renders the Astro MixAmp useless, but theres a way to correct this without too much effort!
Which Bluetooth Headphones Work With Xbox One
Technically, the answer to that question is “none.” Whether it’s PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo, none of the current generation consoles natively support Bluetooth audio. They have Bluetooth capabilities, but they’re basically just there for wireless controller connectivity. That said, the word “technically” always leaves some space for exceptions, and that’s the case here, even if said exceptions aren’t ideal.
If you already have a pair of Bluetooth headphones that you really like, there’s no need to sink into despair just yet. There is a workaround that we’ll get to shortly. The good news is there are a bunch of wireless gaming headsets built with Microsoft’s special “Xbox Wireless” technology in mind. Microsoft has a special page on its online storefront just for Xbox-compatible headsets. Some of the most noteworthy models include:
I’ll also take a second to shout out Microsoft’s official solution, the aptly named Xbox Wireless Headset. It costs $100 and works with the Xbox One and the newer Xbox Series consoles. The only real issue is that, like anything else that’s related to the next-gen consoles, it can be hard to find in stores.
Most of the other options listed above cost more, but you may find them easier to snag. Of course, these things change over time, so the Xbox Wireless Headset probably won’t be rare forever.

How To Control Audio Without The Adapter
If you don’t have inline volume controls, you’ll have to control the audio on the console directly. It’s not difficult, although, with the latest update to the Xbox One dashboard, the audio controls are a little more hidden. Follow these steps:
Scroll to the bottom to the speaker icon.
Press the A button.
You’ll now have options for enabling and disabling any microphone attached, adjusting volume, mic monitoring, and the mix of game audio to party chat.
How To Get Game Volume Through Your Xbox One Headset
So you want to run your game audio through your Xbox One headset, easy right? Well, not exactly. The first issue you might face is that there are actually two different versions of the Xbox One controller. The first and older version has a proprietary port which requires a separate stereo adaptor in order to allow for a headset to be plugged in. The second and current version actually has a 3.5mm jack which you can plug a headset into.
Doing either will allow you to channel the games volume through to your headset. By default, the audio should automatically switch to your headset when you plug it in, if not, there are some things you must do first. Open up your Xbox Dashboard and go into the Settings menu. From here, youre going to want to select Display and Sound and then find the Volume option. This will open up several settings which allow you to channel game audio through your headset, speakers or both. Its worth noting that you can also choose where your chat audio comes through as well, under the same menus. This should allow you to adjust the game volume through your Xbox One headset.
If youre having issues with the audio not coming through, you may have to go and update your controller. To do so, ensure you are connected to Xbox Live and head to the Settings menu on the Dashboard. Select Devices and Accessories then Update on the selected controller. Wait for the update to install and then go through the same steps as above.

Connecting your headset to your controller. There are two ways to connect your headset: a 3.5-mm headphone jack, or the Xbox One headset adapter. If you are using an Xbox One headset adapter, plug the adapter into the controller, then plug your 3.5-mm headphones into the adapter.
Can You Connect Your Headset Directly To Your Xbox

Simply find the pairing button on the headset and once it’s in pairing mode, press the pair button on the Xbox console itself. It’s the same as connecting a new controller to the console. Unless something bizarre happens, it should only take a few seconds.
