How To get 120 HZ / FPS On Xbox One S / X!!

One area where Xbox Series S benefits significantly is in terms of load times. Thanks to its super-fast SSD, games will load much quicker than they would on Xbox One S, so if you hate waiting around for your games to start, or simply want to upgrade your existing experience, the Series S is the way to go.

Warzone Pacific Dev Responds To Low Fps Issues On Xbox Series X

Xbox players have been suffering from low FPS on Warzone Pacific Caldera, but a senior Raven Software dev has now responded to the issue.

Warzones Pacific update appears to have reverted the Xbox Series X|S consoles 120 FPS mode, forcing players to play Caldera at 60Hz. Now, a senior Raven Software developer has responded to the issue.

FPS is an ever-important statistic in shooters, where high frames-per-second will improve your reaction time and make the game feel smoother and more pleasant to play.

Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 consoles can run Warzone at 120 FPS double the 60 FPS that PS4s and Xbox Ones can handle. However, it appears that the Warzone Pacific Season 1 update removed the 120FPS feature from Xbox Series consoles, and now a senior developer has responded to the issue.

Xbox players have become extremely frustrated with the issue, and one player brought up the issue to Raven Softwares Creative Director Ted Timmins.

Daniel Hart said that they can no longer get 120 FPS while playing on the Xbox Series X and asked Timmins if the team are aware of it and if there will be a fix.

I play on Xbox Series X too so Im in the same boat, responded Timmins. Team is aware but Ill find out why its not on the Trello board.

Best Warzone Type 11 Perks & Equipment

  • Perk 1: Cold-Blooded
  • Lethal: Throwing Knife
  • Tactical: Stim

Before you switch to Ghost, youll want to opt for Overkill on your first loadout to pair this long-range killing machine with a close-range option. The PPSH and MP40 are two viable options in that category.

Cold-Blooded will keep you safe from the abundance of enemies who use Combat Scout, while Amped will have you switching between your heavy LMG and close-range SMG with ease.

The Throwing Knife and Stim equipment combination is currently the most popular set in Warzome thanks to the new Stim buff.

Xbox Series S/x: How To Get 120hz

To get to the page you need, you’ll need to open the Settings app.

This new power is why the console has to be so well ventilated! Source: Xbox

You can find this either in your “My Games and Apps” folder, in the apps category, or by opening the Guide and navigating to “Profile and System” and selecting “Settings”.

Once in settings, head to “TV and Display Options”, and from there you’ll be able to select your resolution.

You’ll also find a “Video Modes” option, which will let you select 120Hz but will only work if your TV supports HDMI 2.1.

In my case, my Series X is connected to an Ultrawide monitor with 144Hz refresh rate, but it can’t output anything higher than 60FPS because the monitor doesn’t support HDMI 2.1.

The bad news is that you’ll need a fairly new TV or monitor.

Here’s What You Need To Know About Xbox One’s Support For 120 Hz Refresh Rates

Over 70 new Xbox One games now support FPS Boost on Xbox ...

Xbox One

The May update for the Xbox One includes support for televisions with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Does this benefit game players? For a handful, maybe. For everyone else, no. At least not now. The move to support 120 Hz refresh rates looks like Xbox preparing for a future that could come as soon as next year.

‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ frame rate comparison.

Refresh rate and frame rate

A television or monitor draws a series of still images on the screen at a speed that tricks the human visual system into perceiving motion. A screens refresh rate refers to the number of images it draws each second. American TVs have refresh rates of 60 or 120 Hz meaning they draw either 60 or 120 images on the screen every second . A higher refresh rate produces smoother looking motion.

Game players are usually concerned with frame rate rather than refresh rate. Frame rate is the speed at which the video source the game in this case creates the images that will be displayed on the screen. Games with high and consistent frame rates are more immersive and respond more quickly and accurately to commands issued by the player through a controller, mouse or keyboard.

Problems arise when the frame rate and refresh rate are out of sync because the timing between when the game renders an image and when the screen displays it is disrupted. Frame rate is often capped at either 30 or 60 fps to avoid these problems.

‘Monster Hunter World”s uncapped frame rate never quite reaches 60 fps.

Does Xbox One S Stream 4k Netflix

Stream all the 4K things!

The Xbox One S All-Digital, like its disc-supporting cousin the Xbox One S, offers 4K playback for various media streaming apps to a compatible 4K display via HDMI. This includes apps like Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube, and Microsofts own Movies & TV digital purchasing service.

Is It Worth It

Epic Games

If youre playing on your living room TV on at 60hz screen, then it really wont matter if you switch the framerate.

Then again, you might be able to stay above 60 FPS consistently if you switch to this mode due to the drop in resolution, so it might just be worth activating just for that even if you cant actually get a true 120 FPS.

At the end of the day, itll come down to personal preference, but any pro player would say that getting the highest framerate possible is whats important.

How To Enable 120hz On Xbox Series X

There’s an additional step you need to take to unlock 120Hz Xbox Series X refresh rates.

The Xbox Series X is an absolute beast of a console, packed to the gills with new next-gen features. But while something like Quick Resume is ready to use right out of the box, one of the system’s best features isn’t enabled by default, and requires a bit of tinkering: specifically, enabling 120Hz for Xbox Series X|S games. Fortunately, the process is simpler than it sounds.

Best Warzone Sten Loadout Attachments

How to set XBOX ONE SERIES X to 120 FPS
  • Muzzle: Recoil Booster
  • Magazine: 9mm 50 Round Drums
  • Ammo Type: Incendiary
  • Proficiency: Sleight of Hand
  • Kit: Quick

Upon first use, the Sten may seem difficult to control but once you get the hang of its recoil pattern, youll enjoy the benefits of its excellent fire rate. For starters, well max out the fire rate by adding the SA 65mm Rapid barrel.

This weapon is definitely going to need some attachments that contribute to recoil control and accuracy. The Carver Foregrip, Polymer Grip, and Hockenson S33S Padded stock will make this weapon much easier to control.

Incendiary ammo and the Recoil Booster muzzle will make this a deadly weapon in close quarters as itll shred through enemies. We cant forget about ADS speed when it comes to SMGs and the SA 32S optic offers a nice boost in that regard.

The 9mm 50 Round Drums may seem excessive but theyre highly useful in Warzone when aiming to take down multiple enemies. The Sleight of Hand proficiency will make reloading the large magazine faster while Quick will improve your sprint speed.

Sea Of Thieves Gets New 120fps Performance Mode On Xbox Series X With New Season One

Sea of Thieves has just received a new patch to kick off the launch of the games first season, and the new bits are also introducing a new 120FPS Performance mode on Xbox Series X consoles. Until now, the pirate game ran in a comfortable 4K at 60FPS on the Series X, and opting for the 120 FPS Performance will reduce the resolution to 1080p, just like on the Xbox Series S.

“Some TVs do not support 120Hz and HDR simultaneously, so HDR may need to be disabled from the Console Settings, the developer noted in the release notes. If the Xbox Series S is also capable of running games at 120 FPS, the cheaper console is currently limited to running the pirate game at 1080p/60FPS, which remains good enough for most gamers.

If you have a TV or gaming monitor with a 120Hz refresh rate, playing games at 120 FPS can really make a difference, and it’s nice to see Sea of Thieves add this option on the Xbox Series X. Since the release of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S consoles in November, weve been seeing more and more cross-gen games add support for 120FPS, though this option is sometimes limited to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Borderlands 3, Destiny 2, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War are three other big games with a 120 FPS mode on the Series X thats currently absent on the Series S.

Xbox Series S Doesn
  • Muzzle: Mercury Silencer
  • Magazine: 5.6mm 45 Round Mags
  • Ammo Type: Lengthened
  • Perk: Brace
  • Perk: Fully Loaded

The Bren deals more damage than the Type 11, but the Type 11 has the Bren beat when it comes to ADS speed, movement speed, and strafe ability in 1 vs 1 gunfights.

Recoil control and aiming stability are vital for long-range weapons and the Warabuchi Type 33, Grooved Grip, andtheSakura 487mm Shrouded barrel make this weapon a laser beam. Distant targets will go down with ease thanks to the G16 2.5x optic.

The Brace proficiency will also increase accuracy and recoil control while Fully Loaded will set you up with enough ammo to tackle large squads. Rest assured, the 5.6mm 45 Round Mags will not leave you short on ammo and it is preferred over the 90 Round Mags due to the added recoil control.

The Mercury Silencer will further boost recoil control while Lengthened will increase bullet velocity which is a must for players who venture into Caldera. Finally, the m1941 Hand Stop is yet another attachment that will make this massive LMG easier to control in long-range battles.

Xbox One 120hz Support Explained

To take advantage of 120Hz, you’ll need an Xbox One X or Xbox One S running the Xbox May 2018 Update. This update is currently limited to a subset of users enrolled in the Xbox Insider Program, ahead of a wider release set for the coming weeks.

Your Xbox One must also be connected to a compatible TV or monitor, which supports refresh rates over 60Hz. High refresh rates must be supported over HDMI 2.0, due to limitations of the Xbox One hardware.

Constraints of HDMI 2.0 also means 120Hz support cannot be used in conjunction with 4K resolution. And bandwidth limitations mean 1440p or 1080p resolution must be used, cutting a few pixels for those extra frames.

Some games provide the option to disable V-Sync, allowing them to output at high frame rates.

But even with the feature, don’t expect system-wide improvements. Many Xbox One titles are developed with hardcoded frame-rate limits, set between 30Hz and 60Hz. While some games are developed with uncapped frame rates, expect many games to see no changes. We recommend researching your favorite titles for details on frame rate settings.

Because of this resolution drop, the feature isn’t recommended for people many with 4K displays. With few games offering 120Hz support on the console, the benefits are limited. But for 1440p or 1080p users, there are advantages.

Why Should You Make The Change To 120hz Xbox Series X Refresh Rates

Yes, playing at high refresh rates gives you a good advantage in gaming, but why 120Hz? The reason why 60fps has been the common choice for TVs is that most devices and games were designed for 60FPS. Now, weve entered the world of 120Hz displays which offer double the refresh rate and offer smoother images. On the Xbox X series, the difference between 60Hz and 120Hz is quite apparent.

Nevertheless, it is essential to note that not all Xbox series support this feature. Only the newly released models have this feature when taken out of the box. If not all, most games do allow you to enable 120FPS performance on booting up the first time. While 120Hz monitors are now becoming common, 60Hz ones remain the most commonly used ones. Before you buy a TV or monitor, make sure to check for its refresh rate. The refresh rate should be 120Hz or more, and at least one HDMI 2.1 port should be supported that allows 4K/120Hz signals.

How To Enable 4k 120 Fps On Xbox Series X

The latest entry to the Xbox family comes with quite a few high powered features that we did not get with the last generation consoles. With the HDMI 2.1 spec that the Xbox Series X comes with, the 40Gbps bandwidth of the port allows us to have 4k with a max frame rate of 120fps.

If you want to take advantage of this, then you will need to make sure the Xbox is configured to output this content. By default the Xbox will not output 120fps and depending on the TV you are using, the system may even be defaulting to 1080p, even if you have a 4kTV.

Setting up your TV for the Xbox Series X is something that you will likely spend some time doing. Even when the TV is perfect, you still need to make sure that the console is configured to output 100% of its potential. Here is how to achieve this.
