Move Closer To Your Router

Items like the walls, floor, furniture and other physical objects can get in the way of your wireless signal. Enhance your WiFi signal and improve your line of connectivity by moving your computer or console closer to your router.

If you find that you still experience lag, its deteriorated or theres no way you can move the router, try changing your gaming position. For example, placing your console at a different angle. You can also reduce signal interference from other household appliances like wireless speakers, microwaves and mobile chargers. This method is more time consuming than the first but If you want the VERY best DNS settings possible, this is what you need to do. If you get confused follow the above videos guidelines, yes it is about PS4 but the process is exactly the same for Xbox

All you need is a computer that is running on the same connection as your Xbox preferably with a wired connection that is running Internet Explorer/Google Chrome

  • Turn on your PC and navigate to this website which is Googles DNS Benchmark tool
  • Download and extract the namebench program which matches your operating system for Mac it will be the one at the top, for Windows the one directly below it namebench-1.3.1-Windows.exe
  • Remember for best results have your laptop/computer directly connected to the router via an ethernet cable as this helps eliminate any external factors that could interfere with your DNS settings to get the best results possible.
  • Make sure you tick the two options near the nameserver and have the health check performance as fast I recommend having the number of queries as 250 which will take longer but give you much stabler results

Ping is the most important statistic the less ping you have the better for internet speeds, 50ms ping is very good, less than 100 is good to average and 150 is when problems with games will start arising and more than 150 you could experience lag and have issues with games.

To check if you have a low bandwidth problem, consider disconnecting other devices from your router while youre playing. If the game works normally when playing online, it might mean that your network equipment or plan subscription may need an upgrade to address low bandwidth.

High Ping/latency On My Xbox One For No Reason

    Hi all,

Hoping I can get some support. For whatever reason, when I moved into my new place, i have high latency on my xbox. I have the second highest internet package you can buy from my isp. 600mps, and 25 upload. my download and upload test just fine, but my ping is between 70 ms and 90 ms. which is terrible. I was on a wireless connection for years and was excited to finally get a wired connection.

Things I have done. I have an open nat, I have a static IP, I have watched every youtube video and read every thing i could on the net, nothing helped. Hence why i am here. When i test my ping on my computer, or my phone, my latency is just fine. between 15-22 ms. I have tried multiple cat 5 cables. At first i thought this was a isp problem. I have spent hours on the phone with my isp, and had great people try to help me. They sent over new modems, they even sent over a technician to put a brand new line in my house, right from my xbox to the power pole, which is only about 30 feet away from my living room. My buddy is a software engineer, and I have been on xbox live gaming since year 1. I know how to set up my network for gaming, but I asked my buddy to come over and check it regardless. He said nothing is out of sorts. This is a huge problem for me as I cant enjoy games anymore, with my ping that bad, i went from being a top online player, to middle of the pack, because my latency is so bad.

any and all help will be appreciated.

    Use Skype For Voice Chat

Probably not the answer you were expecting but hear me out. The Xbox One has a Skype app and you can log in automatically using your Xbox Live account. The process is painless and very easy to get set up with. For some reason, voice chat over Skype is far more stable and clear. Without changing a single setting on my home network or Xbox, I was able to get perfectly clear audio with no latency and no echo, simply by using Skype.
