The next generation of travelers is increasingly likely to bring a video game console with them on their travels. Its estimated that 73% of Gen Z those who are born between 1995 and 2015 own a video game console, such as a Playstation 4, Xbox or Nintendo Switch. And, as Gen Z travelers begin to dominate the market, your front desk team is likely to get lots of calls from guests trying to connect their gaming system to the WiFi from their hotel room.
For those of us who are less technologically savvy, these calls can be stressful. Each type of console is different troubleshooting with a guest on the line is challenging and frustrating for everyone involved.
Were here to help get your guests set up to start playing on hotel internet, and also help you learn about different games for each system so you can provide recommendations and better connect with your guests. Well get into the specifics of each system in greater detail start here for an overview of connecting to Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, and XBox. When guests are seeking some advice about playing video games on your hotel WiFi, this is the guide for you.
Connect Through A Laptop
One user on Reddit had success connecting to WiFi through their laptop. Heres what they did:
Connect to WiFi on Laptop
Create an Ad Hoc Network on your laptop
Connect to newly created Ad Hoc network on your Switch
Enjoy your Switch with full internet access… albeit slightly slower due to the multiple connections.
Do not power off or close your laptop
Giving Your Xbox 360 Your Devices Mac Address
After disconnecting from the internet on your laptop , youll be ready to connect your Xbox 360.
If youre connecting via Ethernet, make sure to have a very long cable. Ethernet port locations can vary from hotel to hotel, so you never know how far from the TV it may be located. If youre using Wi-Fi, make sure to have the Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter, if yours is an older one that doesnt have it built-in.
To connect to the internet, youll need to:
- Go to your My Xbox channel.
- Scroll down and select System Settings.
- Scroll down again and click on Network Settings.
- Click Configure Network.
- Go to Additional Settings.
- Click Alternate MAC Address.
- Enter in the MAC address that you grabbed from your other device and enter it here.
- You should now be connected!
This video shows you the gist, only its for the old Xbox 360 interface, though, in the new look, everything is still in System Settings in My Xbox, so you shouldnt be too confused.

Hi you all right? dear friend, sometimes aocntece this because of conflict or ip nat restart would be interesting if the modem or home Router or cell phone to your xbox nat take place in hotels and rarely reniciam the internet and sometimes it is difficult to connect your xbox live or other peripheral in the network and the interesting chat with the staff of the hotels where you are staying and say that you are trying to connect in live 🙂

Hey gamers, I am having the same problem. I’ve brought my Xbox 1 along for my weeks stay at a hotel whose wifi is getting 15mbps and it won’t connect for nothing in this world. Now I am super bored, I just look at this $500 box and shake my head…..

Connecting Ps4 To Hotel Wifi
If you looking to connect your PS4 to the Hotel WiFi you are in luck. PS4s do support captive portals. However, the interface leaves a lot to be desired. Also, some hotels may struggle to display the captive portal correctly on the PS4. They are generally designed for use on laptops or phones, not gaming consoles.
In order to connect your PS4 to the hotels WiFi youll need to configure your wireless connection settings. This is relatively easy to do.

So Im staying at a hotel, connect to hotel WiFi and then need to accept the terms of use agreement. Except I cant scroll down on the page that pops up to do so… please help!

If there is a page that pops up that gives you the option to Accept, try and use the d-pad on the controller to scroll down or the right or left bumper to see if it will get you to the Accept option.
If that doesn’t work, the next process is a little tricky.
Bring up the web browser on your phone and access and accept the hotel wifi and complete the agreement.
Locate the Wi-Fi MAC Address on your phone in the Settings > About phone > Hardware info
Then on your Xbox, go to Settings > Network > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > Alternate MAC Address > Manual – enter your MAC Address from your phone here in the format xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx
After you enter that, it should ask to restart your Xbox.
Disable the wifi on your phone and then restart your Xbox.
You’re trying to make the Xbox appear on the network as your phone, since you accepted the agreement on your phone.
If it’s done correctly, the network will assume the Xbox is your phone based on the MAC address.
You can’t have the wifi active on your phone while the Xbox is active. The network won’t allow two devices with the same MAC address on the network at the same time.
What Do You Need To Get Your Switch Connected
If youre not familiar with the Nintendo Switch, check out this video to see how a Switch console is set up for the first time. Make sure your guest has all the components with them before trying to connect to your hotels WiFi.
Most gamers know to travel with these items, but make sure to double-check before you get started. You will need:

Troubleshooting An Xbox One Console That Wont Connect To Wifi
To fix your Xbox One wifi problem, try these solutions:
Can your Xbox One console detect other wifi or wireless networks? If yes, then youll have to focus your troubleshooting in your own wireless network.If your console cant see any other wireless networks, its possible that its wireless adapter may be damaged or not working. Its also possible that it has your Xbox One has a software glitch that causes wireless functionality to go haywire.
A complete power cycle may sometimes help in fixing console network troubles. To do that, make sure to unplug the power cable from the back of your modem or router for about 5 minutes. Afterwards, try restarting the console. To do that, just press and hold the Xbox button in the console for about 10 seconds. Once the console has powered down, press the Xbox button again to turn it back on. Alternatively, you can unplug the power cable from the back and wait for 10 seconds. S To Connect To Hotel Wifi
If you had a contactless check-in process at the hotel you may not have had a chance to ask the front desk about connecting your device to the in room entertainment system and WiFi. Like the other consoles weve covered, typically guests run into an issue when trying to accept the terms and login to your hotel WiFi network. As one expert explains, Hotel networks base their Wi-Fi leases on a devices MAC address, a unique 12-character code that is assigned to each and every device with a network interface. When you accept the terms and conditions on their landing page in their browser, the hotel keeps track of that MAC address, so it knows that you have gone through the authentication process.
That may sound like a big problem, but the process for connecting an Xbox to WiFi is actually pretty straightforward. Start by trying these steps:
Turn on the Xbox console.
Navigate to Settings and select Network
Go to the Set up wireless network option and select connect to a new network
Find the name of the hotel WiFi network and choose to connect
Enter the password of the network when requested.
The console will automatically connect as long as there are no errors in the password or other login information. It will let you know once the connection has been established.
Troubleshooting Xbox On Wifi
If the process listed above doesnt work, you may need to take a few extra steps. This process is to trick the hotel network into thinking the Xbox is a device that has been properly authenticated. Here are the steps one expert at Windows Central used to do this:
Choose a phone or other device, like a laptop, and find its MAC address. On a Windows phone, you can find the MAC address by going to Settings > System > About, then clicking the More Info button.
If its a tablet or PC, tell your guest to open a command prompt . hen type ipconfig /all and press Enter. Under the Wireless LAN Adapter, you want to use the Physical Address.
Connect to the hotels Wi-Fi and authenticate and/or accept terms through the web browser.
Disconnect the device from the network.
Tell your Xbox to act like your other device by mimicking its MAC address. On Xbox 360, go to System > Network Settings > Wireless Network > Configure Network > Additional Settings > Advanced Settings Alternate MAC Address.
On Xbox One, go to Settings > Network > Advanced Settings > Alternate MAC Address
Enter the MAC address of the device you previously connected with and save the settings. Once the changes are saved, you should be able to successfully run a network test to the internet.
