How To Set Up Your Xbox One Controller With Windows 10
Microsoft has made it very easy to use an Xbox controller on Windows 10. We show you how to connect it through USB or wirelessly.
Some computer games are best played with a controller. One of the best controllers you can buy is the Xbox One controller from Microsoft, which you can use with ease on Windows 10.
Whether you want to use a cable or go wireless, it’s incredibly simple to connect your controller and jump into a game. We’ll walk you through all the different ways that you can connect your Xbox One controller to your computer and how to configure it to your liking.
How To Pair Your Controller With An Xbox
To pair a new controller with your Xbox Series X or S, or an older Xbox One console , put two AA batteries or a rechargeable battery pack in the controller. Microsoft provides a set of disposable batteries in the box, but you can grab a play and charge kit for around $20.
Press the power button on the front to turn on your Xbox console. Locate and press the pairing button on your console on Xbox Series X and S, its the small round button next to the front USB ports, as shown below.
On an Xbox One X or S, the pairing button is on the front of the console, near the USB port on the right, as shown below.
On an original Xbox One, youll find the pairing button on the left of the console near the optical disc drive.
Now, press and hold the pairing button along the top edge of your controller, just above the battery compartment. You dont have to turn on the controller first. Press and hold the pair button until the Xbox logo on the controller starts to flash rapidly.
When the Xbox logo stops flashing and remains solid, your controller has been paired. If you encounter any issues, make sure your console was in pairing mode.
You should now be able to control the Xbox interface with your new controller.
Use The Wireless Adapter
To connect wirelessly, you’ll need an Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10. This may have come with your controller, but you can also buy it separately. Bear in mind that this is different to the adapter for the Xbox 360 controller, which won’t work for the Xbox One controller.
Take the Wireless Adapter and plug it into a USB port on your computer. You may need to use the included USB extender if the port is at the back of your computer or it doesn’t have a good line of sight to the controller.
Hold the Xbox button on your controller to turn it on. Now press the button on the adapter. Then press the bind button on your controller, located near the top. The LED on the controller will blink while it searches for a connection and will go solid once it’s established.

How To Connect An Xbox One Controller With A Cable

I have been using an Xbox 360 wireless controller for several years now, on my Windows 10 PC, and use a Wireless Receiver as shown below.
I have just bought an Xbox One wireless controller, and the wireless receiver I was using is not picking it up. I have no idea how to fix this. It picks up my Xbox 360 controller fine, but no luck with the Xbox One controller. For now I have been forced to use the controller wired, via a usb cable, but I don’t want to have to do this constantly as I prefer not having cables lying around, which was the reason I bought the wireless controller in the first place.
If anybody could help me out with this I’d really appreciate it.

Xbox One Controllers Connected With Bluetooth
The Xbox One controller works with macOS automatically when connected over Bluetooth via System Preferences. Only specific Xbox One controllers released after August 2016 have Bluetooth capability. See Microsoft’s support page for determining if your controller supports Bluetooth. Due to the fact that this controller works by default, it will not be supported by this driver. If you choose to plug this controller in via USB, you will need this driver. If you do not wish to connect the controller via USB, then you do not need this driver.
