How To Connect An Xbox Controller To A Pc Or Mobile Device Using Bluetooth
Certain generations of Xbox One controller have Bluetooth support, allowing it to connect to PC or mobile device as well as an Xbox One or Xbox Series controller.
You can tell at a glance by the look of the controller if the plastic around the Guide button is set within the face of the controller, it does not. If it is, then it does. Here’s an image from the official support website showing the difference:
The first generation Elite controllers also do not have Bluetooth. If your controller does not fall into the above example, then you should be good to go.
From there, it’s similar to how you would sync it to an Xbox device, thanks to the dedicated Sync button on the controller, which is located at the ‘top’ of the device, between the triggers, and next to the USB port.
Press and hold the button until the glowing Xbox guide button starts to blink, indicating it is syncing.
Now on your device, go to your Bluetooth settings, and search for add for a new device. This varies according to the platform – for example on iOS, it can be easier to turn Bluetooth off then on to ‘force’ it to look for new devices, while on Windows, there is a dedicated ‘Add a device’ helper.
The Xbox controller should be then listed according to the device in question. Select it, and it should connect, as indicated by a solid glow on the Xbox controller.
How To Connect Xbox One Controller To Xbox Series X
It’s surprisingly easy to connect an older Xbox One controller to the newer Xbox Series X and S systems.
If you just got a new Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, you might be in a rush to go out and buy more controllers for it. After all, game systems have almost all only come with one controller dating back to the Sega Genesis. However, even though the Series X|S follows suit, the Xbox One controller is fully compatible with both systems. You can use it not only for playing Xbox One games on the newer consoles, but also all Xbox Series X|S games, which is different from how the PS5 supports DualShock 4 controllers.

How To Connect Multiple Controllers To An Xbox 360
Up to 4 controllers in total can be connected to the Xbox 360 console. Some games allow you and three others to play at the same time, either against each other or in cooperative mode. For games that use instrument controllers, the connection process will essentially be the same as it is for standard wireless controllers.
- Xbox 360 Console
- Multiple Controllers
Insert batteries into the wireless controllers. Press the release button on the back of the controller, pull open the battery case and insert two AA batteries.
Turn on the wireless controller. To do this, press the large round button in the center of the controller and hold it down until the button lights up.
Turn on the Xbox 360 console. Next to the slot marked “Memory Unit B” is a small round button with a symbol that looks like 3 parentheses in a row. Press and release this button.
Press and release the button on the controller that has the same parentheses symbol next to it. It is located on the top edge of the controller, between the buttons marked “LB” and “RB.”
Watch for the controller and the console to light up. Repeat the process for up to four controllers in total .
Plug the USB end of the wired controller into either of the two front ports. The ports are located behind a small door on the bottom of the console, near the power button.
Verify that the controller is working. If it is not, find the in-line release on the controller’s cable and check that it is correctly connected.
If Your Controller Isnt Connecting Check For Interference
If youve exhausted every other option such as checking for dead batteries and youre still having trouble connecting your Xbox One controllers, its time to troubleshoot other possibilities. One of the most common contenders for this is interference in your play area, whether from other electronics, walls, or something unexpected, like radio or microwave interference.
The first step is to check that youre close enough to your Xbox One. This matters because your controller can only reach between 19 and 28 feet away. If you try to play from a much longer distance, you are more likely to have problems with your connection.
After that, make sure to note any barriers that might be blocking your controllers connection. Some of these obstacles might include walls, furniture, or even additional accessories you have plugged into your Xbox One. You should try to remove as many barriers as possible because having things in the way can worsen your signal.
Make sure you remove any metal items from your controller and console. Items like these can damage your signal. The last tip to remember: Turn your console off and on again for a clean slate. If you try all of this and youre still having connectivity problems, you should take a look at Microsofts support website for more tips or consider purchasing a new controller.
We hope this guide was helpful and that youre ready to check out all the best Xbox One games available.

Connecting To Xbox Or Another Device At Startup
When you press and hold the Xbox button on your controller, your console will turn on automatically. But what if you want to use the controller with another device without turning on your console first?
You can do this by holding the sync button for around two seconds. The controller should turn on, search for the last known device, and connect to itall without turning on your Xbox. If you double-tap the sync button to revert to Xbox mode while the console is off, the console will automatically start.
Remember: If you want to connect to a new device , press and hold the sync button until the Xbox light flashes indefinitely to skip automatic pairing.
If You Have Bluetooth And The Newest Xbox One Wireless Controller
In the perfect scenario, you have a laptop and an Xbox wireless controller which both have Bluetooth, and so all you need to do is to pair them. Open up Windows 10’s start menu and find ‘Settings’.
- Select ‘Bluetooth and other devices’
- Select ‘Bluetooth’
At this point, your laptop or desktop will start searching the nearby area for available Bluetooth devices in pairing mode. So power on your Xbox controller and put it into pairing mode.
- Press and hold the ‘X’ home button for a couple of seconds until it lights up
- Press and hold the small pairing button on the top edge
- Your ‘X’ home button should start flashing on and off
With your Xbox controller light blinking, that means it’s in pairing mode and it should show up in that list of available devices on your Windows 10 PC. Simply click on the Xbox wireless controller in that devices list, and within a second or two it’ll be connected and the light on behind the ‘X’ will be solid.
