Microsofts Xbox One allows you to easily capture a screenshot or record the last thirty seconds of gameplay as a video. You can also use the Game DVR app for more fine-grained recording options. All video clips are saved in 720p resolution at 30 frames per second.

Theres one catch: you cant copy your captured screenshots or videos directly to a USB drive. The best way to get them to your computer is to upload them to OneDrive. But well show you how to do that near the end of this guide.

Press The View Button To Capture Gameplay

The small circular key located above the D-pad on your Xbox controller is called the View button. Pressing it while in the guide screen will provide you with more options for capturing footage and taking screenshots. Record Longer Gameplay Clips

According to Xbox support, you can record up to 10 minutes of gameplay at a time on the Xbox Ones internal storage, depending on the resolution of the footage and the amount of space available on your hard drive. By connecting an external hard drive, you can extend the amount of time you can continuously record by up to an hour.

To change the location of where your clips are saved or to change the resolution its recorded at, go the guide and select Capture & Share. Then, scroll down to Capture Settings. Youll be given a few options in the column entitled Capture. At the very bottom is where you can select to change the capture locations. This menu has more detailed settings listed on the screen, including several different resolution options .

On the Xbox One X, we were able to record for as long as five minutes by selecting a 720p resolution instead of the default 1080p, which has a cap of two minutes. This screen also lets you capture at 4K in HDR, but the reduced clip length allowed in this resolution makes it a less-than-ideal option for sharing your gameplay.

Delete Older Game Clips

Maybe there are way too many game clips save in your cloud storage account. If youre running out of storage space, you usually get one of these two alerts:

• Manage captures. This means youve only got 10% of your allotted storage space left. If your Xbox Live storage is filling up, delete some of your clips.
• Delete some of your captures. This alert indicates youve effectively run out of storage. The only option is to free up some space.

To view your capture immediately after saving, hold down the Xbox button when the blue notification confirms your recording has saved. From this overlay, you can view your new clip, upload it to Xbox Live or Microsoft OneDrive , delete the clip, or go to manage all of your saved gameplay. Selecting Edit will send you over to Microsofts free Upload Studio app or to its entry in the store if you dont have it downloaded.
