Microsofts Xbox One allows you to easily capture a screenshot or record the last thirty seconds of gameplay as a video. You can also use the Game DVR app for more fine-grained recording options. All video clips are saved in 720p resolution at 30 frames per second.
Theres one catch: you cant copy your captured screenshots or videos directly to a USB drive. The best way to get them to your computer is to upload them to OneDrive. But well show you how to do that near the end of this guide.
Press The View Button To Capture Gameplay
The small circular key located above the D-pad on your Xbox controller is called the View button. Pressing it while in the guide screen will provide you with more options for capturing footage and taking screenshots. These options include recording upcoming gameplay and saving a clip of a different length from the buffer.
Selecting Record From Now will start a capture that you can manually end by first pressing the Xbox button and then X.
How To Set Video Clip Resolution On Your Xbox One
While taking videos is essential, you also need to think on space it is going to consume on drive as well as time taken to share on social media. So sometimes it will be essential to lower down the resolution of captures specially for sharing on social media like Twitter, where it does not support 4K screenshots. To set your clip resolution and capture location, press the Xbox button to open the guide, then go to Broadcast & capture > Advanced settings.Tip : You can check the upload status of clips from the Manage clips page by selecting Upload Status from the filter.

Record Longer Gameplay Clips
According to Xbox support, you can record up to 10 minutes of gameplay at a time on the Xbox Ones internal storage, depending on the resolution of the footage and the amount of space available on your hard drive. By connecting an external hard drive, you can extend the amount of time you can continuously record by up to an hour.
To change the location of where your clips are saved or to change the resolution its recorded at, go the guide and select Capture & Share. Then, scroll down to Capture Settings. Youll be given a few options in the column entitled Capture. At the very bottom is where you can select to change the capture locations. This menu has more detailed settings listed on the screen, including several different resolution options .
On the Xbox One X, we were able to record for as long as five minutes by selecting a 720p resolution instead of the default 1080p, which has a cap of two minutes. This screen also lets you capture at 4K in HDR, but the reduced clip length allowed in this resolution makes it a less-than-ideal option for sharing your gameplay.

Otterbox Mobile Gaming Clip Review: What’s Good
This clip is effortless to install. I just slip it over the Xbox One controller and make sure the plastic on either side goes into the controller’s ports. Then when I want to remove it, I just pull up on the tab on the bottom of the controller and slip it off. While installed, it is very sturdy. I shook the controller around violently just to see what would happen, and both the clip and my phone remained in place.
The arm locks into place but can extend higher or lower, allowing me to get it at the perfect distance from my face. I’m also able to tilt the top of the arm so that the screen is displayed at varying degrees. This made playing games incredibly comfortable and felt natural. Once I had connected my iPhone to the Xbox One controller, I was set to play any mobile game with controller support.
I love that the clip can fold up into such a compact shape. The plastic feels very durable, so I can throw it into my travel bags, purse, or pocket and not worry about it getting damaged. The actual area where the phone is held extends a couple of inches, and there are two prongs above the phone and one below to hold most iPhones and Android phones in place. These prongs manage to do this without getting in the way of the screen. There’s also a textured grip here that prevents phones from sliding around. It all works together to make a very sturdy accessory.
Otterbox Mobile Gaming Clip Review: Competition
The best iPhone mounting clips for controllers come in a variety of sizes. Some are specifically made for specific controllers, while others are more versatile. If you don’t have a controller yet, you should get the Rotor Riot Gamepad. It’s both a controller and a clip in one, and it’s MFi certified.
If you’re simply looking for an inexpensive gaming clip for PS4 DualShock Controllers, then the OIVO Controller Phone Clip Mount is a perfect choice. It’s easy to install and works with most iPhones.
If you’re more interested in a controller that connects to the iPhone itself, I highly recommend checking out the Razer Kishi for iPhone. It comes with various inserts allowing it to work with most iPhones, and the button layout looks and feels intuitive. In some ways, it’s like it transforms your phone into a Nintendo Switch.

Delete Older Game Clips
Maybe there are way too many game clips save in your cloud storage account. If youre running out of storage space, you usually get one of these two alerts:
- Manage captures. This means youve only got 10% of your allotted storage space left. If your Xbox Live storage is filling up, delete some of your clips.
- Delete some of your captures. This alert indicates youve effectively run out of storage. The only option is to free up some space.
In rare cases, you may not get these alerts. Delete old clips and make sure youve got enough cloud storage space for your new game clips.

Xbox Series X/s Share Button
If taking loads of screenshots while playing games is your jam, you’ll be pleased to know that the Xbox Series X or S allows you to capture screenshots and record gameplay with the touch of a shiny new button.
For the first time, Xbox controllers have a dedicated that will allow you to record and upload videos and screens with ease. It sits in the middle of the controller, just below where you can find the menu button, so it’s pretty obvious to spot.
If you’ve been both an Xbox and Playstation owner up to this point, you will be familiar with the press/ hold function of the Share button on the PS4 controller to capture images and video. This new Share button works in a similar way, but for the uninitiated, this is how you go about taking a screenshot and recording video on the Xbox Series X/S controller.
