To Address The Question Do Pcs Need Much More Ram
Not necessarily, one could build a machine with a light-weight Linux kernel, light-weight X and perhaps wine as well as a result you’ll end up with barely any space taken by the Linux kernel and most space available to the game, then, you get the hardware with the same memory limits as the console, turn down the game graphics and actually have PS3 / XBOX 360 like graphics. I have no clue whether the Wii specs could be achieved, but most games on the Wii aren’t available for computer architectures anyway .
The PC itself doesn’t impose more memory, it’s what the environment your game runs in does.
There are several reason for this:
New Games No Hardware
Say you dont own an Xbox or a gaming PC, but you do have an Android phone. Does Microsoft have any next-gen gaming options for you? Thanks to game streaming, it does. On September 15th, Microsoft added game streaming to Xbox Games Pass Ultimate, which costs $14.99 a month. The feature, which was known previously as xCloud, could give you a way to play many of the biggest Xbox Series X games without having to own any gaming hardware at all. You can stream them to a device as simple as an Android phone, for example .
Game streaming isnt an entirely new idea Sony launched its PlayStation Now service way back in 2014 to a muted response but Microsoft is taking a much more interesting approach. Rather than focusing on older titles, as Sony did with PlayStation Now, Microsoft says its new games will be available to stream the day they release and lists recent first-party titles like Forza Horizon 4, Gears of War 5, Tell Me Why, The Outer Worlds, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps as being among the 150-plus games available to stream at launch.
Microsoft promises to let you stream major Xbox games straight to your phone.

New Games Old Hardware
Microsoft has said you wont have to buy new hardware to enjoy its upcoming first-party titles because many of them will also come to Xbox One. Heres how Xbox chief Phil Spencer described the companys approach back in July, where he said that every Xbox Game Studios game in the next couple of years will be playable on the Xbox One.
You wont be forced into the next generation. We want every Xbox player to play all the new games from Xbox Game Studios. Thats why Xbox Game Studios titles we release in the next couple of yearslike Halo Infinitewill be available and play great on Xbox Series X and Xbox One. We wont force you to upgrade to Xbox Series X at launch to play Xbox exclusives.
And if youre more of a PC gamer and dont own an Xbox One, then Microsoft also typically releases its major titles there as well, and it says it plans to continue this policy this year.
Microsoft has promised to bring Halo Infinite to PC and Xbox One as well as its new Xbox consoles.
There are some caveats you should be aware of. First is that these promises only cover Microsofts first-party titles, aka those published by Xbox Game Studios. Microsoft isnt making any promises about how other publishers like EA, Ubisoft, or Activision will handle their new games.

Special Edition Blue Bundle
- Main article: Xbox 360 E Special Edition Blue Bundle
Approximately one year after the release of the standard Xbox 360 E, a Special Edition Blue Bundle was released. This was the only alternate variant of the Xbox 360 E that was released and the very last Xbox 360 model to be produced.
Approximately 10000 and 50000 models of this variant were made. The bundle included a Special Edition Blue console, which included a 500GB hard drive which was the most storage available in any Xbox 360 model. A standard 500GB Xbox 360 E was eventually released not long after the Blue console. A matching controller, copies of , and one month of Xbox Live Gold were also included in the bundle.

How Much Ram Will Ps5 And Xbox Series X Have You’ll Need That
When thinking about upgrading RAM, you should also keep in mind the context of the upcoming launch of the 9-generation consoles. It may seem that the release of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will not have a significant impact on the PC, but that’s not true.
Currently, PS4 and Xbox One not only have just 8 GB of RAM the memory is shared with the graphics-processing unit. Another interesting fact about RAM in consoles is that PS4 uses GDDR5 memory, while Xbox One is stuck with DDR3 supported by a fast, 32-megabyte eSRAM interface. That’s not a lot when we compare it with a typical gaming PC, which, in addition to 8-16 GB of RAM, usually has a graphics card with at least 4 GB of video memory.
Consoles don’t use memory the way PCs do, but the RAM installed on the base models of PS4 and Xbox One is undoubtedly one of the limiting factors for the developers. Microsoft’s upgraded console, Xbox One X, has 12 gigabytes of RAM, and the next-generation devices will have even more. We already know that Xbox Series X will come with 16 GB of GDDR6 on board, and you can expect the same with PlayStation 5 .
What does this mean for PC owners? Why, increasing hardware requirements for games, of course. Virtual worlds will become even bigger and more impressive, but it will take more to lift them, also RAM. 16 GB will soon be the absolute minimum, without which comfortable playing won’t be possible. Then if you will require solid 60fps in high resolutions, 32GB might be necessary.

How Much Ram Do I Need To Play Games On Pc
Unfortunately, the answer to this question isnt cut and dry. Wouldnt it be so much easier if it was?
When it comes to RAM, adding more of it wont necessarily increase the speed of your games. Its all about capacity, not speed. Ensuring you have a large capacity of RAM will of course allow it to store more data and that will make your PC run smoother.
Often when it comes to how much RAM you need to play a specific game there will be a requirement and a recommended amount. Heres some of the biggest titles released on PC and what their requirements are:
- Dying Light: 4GB minimum / 8GB recommended
- Grand Theft Auto V: 4GB minimum / 8GB recommended
- The Witcher 3: 6GB minimum / 8GB recommended
- Fallout 4: 8GB minimum & recommended
- Batman: Arkham Knight: 6GB minimum / 8GB recommended / 12GB required for smooth gameplay on Windows 10
- Rise of the Tomb Raider: 6GB minimum / 8GB recommended
- Far Cry Primal: 4GB minimum / 8GB recommended
- The Division: 6GB minimum / 8GB recommended
Hopefully, thats helped shed some light on the RAM requirements for games. Modern PC games generally want at least 8GB of memory. Sure, some games ask for less, but 8GB is predominantly becoming the standard minimum.
This isnt necessarily commonplace and usually occurs when the game has been poorly coded or wasnt designed for the PC platform. Instead, a larger amount of RAM is required to make up for the poor coding of the game on PCs.
Memory And System Bandwidth
The console features 512 MB of GDDR3RAM clocked at 700 MHz with an effective transmission rate of 1.4 GHz on a 128-bit bus. The memory is shared by the CPU and the GPU via the unified memory architecture. This memory is produced by either Samsung or Qimonda.
According to of Epic Games, Microsoft had originally planned on using only 256 MB of RAM, but the decision to increase it was based on Epic’s upcoming Gears of War title. Epic had been arguing for Microsoft to increase the memory for some time, and Tim Sweeney had sent Microsoft screenshots of what Gears would look like at 256 MB, and then at their proposed 512 MB. Shortly thereafter, Epic was the first studio told of new 512 MB size specification and claimed it cost them a billion dollars but felt it was better for gamers.
The Xbox 360 has an extensive amount of bandwidth in comparison to its competition however, this statistic includes the eDRAM logic to memory bandwidth, and not internal CPU bandwidths. The eDRAM internal logic to its internal memory bandwidth is 256 GB/s. The high bandwidth is used primarily for z-buffering, alpha blending, and antialiasing it saves time and space on the GPU die. Between the eDRAM die and the GPU, data is transferred at 32 GB/s. The memory interface bus has a bandwidth of 22.40 GB/s and the Southbridge a bandwidth of 0.5 GB/s.

Why Fast Storage Changes Everything
The specs on this page represent only the tiniest fraction of the potential of the storage solution Microsoft has engineered for the next generation. In last year’s Project Scarlett E3 teaser, Jason Ronald – partner director of project management at Xbox – described how the SSD could be used as ‘virtual memory’, a teaser of sorts that only begins to hint at the functionality Microsoft has built into its system.
On the hardware level, the custom NVMe drive is very, very different to any other kind of SSD you’ve seen before. It’s shorter, for starters, presenting more like a memory card of old. It’s also rather heavy, likely down to the solid metal construction that acts as a heat sink that was to handle silicon that consumes 3.8 watts of power. Many PC SSDs ‘fade’ in performance terms as they heat up – and similar to the CPU and GPU clocks, this simply wasn’t acceptable to Microsoft, who believe that consistent performance across the board is a must for the design of their consoles.
“Our second component is a high-speed hardware decompression block that can deliver over 6GB/s,” reveals Andrew Goossen. “This is a dedicated silicon block that offloads decompression work from the CPU and is matched to the SSD so that decompression is never a bottleneck. The decompression hardware supports Zlib for general data and a new compression called BCPack that is tailored to the GPU textures that typically comprise the vast majority of a game’s package size.”

Does Xbox 360 Need Memory Card
Xbox 360 was first released in 2007 and it was replaced in 2013 by the Xbox One. Although it has been out of date, some people still like to use it and it offers literally hundreds of games to users. A user reports that he always gets a pop-up message related to memory unit.
I bought a new slim for 10 bucks. Everytime I start a game it asks me if I want to save games on my hard drive or memory unit. What is that? I don’t have anything in the USB ports. — www.reddit.com
What is memory unit? It’s Xbox 360 memory card. When the 360 came out, there wasn’t USB Flash Drive support. Back then there were proprietary memory cards that you could buy for the console.
The Xbox 360 memory card worked the same as a USB flash drive, but had very limited storage capacity by modern standards. With a memory card, you can save numerous game and system features, such as in-game achievements and gamer profiles.
At that time, some people might have to buy an Xbox 360 memory card. But in 2010, the company changed its policy and rolled out a system update that allows any USB memory device to be used for storage. Therefore, nowadays, people don’t need to buy proprietary Xbox 360 memory cards.
Xbox Game Pass Comparison
Suffice it to say, if you dont have the cash to make a big upfront purchase, then Microsoft still wants to get you on board for its next generation of consoles. You wont own any of the games you can play , but thats the trade-off you make.
Microsofts plans for the next generation of gaming are sprawling. Two consoles that are available via subscription and can play a huge chunk of your existing Xbox games, a new roster of games that will be playable on your existing Xbox One, a continuing focus on PC gaming, and a game streaming service mean that, no matter what hardware you own, theres a decent chance youll be able to pay Microsoft to play its games.
Weve written before about how the focus on trying to sell subscriptions rather than premium hardware means that the true next-gen Xbox is the subscription itself, rather than the hardware it plays on. Microsoft is casting its net wide, and it doesnt want any hardware requirements to get in the way of you subscribing.
Sony, meanwhile, is doing what its always done: its making a new console, developing exclusive games for it, and selling it. Its hard to argue too much with the approach when its done so well for the company so far, especially with the PS4.
Update November 12th, 1:30PM ET: Added hands on impressions now that the Xbox Series S and Series X have launched.
