How Much Better is the Xbox One S Than the Original Xbox One?

Some of the biggest titles are usually partnered with a new console. This year’s instalments include FIFA 21, Fortnite, Rainbow SixSiege and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

We know that Microsoft has teamed up with EA to bring over 60 of EA’s biggest games to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which gives you access to 100+ games stored in the cloud.

Halo Infinite would likely have been the most-wanted launch title, and the most popular bundle, but 343 Industries, the studio in charge of the game, announced that it’s delayed until November 2021. Which could make the perfect Christmas present for the gamer in your life…

Rarest And Most Valuable Xbox Consoles Ever Made

| Entertainment

The original Xbox made its debut in 2001 and for the past 20 years has become one of the most popular video game consoles in the world. So far, five different lines of the Xbox console have been released. Of course, special/limited edition versions of each generation of the Xbox have come out. For the most part, the rarest Xbox consoles were gifts to employees or special prizes for various giveaways. This list features some of the rarest Xbox consoles from any generation. These Xbox consoles are incredibly difficult to find today and hardly ever come up for sale.

As of July 2021, the information on this list is accurate as possible and will be updated as needed.

Def Jam: Fight For Ny

EA’s hip-hop inspired Def Jam series surprised quite a few people with its solid combat and fantastic soundtrack. What’s more, being able to duke it out with some of the biggest names in the rap game was also quite the treat. With that in mind, it’s easy to see why Def Jam: Fight For NY is such a desirable game.

The disc alone can sell for almost $50, while a complete version of the game tends to average a little over $80. As the years continue to pass and more and more copies fall into the hands of collectors though, these prices are only going to rise.

Pelican Accessories Scope Light Rifle/blaster For Xbox

If you thought the SNES Super Scope was awkward and bulky, try this monstrosity on for size. This large rifle/blaster, designed for Silent Scope on the Xbox, seems to sport the dimensions and shape of a real sniper rifle – even coming with a scope attached to the top. Yet, its cheap plastic design and neon-green color scheme make it resemble an oversized Nerf gun.

Still, it’s more elaborate than it might appear – you can even detach the top portion of the gun, quickly turning it into a smaller shotgun. Even on Amazon and eBay, these are pretty rare finds, and aren’t particularly cheap for a plastic peripheral.

The True Cost Of The Xbox Series X: $960/896

The Rarest Original Xbox Games (& What They Sell For)

With the above taken into account, getting the most out of the Xbox Series X is going to cost you $960/£896. Thats a fair bit for a dedicated gaming machine, but its still quite the bargain.

To get equivalent 4K performance from a gaming PC, youll need to spend some $1,500, though we appreciate that gives you a far larger library of games to choose from. But in comparison to what we believe to be the true price of the PS5, the Xbox Series X is the winner given its that bit cheaper with all its extras added into the mix. Though for the performance they deliver, both consoles still offer impressive value for money.

However, getting hold of an Xbox Series X is very difficult at the moment. So if you can hold off until 2021, you might be able to get yourself a well-priced Series X bundle, and youll have more games to tap into on Game Pass – hopefully in the form of Xbox Series X exclusives. After all, 2021 is looking like the year that these new games consoles come into their own.

Prices Rise And Hold For The Xbox

Steel Battalion

So right now, the most expensive games on the Xbox are even more expensive. Thanks to our friends at GameValueNow and their price graphs, we can see the average price of an Xbox game rising from the start of the pandemic.

Prices on the average complete Xbox game were at around $7 for almost three years without any solid movement. March 2020 hits, and boom, that $7 turns into almost $12. And thats just movement for the average game. Thats not showing the increases for the higher dollar and rare games for the system.

In some cases, the price is skyrocketing still, in others prices are fairly stable, and in some like Steel Battalion and its huge box, the prices swing pretty wildly.

Looking at the top around eight games that I would call rare. Steel Battalion and the controller doesnt really count. But games like Futurama, Stubbs the Zombie, Teen Titans, Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly, Def Jam: Fight for NY, and OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast have all broken their trends. There are other games like Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis that have actually gone down in price, but I think thats people realizing that you can play that game and have a great experience with it, elsewhere.

Why I’m Buying The Original Xbox In 2021

There have been a plethora of arcade sticks released for the Xbox line over the years which isn’t too surprising given its healthy lineup of fighters.

But one of the rarest among them is known as the Radica Arcade Stick, released for the first Xbox, standing as yet another collector’s item that dates back to the early 2000s. This thing was designed mainly for the Dead or Alive series, but is compatible for a number of fighting games. Aside from its smaller size and somewhat cheap feel, it makes for a pretty solid, durable piece of hardware especially for its price of $50-$80.

An Xbox Console Retrospective

Before the original Xbox was released in 2001, many doubted Microsoft’s chances to compete in the video game console business. Up until that point, the company had been primarily a PC software vendor, and there hadn’t been room for four major consoles. It also had to compete against the PlayStation 2 and GameCube at the time. Despite the initial stiff competition and several pitfalls along the way, the Xbox brand has made significant strides over the past 15 years to become a household name in the hardware world and a significant pillar of Microsoft’s business. It has since sold well over 100 million consoles.

Let’s take a walk down memory lane as we chronologically look back at all of Microsoft’s consoles, hardware redesigns, and major peripherals.

The Rarest Original Xbox Games

Over a decade since the original Xbox was discontinued some of the consoles rarer games are becoming quite valuable heres how much theyre worth.

What are the rarest original Xbox games and how much money are they worth? Released in 2001, Microsofts original Xbox marked the computing giants first attempt at breaking into the gaming console market. Although it was criticized for its clunky size, the first-ever iteration of the Xbox boasted several then-groundbreaking features like a built-in hard drive and with the launch of Xbox Live in 2002 the first real online multiplayer network.

The original Xbox sold 24 million units worldwide, outselling the likes of Nintendos GameCube and the Sega Dreamcast. However, it couldnt outdo Sonys PlayStation 2 which sold over 155 million units in its lifespan and ranked as the best-selling sixth-generation console. The original Xbox also found it hard to break non-Western console markets, particularly in Japan where it experienced pretty low sales. Microsoft released the consoles successor the Xbox 360 in 2005 and four years later the original Xbox was officially discontinued.

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider Xbox One X

Taking its place as not only one of the rarest Xbox items, but perhaps one of the sleekest looking custom consoles, this machine stands at “holy grail” status. As you’d imagine by the elaborate, chiseled detail of this thing, extremely limited quantities were made, as part of a special event in which Square Enix sold it at an auction for charity.

It ended up selling for over $8,000, making it more of a precious gaming gem than an accessory. Lara Croft would have to do some deep, expansive tomb raiding indeed to find this sort of treasure.

Which Original Xbox Games Do You Most Want To See On The ...

In the more archaic online gaming days of the early 2000’s, there weren’t exactly a ton of sophisticated options when it came to voice chat.

This strange gadget from Nyko proved to be at least sufficient in allowing for a crude form of chatting with friends on Xbox Live, but paled in comparison to the official option. The thing worked more like a cumbersome walkie-talkie than a nuanced microphone, as you had to hold a button when speaking. Given the rarity of Microsoft’s own original Xbox mic, you could imagine how hard it is to get your hands on this obscure, short-lived piece of equipment.

What About Limited Edition Xbox Consoles

The stats providedabove purely for the standard original Xbox. However, Microsoft did release acouple of special edition Xbox consoles back in the day, and the prices onthose consoles can differ significantly from the launch unit.

One of the most notable and widely-available limited edition Xbox consoles out there is the Halo Limited Edition Xbox combo. As the original Xboxs flagship franchise, Halo shipped as a pack in-game alongside the special edition translucent green console. The system starts at $230 from third-party sellers on Amazon and around $130 used on eBay.

The neon-green Mountain Dew Limited Edition Xbox was only made available as part of a sweepstakes in 2004. Only 5000 units were given away to lucky winners, but collectors are still looking to buy the system today. On eBay, these consoles start for around $300, and sellers are getting as much $950 for them in the right condition.

Xbox Game Pass: $100 /96

How Much Will The XBox Series X Cost?

Xbox Game Pass offers you access to more than 100 Xbox games, from modern Xbox One titles to classics from the original Xbox. And it now offers access to a suite of Electronic Arts games by bundling in an EA Play membership, all for a monthly fee of $9.99/£7.99. This is one of gaming’s best bargains. It will also get better as all future first-party Xbox games will be made available on Game Pass from the day of their release. With Microsoft buying Bethesda, you can also expect a suite of games from its studios to get added to the service.

Game Pass is basically the killer app for the Xbox Series X and one wed deem essential. However, that means you need to part with some $100/£96 per year for the standard Xbox Game Pass subscription. Opt for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which throws in PC games and game streaming to Android phones, and youll need to part with $14.99/£10.99 per month its a superb bargain, but still adds to the overall cost of owning an Xbox Series X.

Steel Battalion Complete Set

Former Xbox boss regrets trying to sell consoles in Japan ...

This beast of a peripheral is more of an elaborate flight simulator rather than a straight-up video game. Its massive, detailed nature, relative obscurity, and novelty has made it a favorite among Xbox collectors.

If you’ve ever wondered what it felt like to pilot a massive mech, Steel Battalion for the original Xbox is likely about as close as you’ll get. The game comes with 3 bulking panels which are littered with dozens of buttons, knobs, and joysticks that each serve their own purpose. There’s even a group of pedals to further emulate the experience. Needless to say, this isn’t the most user-friendly game. Even upon its release, these beasts weren’t easy to get ahold of, and cost nearly as much as a gaming console.

Everything New Is Old Again

Given the four years between the release of the first Xbox and the arrival of its successor, its no surprise that after six years rumors began circulating in March 2011 that the 360 was on its way out and Microsoft was already hard at work on its next console. The first set of reports surfaced on LinkedIn, where several designers and developers added vague descriptions of a mysterious new project they were working on with Microsoft. There was no stopping the Internet rumor train once it started chugging along, and before long the new console even had an unofficial code name: Xbox 720.

Even with the next-generation rumors, sales of the 360 continued to assert Microsofts powerful position in the console gaming industry, and by September 2012 the company announced that it had hit the 70-million mark in units sold, and by December that number had jumped to 75 million. Although the sales of the 360 trailed behind Nintendos Wii, which sold close to 100 million, it outsold the Ps3 by around 5 million. This news was followed a month later by the debut of Xbox Music and Xbox Video, Microsofts new media services that not only replaced the existing services on the Xbox but also offered an attractive, Apple-style integration across all devices running Windows software.
